The show or…

It was too sitcom-y while not taking enough advantage of the fact it's a cartoon and they can do whatever they want. It felt too much like a real show. Which is a problem with a lot of 'adult' cartoons nowadays. They're either like this or like Family Guy. Either childish or just boring. It feels the same as shows like Californication, but at least Californication was moderately interesting and funny. The humor in this is mainly just half-baked jokes about the fact they're animals.

It also has a pseudo-deep, pretentious conversation between characters like twice an episode. That gets fucking old, especially when it doesn't lead to them developing. They're still pathetic pieces of shit.

That and it's just too fucking Hollywood. Yes, I understand that that's the point- it's a deconstruction of what it means to be a star- but Hollywood culture is absolutely cancerous and, worse, UNINTERESTING.

Seriously, the only people who care about the lives of the rich and famous are a demographic who wouldn't watch this show in the first place.

Then they brought on the guest-written guest stars. Isn't it just wonderful when a show does that?

Well, Hollywoo is a weird place and you have to play the game sometimes.

Back in the 90's he was in a very famous TV show.

Literally the only reason it has animal people is so they a gimmick in their pitch.

"This show is about a washed-up celebrity, but he's a horse! Isn't that so wacky everybody?"

From his birth.

That's precisely the point too. They are showing empty, vapid and weak people who have constructed an entire structure of pretense and pretentiousness all around themselves. If I recall literally the second episode of the entire series is about how Bojack didn't respect dibs on a guy's muffins in a store. That's it. And they spend the WHOLE episode, days in the show's time, doing nothing but talking about nothing else. Absolutely nothing else.
And I mean, shit, in the second season one of the biggest deals of the entire country is a show that is titled "hollywoo star, what do they know, do they know things, let's find out", and it's genuinely nothing but half an hour of movie stars being wrong about either useless trivia or hyper-expert pseudo-knowledge. And EVERYBODY FUCKING WATCHES that shit.
Of course it's uninteresting. That's the lesson. You care about things that don't matter so much you care only about those anymore.
Although the conclusion of that episode is magical, and a huge middle finger to the entire process

Something extremely recurring in the tone of the show is how so many people revolve around completely unimportant and worthless matters to fill their lives with SOMETHING. They are all so humanly boring and non-existent that a single second spent on NOT doing anything that drowns their thoughts in… anything, will make them feel dead inside.
Every character is like that, although Diane definitely is the absolute example herself. She has absolutely everything to be happy -a loving husband, a dream job, lots of friends and validation, a fortune at her disposal- yet she, again and again, selfishly starts going mental over menial and idiotic things that either don't matter, or that she has absolutely no control nor knowledge over. Her being the "basic feminist shithead" shows that so much, because she goes crazy about how muh wimmin while every time making it about her, doing it to make herself look important, like she's fighting "for women" and not just for herself.
The episode about abortion for example is exactly that : she fucks up into making a star say publicly she'll get an abortion, which starts an entire uproar about the topic. Then she realizes it's all just "show business" and fake and abuse of an extremely important thing because it's happening TO HER, and not a single time do any of the parties realize that this is actually a real-life ordeal for so many people. Either talk show hosts who like retards turn the entire thing into a pseudo-intellectual debate to non-experts who are just there to serve as mouthpieces for morons and hyper-moral maniacs, or multi-billion dollars worth pop singers who are just in it for the attention and the money… or Diane herself, who forgets that the entire thing isn't just about her own single experience, but how many other people don't get the comfort and ease she does in this entire trouble.
They are all selfish and all pretending like they aren't. Because the minute they stop pretending, they will have to actually notice who they are, and they will never like what they see.
And they know that.

So they have to work hardcore, at all times, to make themselves forget they are who they are.

The only notable exceptions are Todd, but it's because he's too carefree and dumb to really have any notion of anything complex, or at the very least to attach himself to it (yet strangely is attentive and aware; because at least he doesn't need to lie to himself about anything); and Mr Peanutbutter, who is the victim of so much abuse and betrayal and still manages to forgive.

Them not developing is the point. It's the struggle.
The first season is about facing who you are and realizing you're terrible.
The second season is about facing who you are and doing everything you can to stop being terrible.
The third season is about facing who you are and coming to terms with the fact you will never stop being terrible.

I like the animals as metaphors. It's a lot easier to accept Mr. Peanutbutter's character because he's a dog. He acts like a dog. He is a dog.

They obviously wouldn't have given him gags like chasing the mailman if he wasn't.

I hate that stuff in shows, it's retarded.

I love that stuff. I don't care if it's low brow greeting card humour. It makes me smile, fuck you. Maggots running a funeral directors, it's fucking funny, get over yourself.
The waitress is a cow and she gets mad at a guy ordering a steak. It's fucking funny, suck my dick.

You seem upset

He's a dog and he likes tennis balls. It's fucking funny, fuck you.

...

There's a fucking seahorse man and he's pregnant. It's fucking genius, kill yourself.

Ssh…do you here it? It's the sound of butthurt.

>sometimes

Took too long

Pathetic. Do tell me more of your humblety, as I laugh you off.

Fuck you. Suck my dick. There's like a fly man, and he's buzzing around some food. It's funny, fuck you.

I only saw Bojack Horseman once but it was lame, predictable and unimaginative. I'm astounded that anyone here or in the UK thinks it's clever social satire. If you want biting insights into American suburban and middle-class life try reading Updike, Vonnegut, Vidal, etc. If you want something a little funnier and edgier try David Sedaris.

You can pinpoint the exact moment this user decided to make a shitty derail attempt.

It was funny, fuck you. It's not like this thread was going anywhere.

I just hated the main character.

There's only two things I'd say are "wrong" with the show. One is the early episodes that are played like any other animated sitcom. Two, which is the main one, is the "fake character development." They constantly treat it like Bojack is trying to improve as a person, but in two season (Not counting the first, which was him LEARNING he was a terrible person), he only does one thing to try and make up for everything shitty he's done, which is apologizing to the female director. Most of the other complaints are personal preference.

Why are you back, you pretentious faggot?
Only a namefag could enjoy this show.

I never really left ? Been posting regularly everywhere hun. I use Holla Forums everyday.
The point is that the CHARACTERS are boring, and try their hardest to pretend they aren't, which makes watching them pretend and act not boring.

And the site quality suffers from it.

If the site is so bad, go away.

Going back on topic, since crying about worthless drama is probably not the best way to improve the site's quality

The first few episodes, going back to them, are a bit lame and slow, you're right. They're not bad but they're nothing special, and the jokes fall a bit flat. But regarding the "fake character development", well it's kind of the lesson the show's trying to push I suppose. Namely, that he is incapable of "being" a better person. His "core" is broken. He has to live with the fact he is a horrid person and that nothing can change that. Not oscars, not an acting career, not drugs, not sex, not even love. He hurts and destroys and that is his nature.
However, he causes other people's "developments" around him. Todd changes and becomes a bit wiser and more cynical, Diane accepts to take the blame and realizes what she might become, Sara Lynn… well… her life got better without him, actually.
The show is about someone who makes everyone miserable, including himself. And everything it implies.

Season 4 will be….?

Literally the final minute of season two is someone telling him, "You can do it, but i's going to be difficult every day." And the final shot of season 3 reinforces that with the shot of the horses running. He's definitely a better person by the end of season 3, but barely any. A lot of the show just kind of ignores him wanting to be better and focuses on what a depressed sack of shit he is.

Shit man, don't ask me. The end of season 3 has him ruin another life AGAIN right as he seems to "wake up". My assumption is that he will actually realize he hurts everyone around him, leave, live all alone for a while, and then after a while his "friends" will find him again, force him to come back, and to go back to his old ways. Probably to meet up with his daughter

But that's the thing : I don't believe he "is a better person". He just gets better at hiding how horrible he is. In one episode he explains to a soon to be married girl that what matters is to clutch onto someone whom you're comfortable with because otherwise you risk never finding any such person ever again, and will force yourself to fill your life with whatever empty crap that is never enough instead.
That's him. He fills his crap with whatever because he now has nobody, and he has nobody because he is nobody.
He doesn't have a sense of self, he doesn't have any respect for himself and he doesn't know anyone who would genuinely be there at his funeral and go "you know, life without him will be worse". He is depressed because he doesn't have anyone close to him and he doesn't have anyone close to him because he's depressed. It's a never-ending cycle of trying hard to hide who you are so people accept your existence for you to forget who you are.

He isn't becoming "better". He's becoming a better actor. Even when there is no camera around.

I'm under the idea that Season 4 is going to be about Bojack discovering he's not the ONLY cause of his friends misery.

While he's not a HEALTHY influence on the people around him, he's not the only thing dragging them all down.

Ralph is operating under the assumption that Princess Carolyn was miserable because of her work, and NOT because she was going through spectacularly rough patch at the time. Anyone who watches this show knows Carolyn LOVES her work for the most part, and it's pretty likely that for as nice a guy this guy is, he doesn't really understand her that well.

Todd basically needs a babysitter more than anything. The dip somehow managed to give away Eight Million dollars as a tip because he wasn't paying attention. His relationship with Emily is most likely gonna hit the rocks hard when this sinks in with her, and will cause a split if she can't handle that aspect of him.

Diane is basically working for Gawker now, and Mister Peanut-butter is going into politics. Enough said.

So Season 4 could be focusing on Bojack slowly discovering that, while he's not a healthy influence on others, he's FAR from the only thing dragging them all down.

I'm pretty sure next season will focus a lot on Bojack letting go of everything and just running free. Maybe becoming a bit happier than ever before. A simple life is what he needs.

Shit, I forgot that ending with Diane, fuck you man that was so intensely painful to watch. She is going to ruin her husband, she is going to get a divorce, she is going to wreck her life because of how much she craves validation from an audience. Holy shit.
You're right. In a way that would be quite a clever thing to "reverse" the entire thing of Bojack being such a source of misery for everyone, and how he managed to indeed "become better" or some shit, like that hamster director, by being on his own -or going back to "his roots" with those horses-, and how finding his "old life" back, because of all those people that are perfectly capable of causing mayhem everywhere they go without his help, brings him back into misery and self-hate… shit…

That underwater episode (personally my favorite of the entire show, it was so brilliant) shows he needs a child. This is something so present in his character, the need to be a better parent than the parents he had. And in a way, psychologically, it would make perfect sense for him to "collect" that correct parenthood back by finally being the good father he never had. Healing the wound.

You.

Or are you talking about Horsin Around?!

It's not selling.

SJW garbage

You posted this in every bojack thread on both Holla Forumss since s3 came out. We get it, you wanted to make a pasta. Only a namefag…

Not to mention the reason bojack brings everyone around him down is because they brought him down in the first place. a self-feeding loop of misery.

He'll break free of the loop while they continue to wallow in the negative feedback loop they created for themselves.

Bojack has been beating himself up for the past several seasons.

Here's the thing.

He's the only one who is self-aware and wants to make things right. He's aware of his influence, and hates himself for it.

The others are willing to blame him for their misery, and are unaware of their own failings. They externalize them, or bask in their own bullshit. Like Diane.

That alone makes Bojack a far better character and person than the rest of the people. He's made mistakes, but he's willing to try to fix them.

They double down on their own mistakes.

I have never posted on halfchan since the GG exodus. Nice meme though.

In a way the difference between Bojack and other people is that other people at the very least have people they like and are liked by, whereas Bojack is… well, at the very least he doesn't feel loved by anybody. He feels like he has to force others to love him, like he needs excuses to be loved by them. He can't just… "be loved", to the point where even someone who does love him like that owl girl I forgot the name of, he feels like… well, he has to demolish the relationship. He is so convinced of not being lovable that the mere hint of being POSSIBLY loved is something he has to destroy.

The show was developed in the first place.

The biggest problem with the show is that it's made by SJWs. Hense Feminism, the episode.

Please don't bully Val.
He's under my protection

This show looks like garbage. How can anyone tolerate this artstyle?

seasons 2

the show

Now i know you're making bs, /a/

Because of the writing.

Are you fucking stupid?

No, just pointing out a horrible trend

Elaborate please.

Writers gonna autism

Vals fine, you are cancer

It was perfect as an eleven episode thing and everyone should have been happy that they got what they got, but they had to make a twelth.

Who is best girl?

...

Except she is portrayed as in the right, did you forget the Cosby episode where everyone but her didn't believe that Bill didn't rape those women (opposite of real life were most people believed the victims) and the people who called her out were obvious MRA strawmen.

Any girl that can turn their head around and look at you while you fuck them doggy style is always best girl.

One fucking episode, out of 3 seasons of the writers shitting on her from being holier-than-thou yet no actually having any real perspective on the world. Remember the abortion episode? Or her running away from being a humanitarian because she couldn't stand it?

...

Wasn't the point of that that both sides were using the thing to push an agenda and feel good about themselves, rather than actually looking for the truth?

You're completely misrepresenting that episode though, as explained, it was about how Diane was going mental over something that she had no control over and was doing it for herself, not because it mattered. Yes she WAS right, not because "muh feminism" but because this fucking system DOES allow scum to do whatever they please as soon as they're powerful, whether it's rape or corruption or murder or pedophilia or. As long as you're famous and loved as a famous figure, people will adore you, however terrible of a human being you are.
This doesn't mean at all, however, that people calling for her head even though she is a fucking nobody who has done nothing but go "yeah it totally happened" on TV once is fair, NOR that she is right in her crusade that involves forcing down everyone's throat something that should be dealt with by the police and not by her twisted sense of self.
Reminder that the hero of the entire series is Bojack; and what does Bojack, the main character, who is present during the entirety of the episode, constantly tell her ? "Stop. Don't do this. This is useless and it won't help anyone, and especially not you". Why would you think the show would side with a side character more than the main protagonist ?..
Also, the "feminist" side that helps her, that manatee girl or whatever, turns out to be just as powerless and cowardly as the rest of them all. If that isn't a message…

The lesson isn't "women are all victims and men are so meaaan", the lesson is "the system and the culture are shaped so that either you're powerful, or you're powerless". That's it.
That's all.

It's a show written by people from Liberal Hollywood, about people in Liberal Hollywood, and you guys act surprised when people in the show act like Hollywood liberals?

Los Angeles rots your brain. It doesn't make you a bad person, and it doesn't mean you can't watch and enjoy stuff they make, but you have to realize LA will most certainly make you stupid in some way.

Its too bad that this show doesn't mention anything about mkultra or the child rape rings that plague Hollywood.

Much of the show is clearly supposed to be shining a light on how full of shit Hollywood Liberals are.

the answer should be clear

Sure it is, user. Keep telling yourself that.

I just started watching it the other day in like the second episode you had not only a positive portrayal of Gloria " all porn is rape" Steinum but it also pushed the "Halloween is casual racism" agenda

There's certainly an element of that, yes. You can't live in LA for too long without thinking at least one person you know is a pretentious prick.

But LA always drives you just a little bit crazy. Like I said, it doesn't make you a bad person, it just means you live in a dumb culture that's bound to rub off on you.

If it's too subtle for you, then I don't know what to say.

I guess in its attempt to be satire it becomes the annoying shit its supposed to mock.

I don't remember the Halloween thing. Are you sure it's endorsing it, or was it just something said by a character in a show where almost every character is packed to the brim with shit?

It's impossible to tell but given the shit the writers do believe I wouldn't be surprised.

If it's ambiguous at all, I prefer to treat it as just a joke, so that if it's a joke and I'm laughing at it then it's fine, and if it's not a joke then I'm already laughing at it.

It has to be a joke. Halloween was derived from European traditions.

You have people every year pushing the "Its a culture not a costume" line.
Also having watched a bit more of the show they also try to push lena dunham as if anyone cares.
The show is okay enough but moments like that show how pozzed the writers are.

What are you talking about ?

Executives everywhere are trying to make "Lena Dunham" the next big writer. Also, stop pretending to be me. That shit isn't funny.

Oh, I thought you meant the show itself was promoting Dunham, sorry.
Also next time you want to do some silly "teehee I'm so Val" try to learn how to speak French, étrangement en être incapable alors que je me suis présenté comme une grenouille depuis toujours ne rend pas le délire très pertinent

Arrêter d'essayer de faire semblant d'être moi

… huh… not bad, wasn't expecting that, I'll admit.
I don't care much though, as long as it doesn't shit up the thread it's fine; polite sage

Val took a break from Holla Forums after getting BTFO'd in the now dead Board-tan thread (#3). Thread died on 12/7.
8ch.net/search.php?search=name:"Val"&board=co
It was a nice and peaceful break but he's back and he was even brave enough to post on Holla Forums to tell them that he wasn't a pedophile.

I don't get where this "he stopped posting on Holla Forums" joke comes from. I've been posting in hellcat storytimes and even that board ten thread where I got "BTFO".
I also only posted once on Holla Forums to share a video. That's it. You don't have to pretend to be me every time, user.

wait you were the one that did the hellcat storytimes? I'll thank you for posting the older Hellcat which was decent at least.

Oh, I apologize, I didn't storytime myself ! The guy who does these is too much of a godly figure for me to imagine I ever could reach his levell. No, I meant, I post in these threads. >>745869's fanfic involves me never posting again after the third board-tan threads, I just replied that it's false since… well, I never stopped, nor really cared.
Sorry. Also, can't wait for the next one; paradoxically, while always a terrible experience, sharing it on Holla Forums always manages to turn it into a sweet, enjoyable and friendly one.

...

It plays it completely straight.

...

...

Thanks for reminding me to

He didn't get with Diane.

This.
Anyone who likes this trite for being "deep" should gas themselves.
How to remove filter? Now that everyone hates Val I am willing to read what retarded shit he says.

Simply go to your options (top right) and select "filters".

Literally too deep for you.

Val, stop making my favourite series of the last 10 years look bad with your niggery.

the last 10 minutes of season 3
the series could have been perfect if those 10 minutes didnt exist

It's the same for me though. Definitely one of the best animated series I've seen. Reminded me a bit of Moral orel in quite a few ways.
Did I say anything to make it look bad somehow ? Or are you just bullying me ?

You are being a narcissistic faggot and nowhere narcissistic faggots are more shunned than on the chinese cartoon forums.
You are basically being a furry without the fursuit.

If this show is subtle then it is doing a horrendous job at it.

If they wanted to portay depression in a realistic way then write about a normal guy or gal. Who the fuck cares about some Hollywood has-been? Who the fuck cares about anyone in Hollywood? All of them are destined to crash and burn.

It turns out audiences won't watch a show about a "normal" character. The character and/or circumstances have to be extraordinary in some way in order to keep the audience's interest.

This

normal people suck.
why would normal people want to watch other normal people sucking?

I'd rather watch a bland show about normalfags than hollywood trash.

Then how come King of the Hill lasted for 13 years? It didnt even have the animals to differentiate itself.

You know hwhy

...

If you don't name him he won't come

Actually I post on Holla Forums regularly, regardless of people's acknowledging of me, user.

...

best girl

BOJACK IS THE HERO WE ALL NEED

Then go outside

Says the guy defending a show that cries about how haaaaaard it is to be in hollywood

rednecks

This

I took the halloween thing as a sample of what it meant to be the archetype of being a "bad attitude" person.
The way the characters speak about issues related to identity politics makes them look too self-aware for the show to be completely pozzed.

I don't want to.

everything

What
