Sexual orientation is probably largely a function of physical brain structure. There are good guy heteros and bad guy heteros. There are good guy homos and bad guy homos. There are good guy pedos and bad guy pedos. A good guy pedo is never going to hurt a kid by being sexual with one, despite his involuntary inclinations. A bad guy pedo needs to be prevented from hurting kids by whatever means necessary.

I think your explanation is a little superficial: the black and white dichotomy that people imagine pedophilia falls under isn't true—reality operates in shades of grey.

Take me, for instance: I've never had sex with a child, nor have I ever consumed child pornography, and yet I still firmly believe that society should be different, that it has to change eventually. If it were an available option, I'd be out there right now protesting for the right to love who I want, along with a considerable number of my kind, I imagine.

I think a better way of framing that remark would be: Decent people don't have sex with children, at least right now, because of the immense risk we'd put them under; people without such scruples try their hand anyway, irrespective of the damage they could do, and need to be locked up.
