I think it's easily justifiable. I would leave the plan voluntary (no forced sterilization, just subsidized) and only apply it to severe, crippling diseases which are highly heritable. In that case I don't see any moral problems at all: there are no victims at all unless you count hypothetical children that might have existed.

Adoptions could also be subsidized for those who accept the payment for the procedure; that way the program has an added bonus of getting more kids out of foster care and into permanent homes.

I was born with an auto-immune disease, a non-rheumatoid arthritis. Thanks to modern medicine, I'm able to not only prevent pain, but symptoms altogether. Effectively, I'm cured, and in able to do able-bodied things like lift weights and work and hunt outside.

For years I figured I would abstain from children to avoid passing on my condition, no matter how mild, unnoticeable, and manageable it is. Of course now I'm dating a woman with the intention of marrying her. We're both tall, white, athletic, and high IQ, both in the same field of crop research. I know for her, having children and being a loving mother is more important than anything else. So here's the question I've been asking myself for years now: Do I take the risk and produce offspring that are white, tall and intelligent with the chance of a manageable condition, or do I remove myself from the genepool? I'm leaning towards the former, but undecided still, but I would like your input.
