Not to mention the dictatorship is the most blatant display of power there is. If the country gets fucked up by a dictator, everyone knows who's fault it is, so long as he is a nationalistic dictator and not controlled by some shadow kabal. This model worked pretty well for China until the commies, with the rulers having the "mandate of heaven" until they fuck up (or crops fail or some other shit like that, but in the modern day we know that isn't on the ruler) and so the people oust him.

Of course, Chinese style rule is the worst case scenario, optimally the dictator steps down when things start going to shit and people get angry. The occasional ousting of bad dictators has the additional benefit of not allowing the people to go soft, like our current culture.

It sure beats the alternative. In a dictatorship, if it's a failure everyone knows whose fault it is. With a democracy it's always a failure (except for a small minority) yet knows it's all because of the assholes from the other party.
