Remember how New Atheists were cool? Once, it seemed that most "smart people" were supposed to be concerned with religion, science and theocracy. There was an universal pro-Atheism consensus on most online places worth visiting, and atheists were as popular as you could be as a public intellectual. But then, the obnoxious behavior of many of them started destroying the concept for most people, even former atheists, who now define themselves as Agnostics or vaguely as "non-religious" and avoid the subject.
Then Libertarians were the cool group. Everyone was trying to pander to the libertarian crowd and claim some kinship to libertarianism, particulally during the 2008 - 12 elections. But the constant influx of teens who were not really willing to read Hayek and instead just repeated "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" made the group such a caricature that even people who used to identify as Libertarians before Ron Paul's presidential campaigns started feeling alienated from the movement.
Now, the SJWs, who achieve a degree of mainstream acceptance that the above never did (in part due to how more and more people got "clued up" on internet trends, social media, etc.) are the cool group, and they're starting to die and lose momentum.
Once this happens, I'm starting to feel that the radical Left will be the new groups that makes it to the headlines and monopolizes debate for a while. Sanders kickstarted it, there is already some decent new pundits and publications on our side, we've been growing since the crisis, etc.
If this happens, how do we stop ourselves from imploding like those above did? The Left is already, collectively, a lot dumber and louder than they used to be, and the few voices of reason we have among our numbers are not really the type who have the balls and nerve to call out other leftists for shitty behavior, ignorance, arrogance, stupidity, naivety, etc.
As OWS showed, there's no shortage of ludicrous behavior in our part that our enemies can use to sabotage us.
