There is undeniably a link between diversity and the US.
The reason is simple: Americanisation.
It is US policy (for whatever reason: jews, liberals or whatever) to Americanise the rest of the world (hence why you see Coca Cola billboards even in God forsaken places like Afghanistan Somalia or Tibet) by whichever means: cultural, demographic, political, economic etc.
Now about demography - America is a multi-ethnic country and has been for a very long time. Thus, in order to Americanise another country you must, by definition, diversify it. Likewise, you can't Americanise other countries if they stay homogenous. Very simple concept.
