VPNs

Considering recent federal changes, I am considering using a VPN, but I have no idea which ones are shit. Anyone I know who has a VPN has P.I.A. which makes me wary of it.
Which VPNS are good or shit?

vps + openvpn

NordVPN and BlackVPN. But that's not enough. Consider getting DNSCrypt and privacy oriented browsers.

TorrentFreak has a pretty good yearly rundown of the better vpn services.
torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-anonymous-review-2017-170304/

It's also very easy to route all of your dns lookups to Tor dns servers. Just running the Tor service provides ports for that. And you can use orbot to do the same thing on your cellphone. Easier than dnscrypt.

t. person that never used dnscrypt

I currently use VPNArea, which was on Torrentfreak's 2016 and 2017 review.

It's a fairly new brand to the field but it is competitively priced and is always adding new servers. Their 6 month and a year plans are only $10 apart but they always have discounts and coupons available. The one I used brought the one year plan down to $49, giving you 6 more months for free.

I'm too old to do the whole 12 y.o. e-peen routine with you, so I'll just let you run with it.

NordVPN is so slow it turns all people off VPNs

Most people also don't know how VPNS and 4chan work, including some mods. You need a 4chan pass to post in many cases, Holla Forums does not have these types of IP range restriction

Look into VPNs with a dedicated IP service, that IP will most likely not be banned anywhere, f you need more privacy you can switch back to the public servers but they may be banned from bank website or the chans

PIA is fine for avoiding ISP snooping and copyright lawsuits. No VPN will protect you from the NSA or whatever.

so NordVPN is a no-go?

im new to VPNs, what should i use?

HideMyAss :^)

wew lad. new to the internet?

Woudn't you say that a VPN that doesn't keep logs or monitor user traffic could actually protect you pretty effectively from an intelligence service like NSA?

PSA: If you pay more than $5 a year for a VPN tunnel, you're getting screwed. $10 is the absolute maximum, with reserved non-shared, IP and numerous and not-so-oversubscribed servers. You'd need 1Gig at home to even utilize that, though.

Also, there's no such thing as lifetime. It's more like "5 years prepaid", as in 5 years the company will most likely cease to exist.

If the company needs to spam their high-margin service so unscrupolously, they're in sucker business. Use google for once.

Finally, VPNs provide a thin layer of privacy at the cost of exposing your overall surface (you have to trust yet another party). But they won't give you anonymity. If somebody makes an inquiry about you through court system, every western VPN provider must and will comply, regardless of their marketing. Lawful interception is well, lawful.

Normally, ISPs should respect your privacy (as in, not reveal your data to unauthorized 3rd parties), making VPN pointless.

Complete bullshit. You didn't say one single thing that isn't bullshit.

Are you fucking retarded?

gave me a sensible chuckle, im new but not that new user.

I use cryptostorm vpn and DNScrypt. Sometime I use tor just for browsing articles

your dick is shorter than going through a script I guess.

...

You seem well rounded with technology. What are your thoughts on this?

youtube.com/watch?v=RXJKdh1KZ0w

In a thread like this, deaf ears. You should also probably update this pasta with note about lack of warrant canaries and how most VPNs deem those "useless".

Use Tor

Anons please stop being retarded most VPN services are cloudflared and it's 100% useless when cloudflare is involved.

Again use tor
torproject.org/
or create your own VPN that you control and you know how it's configured.

Nice argument
Go back shilling on cuckchan

Note:
Creating your own vpn is still useless for privacy considering the enormous datamining in the current year

Instead of tails there's heads it's a fork without binary blobs or systemd
heads.dyne.org/

pretty shit damage control m8

Do you know what damage control is ?
Still not an argument.

Wouldn't adding a build option to tails to avoid non-free packages achieve the same? A whole new distro sounds a bit like overkill.

Again, isn't this is optional in debian.

I'm - commercial VPNs do have their use, especially to obfuscate P2P traffic with good performance, plus can't be always replaced with personal VPS - most notably, having bunch of fast proxies spanning dozens of countries often come in handy.

The point I'm trying to make is that any ranking based on bullshit marketing privacy metrics is stupid, as there are severe fundamental limits to that and conveniently omitted. They all provide basic privacy up to certain limit, as a matter of market reputation. Rational choice is to pick the cheap. Such offers are typically yearly - $5-$10 range, or "lifetime" (=~3 years, ~$30).

the word shill has lost all meaning at this point.

the problem here is that you can't post images on most imageboards using TOR for obvious reasons, owners have blocked it for fear of CP

Use VPS for shitposting. Most public vpns are banned too, because you inevitably share IP with retards.

this is why i like to have an ADSL provider. you can shitpost and get a new IP by simply restarting your router.

if only the connection was half as stable as an optic fiber provider...

Note to noobs:

On many threads concerning internet security or privacy, law enforcement and intelligence community shills, affectionately known as "Agent FUD", often try to spread misinformation about encryption, Tor, VPNs, Tails, and any other effective deterrants to surveillance.

The usual script is something like, "Oh, __ doesn't work. No, was compromised years ago. just makes things worse. You shouldn't use __."

Tor, Tails, encryption with strong passphrases, etc, are very strong countermeasures to surveillance, whether by your ISP for profit or anyone else. That's why they're desperate for you not to use them. Keep that in mind when they show up and start spreading their nonsense.

This has been a public service announcement.

thanks user.

can you recommend any particularly?

+1 for cryptostorm shits legit, open source and decentralized

theres ton of those. not endorsing anyone in particular: digitalocean is popular being noob friendly, online.net is cheap and a physical box (small ARM box), which is a bit better suited for privacy than a vps. i guess these two are the most relevant parameters to discussion here.

Look you stupid nigger thats just the main website which has nothing to do with the actual VPN servers. I hate the fact that people will take you seriously. Absolute moron

Help. I can connect to VPN only once per PC boot (I have to restart after disconnecting if I want to connect again).

The issue appeared suddenly (everything worked well previously), and I'm using openvpn on Mint 18.1.

After I try connecting second time, it gives notification that it connected to VPN, but everything gives page timeout. Regular internet works fine either way.

Today's VPN services:

IPredator has a Tor exit for a long time, that may be a bonus point. atlas.torproject.org/#/top10

No and no. Read their legal pages.

Non-shared IP? Why are you using the VPN then?
$10 is worth about 3TB of traffic. And bandwidth is much more expensive outside france-germany-italy-netherlands-usa quintet. Make sure you know the peering and IX prices before you comment next time. Not to mention some VPN providers specifically target bittorrent users.

Go to Endchan.

OVH (ovh.ie/) and aruba (arubacloud.com) have so much spam and malware, they will not care about some shitposter. You have to be very unlucky to be kicked off.

need i remind you about our lord and savior?

blackvpn:
- they use Cloudflare
- they use Google
- they do not even own their own domain name
have fun using them

There hasn't been any changes, the privacy protections in that bill that was repealed weren't even in affect yet, so literally nothing has changed.

Nothing will protect you from the government if they really want you anyway

Why? I'm trying to not help the NSA

Note to noobs:

On many threads concerning internet security or privacy, law enforcement and intelligence community shills, affectionately known as "Agent FUD", often try to spread misinformation about encryption, Tor, VPNs, Tails, and any other useless deterrent to surveillance. The easiest way to spot them is that they're retarded and can't spell, using made up words like 'deterrants'.

The usual script is something like, "Oh, totally works. Yes, it was compromised years ago but it doesnt count because. It will totally make everything better. You should totally use ."

Tor, Tails, encryption with strong passphrases, whatever may help against google or your ISP, but is completely useless against entities such as government intelligence agencies. That's why they're so desperate for you to use them, so you do some retarded shit believing the snake oil works. Keep that in mind when they show up and start spreading their nonsense.

This has been a public service announcement.

t. Agent FUD

You have to write a message after linking a post and signing off, agent.

You're gonna get a paycut for this.

French legislation they are obligated to sniff and transmits everything to the DGSI who then communicates it to the NSA

endchan is fucking dead, and the UI is disgustingly ugly to look at.

even then, if Holla Forums were to die, i think people would migrate there out of sheer necessity

You can thank the CIA for doing this on purpose.

And ?
Do you know how the configure their VPNs ?
If they use it on their website it's most likely they use it in general.
Eat Shit.

Tor is decentralized, you can create a node or not use one.
It not only obfuscate your ip but also your browser and hardware fingerprint.
It goes even further if you disable javascript and it is recommended to do so.
Can you explain me that if you use tor how it will help the NSA in any way ?

anybody else protonmail vpn beta?

You are all fucking retarded. There's no point to any of this since none of you are planning to attack the system anyway. Whether you achieve your individual privacy or not the system will continue on its current shitty course and you won't do shit about it. Per-individual solutions are a retarded meme designed to distract you from attempting to change things on a general level.
Go sabotage ISPs' infrastructure, then you'll have an actual good reason to be clandestine. But you won't because overall you love the system, all this complaining is just another social ritual. Dumb faggots.

Textboards is the final solution.
Just have post limit so idiots can't uuencode pictures, and have flood protection so idiots can't split uuencoded image into 1000 posts.

You don't know what the future holds, and anyway why are you speaking for other anons? Best secure that shit right the fuck now.

Thats some amazon tier pricing. EU prices are $5 @ 300Mbps flatrate. Aggregated bw is fine, you don't need data allotment unless you plan to utilize a 10GBps pipe which goes with it with burst traffic.

Actually, its most of eu, not just those 4. Lambdas to major IXes are very competetive. US is ~4x pricier because monopolized lambdas, Asia 10x, even more monopolies.

Problem is, most of chans are behind cuckflare. And cuckflare made a point of filtering out almsot every dahua camera out there with default password, because some retard had the brilliant idea of pointing it at them. 2016 was the year when skids killed most easy proxies.

How's Trust.zone? Currently I'm using its trial version and so far it's running pretty well.

Needs email for trial (luckily temp works fine). Speed is okish (50Mbps). Nice to have another in my collection.

BTW, anyone know others with trial? The only other good one is vpnoneclick.com.

I'm not interested in "free" tier ones, as those are capped to ridiculously slow speeds/few servers.

Also both appear to support permatrial if you practice some autism to figure it out.

This tbh

This board is a shitfest of pinkos that got into low-tier tech babble. I really hate it here and I don't know why I come here. I guess I'm hopeful that something interesting will pop up but it never does. They sit around arguing operating systems, browsers, addons and really basic bitch tier shit. "Hey download this program. It's open source!" None of these people are programmers. None of these people work actual computer science jobs. This is the board where failed techies go to die and they all seem to adopt some kind of computer-marxism shit which is just aids.I get it, you want to believe you're safe and that your software does what you want it to and not open doors to three letters agencies. That's fine. I don't think anyone would give you shit for that but for the love of god none of you are freedom fighters. None of you read source code, because that requires some incredible skill. Even if you did read it, you wouldn't even know what it said.

Like said. None of you are against the system. Perhaps if you were all Holla Forums-tier activists, I could understand it, but you're again... pinkos. What are you covering up? Your gay porn habits? How about you all just get the fuck out and do something worthwhile, so that you have to have actual concerns about your privacy.

LOL

Computer scientists don't even work computer science jobs. Most computer scientists become programmers.
