Just turn off your brain :D

How did his space ship achieve faster than light travel?

How does anyone think this film is good?

who says it did?

Rob Ager would like a word with you

Retard.

I doubt the Thing and whoever built the ship spent millions of years traveling to Earth.

Because it was a copy of a human being that knew the language. Think of it as an emulation. The program still acts like it's the real thing even if it's not.

Warp drives, wormholes, FTL being actually possible…

It's not that hard, anons.

It's pretty good for the atmosphere alone. Though it does kinda suck when compared to Alien because the monster isn't that fuckable.

The galaxy can actually be traveled from end to end in only several million years under the speed of light. The aliens may have sent a ship to every planet they were able to observe, grey goo theory perhaps.

The thing is intelligent?

I'd think so
or perhaps the thing infected some other alien and thats why they crashed?

There's a really good short story that takes place during the events of the film, but from the Thing's point of view. Apparently the Thing is a sentient hive mind that wants to free humanity from their brains so that humans may also know the joys of being one with the collective.

Sounds like a bad premise for a story. I always assumed

Heres the story the movie was based on

It eats their knowledge

so kinda like the boss bug in starship troopers?

The Thing is communism?

But is it true communism?

It´s never true communism…

What if it works?

...

I don't get it. I remember my Dad laughing his ass off at the effects when we watched it in the late 80s. IMO it's porn for nihilists and since those are the people who generally go into critique, it gets plaudits that it doesn't deserve.

I remember that one. It says it's going to rape them to happiness or something at the end.

The Thing represents women.
Think about it: the station is staffed only by men. Everything's working fine. Then the Thing shows up, and suddenly it's chaos – the men are turning on each other, using up resources, being manipulated by something that lies and manipulates as second nature, that cares only about itself.

No, The Thing represents TRUMP! HAHA HAHAHA HA HA

The Thing represents Jews.
Think about it: the station is staffed only by mostly white men. Everything's working fine. Then the Thing shows up, and suddenly it's chaos – the men are turning on each other, using up resources, being manipulated by something that lies and manipulates as second nature, that cares only about itself.

...

The Thing represents Bane.
Think about it: the station is staffed only by small guys. They feel in charge. Then the Thing shows up, and suddenly the fire rises – the men are crashing each other, telling them
nothing, being manipulated by something that uses theatricality and deception as second nature, that cares only about its Plan.

yeah, the rubber alien suit in the movie totally looked like that bro

Don't you get it, the Thing was a Drumpf cuck shabbos goy!

The Thing represents Drumpf.
Think about it: the station is staffed mostly by immigrants. Everything's working fine. Then the Thing shows up, and suddenly it's chaos – the men are deporting each other, using up resources, being manipulated by something that lies and manipulates as second nature, that cares only about itself. .

Jews and women mostly operate with the same mentality.

GET OUT!

Part of the process of imitating other lifeforms. Assume their physical appearance as well as speech patterns.

What does a sci-fi monster movie have to do with nihilism?

But that is utter bullshit, the Things seem to be behave in precisely the opposite manner, each prioritizing its own safety over that of others. Palmer points out the head-thing to score points, "I'm not a thing guise I told you about the head-bug."

Rather than coordinating their efforts and supporting the others things they turn on them to ensure their own survival. And the component parts abandon the body in the same way if it is being burned or they are injured. The things could have turned on the humans when they were distracted burning a revealed copycat, instead they always kill their own rather than take the risk.

Also Peter Watts is a faggot and writes with the diction of a redditor.

You can say that movie is shit, but that's not the definition of nihilism.

Even better, you can say that the movie is not shit and not nihilistic

Let's take the incomprehensible horror and humanize it and make it sympathetic, fantastic, thanks reddit.

The movie appeals to nihilists because the message is that no one is trustworthy, anyone could be an alien, and the alien is likely still alive at the end and is going to win. A world with the Thing is a world without love or trust. A world in which you must be a sociopath.

It sure as shit isn't a HFY movie. It has a Lovecraftian 'we are fucked' message.

The Thing has no 'head.' So long as one piece survives, it will sacrifice any other so long as it has biomatter to infect.

It took me reading most of the thread before I realized you weren't talking about the thing from Fantastic Four and instead about this movie.

Epic.

Like a lizard who rather loses it's tail than getting eaten?

It's a survival-instinct in a horror-movie who's not deeper than making money and entertain people. I'm sick of these redditards trying to find deep messages in schlock-movies.

then it's definitely not communism

...

The Thing is the only illegal alien that speaks English.

user, that's not the movie we're discussing right now.

Did the people that were infected by the Thing know they were infected? It copies all of your dna when it takes you over, so were they more or less in complete control until the Thing took over? The Thing easily could have fucked off into the snow early in the first movie and just waited it out with no way for anyone to find it. It instead acted like whatever it infected, which caused it more trouble in the long run. It easily could have just infected one organism and only one organism. It would have had a free ride to civilization.

Hilarious coincidence.
