I've considered a lot of the common issues mentioned such as tribalism and poor economic decisions on the part of the locals, but I figure that if you run everything sort of like socialism also with soft segregation, and remember to make a militia, everything should turn out fire.

Become unbeatable in guerilla warfare by arming and training basically everyone and making sure there's an abundance of growth.

In Africa, labour is cheap and goods are expensive, backwards to how things are here; so if you get an industry right, explosive growth will keep up as long as you stay in control since you can undercut everyone's prices with good quality exports and your cheaply made goods could still be rather valuable even if not exported.
Governments won't allow you to buy into this unique economic game while seeming external to the economy, so integration would be a must.
