Also I wasn't saying Jason's removal was due to popularity but that Tommy returning was. He was supposed to be written out since his sentai counterpart was killed off and they didn't have any footage of him again until they ordered the Zyu2 footage, and when that ran out they took him out again only to bring him back as white ranger.

Except it wasn't. After he left power rangers Saban was going to let JDF star in Cybertron the original Kikaider adaptation, but ratings for PR was tanking without him so they ditched all their other candidates for white ranger and made Tommy it instead.

Allow me to go back because back and forth we've gotten our greentexts mixed up.

This seemed to be what lead to the confusion. Saban was forced to write Tommy because his Sentai counterpart died and so they no longer had footage for him to use. Then Saban commissioned Toei to film new exclusive for America scenes and were able to bring Tommy back until they ran out of footage again. This is why I said they were dependent on the japanese footage, unlike Burai, Tommy wasn't killed off though so when the opportunity rose to bring him back they did because they knew how well liked he was.

Jason on the other hand, was not bound by the sentai footage. Geki was the leader of the Zyurangers, he stuck around the whole time, but when it came time for the contract disputes and Jason's actor asked Haim Saban for just a little more money they found him, as well as Zack and Trini, disposable enough to replace in the cheapest way.

They bent over backwards in order to keep Tommy around, but when Jason just wanted a little more money so he could actually support himself they showed him the door, and didn't let him back until Zeo, and for a small part in the second movie. Jason isn't an unpopular character but he is second to Tommy.

The polls you cited were exclusively red rangers, so of course Jason would win, despite Tommy being in Zeo, because he was the original MMPR red ranger, and people only remember MMPR. That's why the comics have been based only on MMPR, it's why the new movie is based around MMPR, and it's why that gritty fake movie was based on MMPR. But here's the thing ask anybody who their favorite ranger is from mighty morphin and 9/10 they'll say green/white. Tommy is the most popular ranger when looking at the franchise as a whole, and all Jason will get is #1 Red and that's only thanks to nostalgiafags. Carter Grayson deserves that title more tbh

I didn't even want to argue on behalf of MMPR is shit with the only redeeming qualities being: Zedd, Bulk, and Skull. Except in that first picture the user doesn't make the same distinction with MMPR season 2 as they do with Turbo(another season where most of the case was replaced part of the way through), or even Lost Galaxy, and since Jason, Zack, and Trini left season 2 fairly early on with episode 19 being the last time the actors were on set the characters were than pushed into the background for 9 episodes until they could transfer their powers. It's dubious to make such a claim without being able to get a hand on the actual reliable ratings of each episode I can't even find them
