Green Party U.S. passed the anti-capitalist, communalist plank!

Once again the U.S. has an anti-capitalist party with a national infrastructure with this amendment endorsed by Richard Wolff and others. The language will be inserted into the platform after the convention. I am heavily involved in the Green Party. I will answer any questions you have about the party honestly warts and all, including how many real socialists are in the party, the history of socialism in the party, how large party actually is etc…

This new platform plank removes the old wording entirely and addresses the economic inequalities, social inequalities, and productivism of both capitalism and state socialism and emphasizes grassroots democracyÑin the workplace. This workplace grassroots democracy has been largely absent from the Green platform, and many believe it is the way forward for a truly ecological economy and a new system.

AMENDMENT:
"The Green Party seeks to build an alternative economic system based on ecology and decentralization of power, an alternative that rejects both the capitalist system that maintains private ownership over almost all production as well as the state-socialist system that assumes control over industries without democratic, local decision making. We believe the old models of capitalism (private ownership of production) and state socialism (state ownership of production) are not ecologically sound, socially just, or democratic and that both contain built-in structures that advance injustices.

Instead we will build an economy based on large-scale green public works, municipalization, and workplace and community democracy. Some call this decentralized system Òecological socialism,Ó Òcommunalism,Ó or the Òcooperative commonwealth,Ó but whatever the terminology, we believe it will help end labor exploitation, environmental exploitation, and racial, gender, and wealth inequality and bring about economic and social justice due to the positive effects of democratic decision making.

Production is best for people and planet when democratically owned and operated by those who do the work and those most affected by production decisions. This model of worker and community empowerment will ensure that decisions that greatly affect our lives are made in the interests of our communities, not at the whim of centralized power structures of state administrators or of capitalist CEOs and distant boards of directors. Small, democratically run enterprises, when embedded in and accountable to our communities, will make more ecologically sound decisions in materials sourcing, waste disposal, recycling, reuse, and more. Democratic, diverse ownership of production would decentralize power in the workplace, which would in turn decentralize economic power more broadly."

I used to be involved with the Green Party, this is good to hear. Do you have any plans for addressing Bernie Sanders as your VP?

Jill Said she would try to persuade the delegates at the convention to make space for Bernie as the top-of-the-ticket or VP if Bernie decides to run as a Green.

*However*, there isn't a chance in hell that Bernie will run as an independent this year. He is hell-bent on endorsing Hillary, and 6 days ago he promised to "work with Hillary".

[desire to know more intensifies]

It's basically just a form of market socialism with a dose of environmentalism.
With that said, I approve. Mainly because market socialism is superior to Marxian communism any day of the week.

isn't communalism anti-market?

It's pretty much the same thing as communism + ecology. I don't think we can just achieve communism right away to be honest. One step at a time.

It doesn't matter. They're complete shit. They only passed the plank to be more appealing for angry Bernie fags.

You don't see any potential at all? Why? What's you take?

The Green Party has had members of Socialist Party USA and Socialist Alternative for years. SPUSA in particular.

The Green Party's largest 2012 campaign was a dual Socialist-party-USA-Green Party member running for governor in New York: Howie Hawkins.

Also, here's an anticapitalist speech from Jill Stein in 2013

"Jill Stein - Why Capitalism is Killing the Planet - EcoSocialist Conference" 2013

Obviously because the Green Party has existed as sort of an umbrella organization for many years it has it's share of liberals and capitalists, but the socialists have been winning for the last 5 years or so in the party.

Ben Manski has a lot to do with it too. He ran Jill's campaign in 2012 and often spoke out in favor of socialism.

There's also some quote from the pseudo-MRA-feminist Camille Paglia somewhere about her complaining in 2012 about the Green Party moving towards socialism

Green Parties in different countries are different in what degree of left or right they are. The UK Green Party moving fairly far left, and the German Green Party moving fairly far right.

Daily reminder that there has never been a government more concerned with environmental protection then the Nazi regime of Germany.
Environmentalists are literally Hitler.

Jill Stein and her party are a bunch of new age SJW loons:

Ahh fucked up my green text, ohwell.

THEY DID IT THE ABSOLUTE

I'm tired of getting my hopes up, I'm gonna level with you OP I'd vote for Greens if I lived in America but I'm not gonna get hyped over it

Oh well, you take the rough with the smooth.

This. Holy hell, some of their views (specifically evolved plant crops and nuclear power) are downright comical.

I'd take you guys more seriously if you weren't such flagrant science denialist illiterates jacking off to the utopian vision of a risk-neutral world to where your fear of crossing the street justifies your never leaving the house. Better not drink any tap water too, we don't have any long term studies demonstrating it's safe (what are ethics and feasible study design hurr) and those that do are paid for by the industry and so theyre probably full of the sort of misconduct that can kill a scientists career that they just get asked to do as a matter of course, shelling out two bucks a bottle and forty more because you need it shipped to you is fine and totally justified by the risk. You're not the center of the universe or anything.

Or if there was the barest hint of substance to your anticapitalist rhetoric , or if your bizarre misuse of the precautionary principle wasn't inconsistent with struggling for revolution or even if you had the self-awareness to pick up on either.

You are just a pack of stumbling, screeching jokes

Filtered from "g m o"? Did we cut battle lines on this while I was hibernating? I would have said "transgenic" but none of the greenfag clique can be bothered to know what that means

like all the other wordfilters it's mostly meme.

also yes they have some really stupid environmentalist viewpoints. They really need to cut the nuclear power shit first and foremost, if anything.

Still better than the "Porky is great!", "Jesus said we should have a unregulated capitalism and shoot at brown people" and "The Free Market is my personal Lord and Savior" parties that constitute the other "options".

"Market socialism" is what destroyed communism and it will ruin many more lives if it isn't ruthlessly criticised and stamped out by communists. This new platform may have short-term benefits but it could also lead people in the totally wrong direction, I'm not excited about any of this.

Laissez-faire policy has only ever been pushed by intellectuals and even they probably don't believe half of the bullshit they write. If capitalism had actually ever stuck to a free market policy socialism would've won decades ago. This new platform may not be a good thing because, as I said above, this could turn potential radicals into lame reformists. This is why social-democrats and market socialists are so dangerous. Given the chance they'll betray the working class again, undermining our efforts every step of the way while being utterly convinced they're saving us.

...

...

This is a step in the right direction for the Greens. I'm glad that they're returning to their more radical roots (Bookchin did help found both the US and German Green parties after all iirc).

Ultimately I don't think this will lead to any direct change but it's comforting that the ideas of anti-capitalism are seeing some more acceptance in the US again.

Yeah, nice argument and all pal but to anyone with even a basic grasp of Soviet history it's obvious nothing at all could've been achieved with anarchist organisation. I know you'd like to believe the political parties that dominated the Provisional Government could simply be ignored and bypassed without effort but the working class wasn't so naive, and that's why they chose the Bolsheviks to represent them.

Yes, the issue was the so-called market socialism. That was what the anti-communist elements within the CPSU called their policies. One of the worst offenses of anarchism is that they have never recognised how easily bourgeois elements can creep into socialist organisations. It's especially stupefying considering kekalonia was infected similarly.

Yeah. Environmentalists have a bad habit of defending the Volkish nationalism that gave birth to the NSADP, too.

Literally "lesser of two evils."
Did you forget where you are right now fam

bad meme

What? Market socialism was only really tried by Yugoslavia and even then Yugoslavia has been criticized for the amount of worker self-management they actually allowed (apparently, not a lot).
Are you arguing for accelerationism?
What? This platform isn't socdem reform, it's actually supporting a radical reorganization of the economy. Yes, there's still a market, but you can't get rid of the market immediately without the infrastructure in place that allows for that switch to happen. Attempting to switch straight to a planned economy from a market economy would cause a massive crash.

This makes them more like a lesser good. Voting for a lesser evil is voting for a party for no other reason than to keep the reactionaries out of power. In Burgerland, that's the Democrats.

List Bolshevik platform positions from 1917

yep, lots of libertarians here freaking out that the Green Party is taking away their chance at getting government welfare if they get 5%+ or debate time if they get double digits

I'm interested in joining the greens now that they've taken an anti-capitalist stance, but like you I've read their pillars etc and there's some pretty disagreeable shit in there.

I plan to attend an event or two and get a feel for what they're like before making any further speculation, because similar to what is saying there's nothing that more closely matches what I'd be willing to get behind politically.

If what I see isn't a total shit show I'm considering joining and trying to push the local narrative toward focusing on the new anti-capitalist stance they've adopted. Maybe if the focus shifts to that nationwide the other elements can be overshadowed and dropped like the bad habits they are.

This isn't a real thing.
Pick one.

M8, there's a special circle of Dante's inferno where you two will vote Syriza and get screwed over for all eternity in some bizarrely ironic fashion.

Why can't the Greens just stick to what they know?

The fuck are you talking about?

Literally this.
If it was a valid solution to the problems of capitalism, we would have solved the problems of capitalism.
