Since the launch of Windows 10, there have been numerous complaints about ads in various forms. They appear in the Start menu, in the taskbar, in the Action Center, in Explorer, in the Ink Workspace, on the Lock Screen, in the Share tool, in the Windows Store and even in File Explorer.
Over the months since the Windows 10's launch, poor users have been gradually pushed harder and harder. It's as though Microsoft is trying to see just how much it can get away with before people reach breaking point. The company is utterly shameless, and it's high time more people spoke out about it.
I wonder how much marketshare they lose with this. 0.1%? Their sw compatibility always saved their ass no matter what they forced on users and developers.

This is what happens if software you use fails to provide four essential freedoms. If you haven't switched to free operating system yet you might want to do that as soon as possible. I'm using it as a test box / zoo animal for testing a backup software product my company sells. It's disgusting from a privacy and ad perspective, but with judicious use of network level and OS level filtering (pfSense blocking all outbound port 53 except to Google public DNS, GlassWire, etc.) it's got a shiny UI for retards that don't mess with settings. Edge is surprisingly competent for a Microshart browser.

It does mean that new OEMs without preexisting licensing contracts can offer a choice between Windows and ReactOS, and cut Microsoft out of the deal entirely. They can even brand ReactOS as "Microsoft® Windows™ compatible" for people who need help deciding. It'll be just like the DR-DOS days, much to Microsoft's asspain. OEM deals are the lifeblood of the Windows division, and the rise of non-Windows devices (iOS, Android, GNU/Linux, macOS, ChromeOS) is putting the hurt on them in a major way. They don't need to fall much below 80% market share for desktop/laptop form factor before the monopoly power starts going away.

You MIGHT have had a chance to do this back in the days of Windows 98 or even Windows XP, but not today. OEM desktop and laptop divisions have been hemorrhaging cash for the last few years up until the recent quarters. They would be taking a huge risk in dropping Windows for an unknown, untested operating system that may or may not support everything Windows runs. No one is willing to stick their neck out to find out either.

Microsoft really doesn't care about Windows on Desktops and Laptops anymore. They are well aware it's dying, they're just trying to find a way to make it profitable while it slowly loses market share. Most people these days go home and use an Android or iOS device, seldom touching a Windows Laptop/PC. The ones that do are punished with this new shit because Microsoft is trying to get more money from Windows since they are not making the same amount of money they used to.
This is actually a great time in Computing though, it means normies will fuck off of Computers into their wall gardened shit holes. Linux is going to see more adoption in coming years and they'll start to slowly cater to Linux users.
