idk, I think the long chinese dragon looks really cool and especially with the better animation due to the cheaper models the actions scenes with it look less static.
And seriously, a buff dragon looks ridiculous to me.
A bit of nostalgia there too since season 2 has the superior plot arc, one of the first I actually appreciated and noticed with better humor.
Besides they made the excuse that everyone was 2 years older now so puberty would've made them slinkier.
I'm not gonna lie, some designs went to utter shit, especially Jake's, but the new camera work was able to hide most of the bad changes.

That's the point, though. Jake's an American dragon, while his grandpa is a Chinese dragon. That's why they look so different. It makes Jake's dragon form less unique if he's just a face swap and color change of Lao Shi's. And American dragons are typically "buff".
