You are correct if enough of them opted out they could change the system, but they are just going to fuck themselves even more. Students are in a lose-lose situation. Universities are in a win-win because the industry is subsidized by government in area that is considered "critical" for economic health of the country and the individuals.

I have no idea, you'd have to analyze the fixed operational cost constraints of the universities and extrapolate the critical inflection points. 20%+ reduction in enrollment wouldn't be enough, they could lay off professors because that's an area where knobs can be twisted. You starting hitting near 50%, just a guess, and now colleges would start to shut down, debt obligations would eat up budgets, top-heavy administration would start getting laid off.

What the actual percentages are, would vary between schools. Larger the school, the lower the percentage to cause significant disruption.

btw, I would also argue students should just take the student loans and default on them. System is headed for economic collapse anyway, this would speed up the process. When the collapse happens, we're looking at a complete reset, so all debt will likely be eliminated.

I feel that as more people do that, the undergrad programs at universities are going to be negatively impacted, seeing as there is no need for paying undergrad profs if students are getting the credits at a CC.

I don't know if it would collapse the whole bubble entirely though, seeing as all that would do would make CCs the primary undergrad component of higher education. The costs of CC and regular uni and the reimbursement rates for shit like federal student aid would need to be calculated.

In my experience, CC was not nearly as pozzed as uni (it was essentially a bigger high school), so it could help.
