I can say from personally knowing Bob that he is telling the truth to the best of his ability. The most damning evidence of this is his lack of fear to say "I don't know". He has a book coming out soon so I can sometimes overhear him ironing out the details of his experience at S4. He avoids conjecture and even when it would be extremely convenient, doesn't provide information that he's not 100% confident in. It's been 30 years since he told his story and if he were lieing there would have been cracks or fault shown by now.
It is a bit defeating to tell people about him and when I do they just nod their head and say "Cool!" but not much else. Even though Bob owns and operates his own store he never uses his S4 story to profit (with exception to the signed UFO poster deal he did a year ago).
