No, what I'm arguing is that there are a lot of people who claim they are socialist when really they only care about identity politics, which have nothing to do with socialism, and if anything, are antithetical to socialist goals.

To make an analogy more like yours, it would be like if a bunch of people called themselves creationists but then never talked about the origins of humanity. Socialism is a philosophy about how to regulate the economy, yet many people who call themselves socialist in today's western society do not talk at all about the economy, and instead distract from it by only talking about identity politics.
