Year end and quarterly end adjustments can be non cash items like depreciation of buildings, equipment, etc, or drawing down unearned revenue. My guess is they were fucking around with year end adjustment numbers to make expenses look smaller than they were, lots of people do that.

The auditors looked at those adjustments and either did not find purchase orders, invoices, other claims for those amounts, or found entirely different amounts, either way the 6.5 trillion number is wrong. It's not the auditors job to find the correct amount. We may never know by how much to actual amount is wrong or missing.
