I haven't properly read through the three current books that just started. Basically they can be summed up with weird but interesting. Least according to everyone else in this thread and the past few ones.
This is garbage. Look at the tonal shift from a down-on-his-luck, also-ran that kept persevering to a power-tripping bully. Frank's story made him seem completely self-aware, and now he suddenly has no perspective. It's like they realized how sympathetic and human he was and now they gotta make him into a monster. The only difference between Frank and a hero is authorial fiat.

Honestly I thought they were setting him up to be a villain. Or at least the type that is a relatable loser and snaps and goes on a killing spree.
I mean, I knew he would be the antagonist (he even made a "pact" with this obviously shady character), but I think they created a concept for him and didn't realize how compelling it was until they had already committed to it. Note the oath Frank recites. It's painfully heavy-handed. It's pretty clear that the writer just wants to convey "bad guy," rather than keep up a nuanced portrayal of Frank.
If miracles are real, then Jessica being a lantern will be a mistake (that won't be corrected, obviously), Volthoom will have legitimate grievances that lead to real reflection, and Frank will keep some slight amount of power and become a minor recurring hero. However, the best we can realistically hope for is an ending where he "realizes the error of his ways" and turns on Volthoom (who will be mad for some petty reason, or because someone wouldn't let be selfish/tyrannical), but will probably dei in the process.
