Since Kickbutt Torrents died I started using torrentproject.se but now all torrents/magnets they host seem to be stale (0 seeders when I give them to Deluge), so their seed counts might be horribly outdated.
Is torrenting dead?

On any searx instance you can always go to PREFERENCES -> ENGINES, and select FILES to see what engines they have for searching files. Many have several for torrent sites and you can also see what their shortcuts are and if they are enabled or not.

I use torrentproject.se all the time. I don't know (and probably don't want to know) what you're searching for where you're not getting downloads, but I never have a problem with finding seeds.
Mainly, I stick with rarbg.com these days. They get new releases fast. Their TV section is huge and supported by at least a couple of groups. But there's also limetorrents, extratorrent, eztv, torlock, and bitsnoop.
But to directly answer your question:
I grab what I can grab where I can find it. Usually, I search for something on tp.se, and if it happens to be one of those ones where there are no seeders - or only a couple and you can't connect to anyone - I'll just google/bing the hash for the torrent and keep clicking magnet links (or dl-ing torrent files, for those sites that still haven't stepped into the 2010s) until it takes off. That works for me 95% of the time.

I2P has native UDP, built in support for darknet-only anonymous torrenting, and is good for things like IRC.
I2P is meant to be true darknet, not a proxy to the outside world. whereas Tor is meant to be an anonymous proxy for the clearnet with darknet capability tacked on the side later in its development rather than being an original design goal.
That's the point of zeronet. Its amicable to search engines and can link directly to IPFS files.
