Essentially there is a distinction in the Hebrew manuscripts between "Man" who were created on the sixth day and "The Man" Adam who was created on the eighth day.

Trusty ol' google translate has בֶּן אָדָם as one of the words for "man" and says it is "mortal" "human being" etc rather than "person" "individual" "humanity" "mankind".
