Joking aside and going straight to the point, by far the weakest point of the movie was the casting, and Owen takes the price as its shining example
He was not horrible in it, he was simply non-existant

He fit the film imo but I can definitely see how you could think that. The purposefully bleak nature doesnt help him. Is this due to the direction though? Apparently Cuaron wanted Watson for the role of the pregnant chick after doing Prisoner of Azkaban. Which I actually think would have made the film breathe a bit easier.

In context, the man had a good job, he merely survived a bombing and his ex-wife is a bombshell
She was pretty strong, stoic and certainly good looking, while he was a fucking mess, even when all circumstances were disturbingly in his favour, including Batman's bootlicker
His personality, context and experience were very mismatched towards his 2 co-stars, who were themselves also somewhat unrealistic in the context where no old man is around and all women look ravished
He seems to be forced into action and quite cowardly in plenty of times, along with being highly apathetic, this can be justfied in the world of misery this movie takes place, that is unless we forget the pleasures he enjoys/enjoyed. No charisma nor sympathy for this scumbag, not even when he realizes he is a major factor in the world by being the escort of a pregnant nigress
The movie certainly has a lot of heeb influence, from his cousin explaining Guernica over Pieta, to the nihilism, to the cradle of civilization being a nigger in the middle of Brita- forget it, that sounds ok.

But suddenly the man at the last part of the movie survives 5 rifle gunshot wounds, even when he described himself as a smoker/coffee man, while running like a crazed SOB, ignoring all the blasts and battles, deleting all his traits, which is not bad, but seems extremely cheap and unconvincing taking into account his character progress, which includes not even flinching when they kill his old pal or even his waifu, just opening his mouth and widening his eyes by a small fraction, while speaking clearly and calm no matter the situation

Man is an example of shit acting or decent acting very badly performed in its context, seeing the collaborated to redefine the role, i bet it's the first one to hide his shortcomings, as seen too in Shoot Em Up, Pink Panther and Sin City, without bringing his "job" in Lorna Doone. Disgraceful, really, coming from a country that gave us Postlethwaite, Day-Lewis, Dalton, Bane, Shaw, Scofield, Brosnan, Bean…

He really didn't show much character at all. Which seems to be his schitck. So either it works or it doesnt.

It might be, a self-insert or so to say. That might work out if the first scene of the movie wasn't a mood breaker, because it forces the audience not to a personality but to an attitude.
The man had a very perplexing attitude towards it, instead of being cheerful he dodged it, sad that he wishes he would've died there or paranoid about his environment, the fuckfaced dog seems to be apathetic and if anything angry because everyone is talking about the youngest man in the world who died in the incident
Funny, if anything he seems envious of his attention, nailing a trait closely related to egoistical tendencies towards events, an attention whore, which makes it highly unlikeable he ran cowardly from early fights but not in the final one, by time he seemed to find it unwinnable in the bus ride sequence

The character is so badly executed, like Cuaron's mexican films
