Express leftist ideas before age 14

"ew…"

So, Holla Forums how old are you? 25 here.

18. I'm currently getting told by 25 year olds how I'll "grow out of it once I get out into the real world" and become a patriotic Republican like them.

28

Still getting told that I'll "grow out of it" as well.

30.
I've long stopped expressing them to normies.

Really? I assumed that 25 was still too young to go full republican.

From college to marriage I usually expect centrist liberalism from people.

Back in my university days, most people well already full apolitical/right-wing.

They're the "hip libertarian republicans". Basically, asshats who boast about how "mature" they are for their age by seeing past "liberal lies" before spouting off some bullshit about praxology

I'm 24
Who else drifted here from lolbertianism?

27. I'm an artist for a living and live in a shitty poor red state so I'm used to getting laughed at.

Was talking about reading books about Socialism the other day at a family norm gathering, and got the "do ho ho that makes me so nostalgic for my younger days" from multiple people. Topped off with a perfect "they've already tried it, it doesn't work".

...

26, and I'm getting really tired of this shit

Old nigga, 44…

no/diff.

i get more radical everyday

do you have an organization?

TO EVERYONE ELSE ITT: DO YOU HAVE AN ORGANIZATION?

How do you guys feel like having no brains?

Note: I hate how many of those use "head". How much head to you need in order to know that the body-related metonym for intelligence is "brains"?

What shit? Leftism?

24

Started out as a kinda socially conservative Democrat, read about George Orwell and Animal Farm, became interested in a meme definition of socialism, only increased after reading Brave New World, sometime between senior year of HS and my second year of college I became an actual socialist, took an intro to poli sci class and gained more sympathy for anarchism.

I hate my life and wish I had the courage to kill myself.

Not leftism, capitalist culture, reactionary arguments, etc. And I'm not a leftist, I'm a communist.

When I was young enough to get "I was a socialist at your age too" I used to ask what made them grow out of it and oh boy, the answers were priceless.

...

30. Just started getting to know the local communist party. Among normal people I try to explain my ideas without using "commie lingo".

I wish I could join one but there's not one to join in my area.

Spoken like a true slave.

20 going on for 21.

Put up posters about a reading club, develop consciousness slowly, decide on which org to join with the group, the org will send help and people. Or go the union way.

22

Was always kind of a liberal because I lacked any knowledge of political theory. Reading up on the far left was pretty enlightening. I also pity stormkids a lot more than I used to despise them but now I can't stand lolberts

It's kind of depressing how a Burmese shitposting telegraph is more intellectually sound than most American politics

Hah, that sounds juicy, I'll try it next time. What are some of the things people said?

Early 20s.

I keep my politics to myself IRL, but sometimes an inkling of it may leak out whenever I talk to someone about some neat things available in open-source technology and how automation is replacing many human workers and will cause unemployment from one occupation to another.

Also I used to be sympathetic to lolbertarianism simply due to the fact it was the only visible anti-war ideology in 'Murica and they basically said "fuck you" to the utterly trivial issues like gay marriage, drugs, feminism and so on. The thing is I just couldn't fully blindly accept the "big government is bad" and "free market will fix it" concepts. I really can't accept that "the market" is the pinnacle of human civilization. Now I realize lolbertarianism is a simple-minded cult for capitalism.

Turned 41 yesterday lol. I can understand the whole leftist-until-youre 30 thing. I suppose after a certain point if you've not had a great understanding of socialism and whatnot, you get caught up with daily life, spouses, gf/bfs, kids, bills etc. and eventually you drop your radicalism because you can't fit it into your life anymore.

21, and dont let anyone undermine your spirit or your will to change the world; because then you become part of the problem.

The thing to not be an obnixious lifestylist idiot, but to be a proper member of the labour movement, to be politically active and to act in your enviroment, trying as much as you can to change your surroundings; your workplace, your home, your family, your friends. Thats the key.

To unionize your workplace is far more valuable that all the protest you could go in your lifetime, to gwt people into the Party is the better than all the Jacobin posts you could ever share on Facebook.

Im in a party and in a students union, its very important to be organized, in the end is the onñy thing we have.

18.

So far the first two seems pretty accurate. I'm about to go to uni so I will have to see if that one holds true as well.

Workplace or student union?

Either way I'm terrified.

24.

No

25

I'm only getting more radical. I've come a long way from my peaceful anarchic ways. Divine violence when?

18

AW confirmed for satan

So many. It seems like probably most of us came here from libertarianism, in name only or otherwise, and either never fully accepted or eventually rejected its anarchocapitalist elements.
Also 16 year old Puerto Rican. People mostly think it's cute but only one person has had the nerve to straight up tell me its wrong, and that only happened because I made an off hand comment about Bernie Sanders.

24. Drifted to Keynesian liberal to soc dem to socialist with anarchist sympathies. Not sure when I'll lose my head.

There's a couple in my city. I want to join one but my social anxiety and depression got me all fucked up.

Just turned 19

Been vaguely "leftist" since always, became "radical" abt 5 years ago (left-Social Democracy / libertarian "socialism"), left pseudoleftism to become commie a little under two years ago.

"Libertarian "socialism""? Really?

Some say people get conservative
The older that they age
They say that being radical Is just a youthful stage
But the finest communist I've known
Lived to 95
And he spent his whole life fighting
For humanity to thrive

Well it just depends on what you mean by conservative. I mean, I have some sympathies with cultural conservatism as I do with cultural liberalism. I don't go out trying the new "hot" thing when I'm okay where I'm at and I like sticking to traditional practices. However, I'm completely against social conservatism because I don't think any organized body should be prescribing any set of moral behavior. This has the ability to marginalize different groups of people and impede liberty. Freedom to do whatever you want that doesn't oppress others is how society should be but virtue is in what you actually do. I'm a communist of course.

23. Have been lefty since I was seventeen or so. Not likely to change any time soon.

You wouldn't know about that, would you.

Dam son

...

26. Was a socdem from 18 to 24 then realised that it's shit and we need a revolution and started reading theory.

I'm in a party, only joined around November though.

26 in two months

34. Finally able to put words to my political ideals in the past couple of years.

It's almost like the system is designed to keep you in line, or just happens to be a nice side effect.

20 in 3 months. Still a member of the communist youth of my country, but I've only really started to understand theory and the importance of struggle the last year and a half or so, after leaving it. I'll be back soon, though.

But you would still have no heart because you aren't a socialist, you would have a head. And you became a socialist while the head ws still intact. Why would it be so wrong to follow these earlier instincts?

Also, half the motherfuckers who say this aren't socialists ever, so do they not have hearts?

27
rapidly approaching wizarding age

Those that "grew out of" socialism were likely never meaningfully socialist to begin with. Maybe they went to some protests agaist corporations to feel good about themselves or got vaguely involved with some org one summer weekend but none of them will have actually sat down and actually considered the theory .
I wouldn't be surprised if even wikipedia-level theory is further than most of them go.

what the fuck is up with my formatting

That's where I see myself going. How do i deal with it, seeing as I can't wrap my mind around the waifu train.

You and me, except i'm gay and live in Canada.

I kinda agree with you and I made a similar point in one of my (many) threads that died with 0 replies.

When you have a conversation about politics with 99% of these people, it becomes pretty clear that they have very little understanding of socialist theory. Sure, you have the eventual Burnham or Eastman, but most of them don't really seem to have ever bothered with more than the introductory material, if that.

IMO, I think it's all about wanting to be accepted. Many people go to college and are, at an young age, thrown into a traditionally progressive milieu (particularly if it's a humanities or arts major, or if it's in a major city, and so on) and just learn what to parrot in order to please everybody.

Once they leave and enter the corporate world or public service, it's a different type of person they have to please, and their views change accordingly.

My introduction to Socialism was entirelly through theory and reading, and there was never social pressure, so I hope I will not be one of those people that become cynical with age.

23

I'm in the closet to most of my family but just by virtue of being a "liberal" (barf) they give me shit about inexperience. They're all boomers and have no concept of a world without an easy-entry middle class.

Anyone bothered by people going on about their "radical past" should read this btw

Context: reply to generic "you'll grow out of it" article

...

...

In which case a lot of Holla Forums is definitely in the danger zone.

18. I intend to go into activism and I'm not looking forward to aging as a leftist as it becomes increasingly socially unacceptable. Someone's gotta do it though.

Since others were opining, my political evolution has been: ultra Republican like my family minus the Evangelicalism (??-10), "libertarian" (10-13), transitional state of confusion and political identity crisis, SJW demsoc (14-16), anarcho-gommie (17-present). Maybe I'll become a tankie next, or even a liberal.

23 yo.

My mom introduced me to leftist through his explicit appraisal of Castro, Guevara, Velasco and her militant past.

Now she frowns upon my even more radical approach (since she became a public servant, she became a socdem). Among the family, we are the "commies", my mom, my sister and me.

*introduced me to leftism

*her explicit

23

I don't plan living long enough to grow out of it

16 years old.

Been leftist my whole life ever since I was interested in politics at 8 years old. Got more radical the older I got.

Everyone at school is too retarded to understand, or I don't want to by accident conflict with my teachers. I just hide behind 100 layers of irony when around students, I might actually express some leftist ideas subtly that I actually believe, but will counter with other subtle political ideas to get me back to the overton window. I don't know if it's working, because by default people think I am a communist because I have immigrant parents from former Soviet Union. They're leftist too, but none of my friends know. Except one close friend does but that is because I knew him for a long time, but his mouth is shut. I know there is leftists in my school, but most are liberals or memeing. I do suspect some that are serious. Most people's understanding of politics is our Prime Minister and Donald Trump memes/he's racist here.

20

19. I tend to not discuss things in public, though; my thoughts are better kept in marginalia and essays.

Your parents are leftist despite being immigrants from the Soviet Union? That's sort of rare as far as I know. Could you describe their beliefs a little bit if you can?

They left after the fall of the Soviet Union because it was very shitty. They prefered to live where there was security of employement and free or heavily subsidied necessities in the Soviet Union than the literal disaster, running down of society and poor living conditions that happened after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Their political views aren't as advanced as mine, but they're pretty leftist.

32 here.
I was first introduced to leftist ideas when I got involved in IVAW. Before my enlistment, I was an avowed conservative and Republican. During my enlistment, I became more liberal and sympthetic to the Democrats. After my enlistment, I was introduced to Socialist ideals.

Honestly, I don't really know.
I've reached a point where I'm not real desperate about losing it anymore.
Maybe I should be, but the relationship thing is a pain in the ass, and Sex without love is meaningless to me. I'll just jerk myself off, if that's the case.
Besides, I'm reaching the point where I see my friends getting married and having kids, and It actually looks like more work than it's worth. It's nice not being responsible to anyone other than yourself. If I get desperate enough, I might be able to go to bar and hookup for a one nightstand. I've almost had that happen a couple times, but blew it because I'm a prude who doesn't like to sleep with girls who might be drunk.

I'll take your virginity, comrade. if you live close to me or will be around Vegas anytime soon.

am girl, about a 7/10.

nice effort. You're the age of my younger brother

t. oldest of oldfags

I live in Michigan, sadly.
It's a shame, because I've always wanted to go to Vegas.
Thanks anyway.
i'd be happy to exchange emails, though.

Nigga, that's only like a 30 hour drive.

good, comrade

why not?

write all of them an email. that's a good way to warm up and find the most suiting group for you

how is it so far?

when? any organizations in your area?

sure, [email protected]/* */

I like your email, just saying.

I'll be 19 in a couple weeks.

The newfags, yes, the old core, maybe somewhat less.

Do you have a PGP key, qt?

Mine is

One of what?

I'm 24. I've been a leftist my whole life, and I was raised as a leftist.

As in the e-mail belonging to the person who posted that e-mail.

Judging by /r9k/ being a classcuck seems more related to how fucked you are than age.
Some poeple apply greater degrees of delusion to it and end up with different beliefs methinks.

23 in two weeks.

What the fuck is going on ITT?

That's pretty much how it was for, except you did it earlier than I did.

That's redundant

socialist fuck party

What do you exactly mean by "danger zone"?

damn
I made the mistake of falling for the STEM meme, so I've been going to a technical school. People here have no fucking self-awareness, are completely engulfed in ideology, or apolitical.
Their fright from discussing anything related to muh privilege (Class, race, gender, anything) or politics has made me more open to idpol, if only just to combat the amount of people who really just don't give a shit about other people as long as they can get some of that comfortable engineering employment, and some fun pastimes.

Like, every single time somebody would point out some of their shitty upper-middle class fascist bullshit, there'd just be an awkward silence, and then "Well yeah, we can all see why somebody would think that".

To call for the overthrow of the existing order

May seem a terrible thing

But what exists is no order.

To seek refuge in violence

May seem evil.

But what is constantly at work is violence

And there is nothing special about it.

Communism is not the extreme outlier

That only in a small part can be realized,

and until it is not completely realized,

The situation is unbearable

Even for someone who is insensitive.

Communism is really the most minimal demand

What is nearest, reasonable, the middle term.

Whoever is opposed to it is not someone who thinks otherwise

It is someone who does not think or who thinks only about himself

It is an enemy of the human species who,

Terrible

Evil

Insensitive

And, in particular,

Wanting the most extreme, realized even in the tiniest part,

Plunges all humankind into destruction.

Bertolt Brecht, 1932

for fucks sake i keep messing up my posts, forgot title:
Communism is the middle term

It's the best kind, yo.

I'm intending on doing STEMs although I have no illusions of what I'm in for.

...

lol
where from?

two communist wizards whining about tfw no gf
t. one of said wizards

19 and feeling more alone everyday. I think that at this point I have already gained a political view that estranges me from all of humanity, by age 20 I'll become some ascended being that is completely alien to everything.

There is no market socialist flag and the closest thing is Yugoslavia flag, which I'm sympathetic, besides common ideas, because Velasco attempted to adapt the yugoslav model to Peru. But I aim to a "more free market" approach, so I stay with this one (albeit, I preferred the red and black one, because made me feel that my marxist background was present)

From the classcucked lands of Peru.

And yes, I'm in about three organizations. A students organization, a grassroots "right to the city" approach organization and academic organization.

21.

Declared that I was a communist when I was 12 and have only become more entrenched since then.

...

I'm a socialist of the Proudhonian variety but certainly not a leftist i either don't care "progressive" societal causes or oppose them.

This is so fucking true. I fell for the STEM meme too. People are just apathetic.

It makes me want to agitate them so bad, how even their surplus is being taken, how corporate greed is fucking up IT… Socialism and IT could be a combination that could truly free the masses.

20.

I actually got into it in sixth grade, then abandoned it in high school. Just got back into it.

19. I'm in STEM but I go to one of the more historically left American lib-arts colleges. It's complete shit though cos everyone's so into idpol and everyone's like "phuc capitulationisms" but it's all just one big ironic meme cos many people have bourgeois parents here (my parents are upper-middle but not solely bourgeois).

Was an anarchist since I was 11, I think cos I am eternally angst, angry, and hating of everyone and everything and myself. Now just solidifying my stance the worse life gets.

I tried to talk to my parents about it but they said they would turn me in if I did anything that even remotely looked political.

The important part: did things end well? Did anyone score? Oh I hope someone scored!

25. Read Emma Goldman around age 15 and now I'm more radical than ever.

I don't know of any in the area, don't know how to find them

25. I live in a college town rn, so I'm pretty insulated from most of this specific type of faggotry. I'm sure I'll get plenty of the "Why haven't you grown out of this yet?" at the next family gathering though.

Take it easy comrade.

if you can't find another leftist you aren't looking hard enough

Why do Liberals Hate Violence?? It's Natural..

Any other great suggestions?

Quit being pedantic. Everyone knows the phrase "use your head". Also "use your brains" sounds retarded. Fuck linguistic prescriptivism honestly.

Those people not only don't know how language works, but they don't even know how to make an English sentence which sounds decent, which is what they're supposed to be good at. Apparently you can't say "do good", you always have to say "do well" because "good" can't be an adjective AND an adverb.

the big Other doesn't give a shit about your boring life

It's the principle of it, man. If you can't stand for something you believe in, then what do you have that can't be taken from you?

20.
Working class family so they mostly agree with me and I've only made them more lefty. My dad on the other hand won't take me serious (muh human nature).

But user, I live in mainland europe.
Socialism is a normal political stance here.

So your principle is not leaving the house, staying away from comrades and organizations, and being an internet lefty?
solid, brah

15

15

Please explain how not voluntarily allowing a private company and all the governments it is in bed with to slither up your ass means never leaving the house.

42 year old here. Back in my 20's I wrote some detailed theory including how to potentially sell the idea of worker ownership to normal classcucked people. A decade ago I put this to the test and ran for congress, got 8% of the vote as an independent (still decent for the time), got depressed and fled America giving up all hope for leftism in that country. I live in Italy now and Holla Forums is pretty much the only thing that's preventing me from killing myself now.

Dude, take it easy. There are still good things in this world. There are still nice things to see and experience.

You can be the papa bear of Holla Forums :)

What's it like in your part of Italy?

Show us ur theory ;) ;) ;)

Party is pretty alright. Very small but far better than any of my other options. Members are pretty active and opposed to identity politics, I just need to get more active myself.

23

Being a Medfag is suffering, it's like Sartre's Waiter but with doctors instead over and over again. Also most people for some reason really buy into that being pretty bourgeoisie meme, even though this is a country where only few of us will end up in the private sector with high porkydollar income.

I guess I have some punks at gigs here to talk to about things sometimes, but they really haven't read shit and are heavily into idpol, animal rights and all kinds of boring.

where r u situated comrade
there's some good stuff in primary care going on here where I live.
There's a rise in community health centres where people don't need to pay anything, and it has good psych+ nurse programs alongside the general GP practice. Although they're classified as nonprofis, they're run pretty democratically, which is cool.

Sweden

There's some promise here tbh, because medical personnel (especially nurses but it's starting to affect the whole system more and more) is heavily overworked & underfunded, so there should be opportunities to agitate and organize at my future workplace(s) in a couple years when I'm finally done with my studies.

Do you have something to read about the inherent ideology in STEM which is not POMO faggotry?

t. another STEM-fag who is far left of his STEM colleagues but also quite irritated by the liberal idpol crap of the humanityfags here

24 here
been a leftist since I realized my family was poor and understood the concept of politics. I shift back and forth from marxism since I have some philosophical problems with dialectics but radicalism doesn't wane, if anything in my case the contrary is true, the older you get the more you realize classism is very real.

Why don't you try to read to read Hudson's chapter on "The Use and Abuse of Mathematics Economics" in his book The Bubble And Beyond. It has an interesting discussion on how the type of mathematics used and the assumptions built into academic mathematical economic models hide real world economic problems?

Try Gramsci's relevant writings on education, technical education and so on.

Some Maoist Critiques of capitalist technocratic ideology are interesting if not sufficient. I would look at the chapters on science and education in Henry Park's The Political Economy of Counter-Revolution in China and The Capitalist Roaders are Still on The Capitalist Road

Idk what else fam, Engels books on The Dialectics of Nature and Anti-Duhring are good critiques of" bourgeois science" which Marx and Engels criticized as "Mechanical Materialism". Biologist Richard Levins and Althusser have good writings on dialectics and science too.

26.
The public ability to talk about my one joy in life was taken from me long ago.

wow, thanks comr8. It's not the first time that some recommends me reading Anti-Dühring. I'll definitely put it on the reading list!

21. I was a fox news watching conservative in middle school and high school who thought that Obama was an Islamic communist from Kenya, got turned off from the Republicans in 2012 because Mitt Romney was such a piece of shit, spent four years actively avoiding politics, went through a short Holla Forums phase, and found this place six months ago, which has made me an entry level gommie.

do you unironically support human sacrifice or are just being an edgelord?
