So we all know about uncanny valley by now, and how insanely creepy these not-quite-lifelike robots look. In animation, there have been two ways we have managed to stay out of the valley:
Basically, make your model appear almost indistinguishable from a human.
Think anime girls. Their facial proportions don't look human at all yet they are far more fappable than most anatomically accurat 3D renderings.

Now, I get why the obvious first inclination in sexbots is the former. But as you can see, we aren't very good at it. Those robots look like they're starting to climb out of the valley but they're still far from something I'd like to fuck.

Fluid movements aren't really a problem for us.
As far as AI goes, you don't need them to be that complex unless you want it to be more of a companion bot. Give it a cortana-like chat sequence and, when sex is initiated, let it go into "fuck mode" where it has a few predefined sex positions/maneuvers. The hard part is really penis identification but with a capacitative sensor in the erogenous areas you can have it detect/react to any stimulation of those areas.

1) Feminist attempts to fight robo-waifus turn physical. This would overall mean a more overt matriarchy than we already have now, where men are not only treated as second class citizens with less rights (which is how they're already treated in actual legal terms), but they would have to come right out and admit it, as their rule would have to become outright dystopic.

They'd better hope they get at this fast, or else we'll have enough robo-waifus to fight back with cybernetic force.

2) Probably the more likely option is that the propagation of robo-waifus can't be stopped. All that can be done is that with more competition for men, women will have to stop the artificial scarcity that they pretend to have in our society, and start treating men as equals instead of subhuman scum as they are treated now. This will maybe be enough to win over some men back from the robo-waifus. Other women might try to be more old school idealistic, but I don't know how well that will work, since a robo-waifu is going to be better at all those things. Women will have to play up their actual humanity, and that means acknowledging men's humanity, which will still be a step forward.

Now, there's the other idea, of artificial wombs. I don't know about this. This is a legitimate issue. Obviously, you want the thing to be as light as possible and the heaviest part of just about any robot is the power supply. I personally would go for even weight distribution. Perhaps make the spine out of lithium ion cells since that's a part that's going to need to be rigid anyway. though this my be dangerous as the spine is where a lot of the force of fucking the thing is going to be focused. Too much vibration may blow out a cell and cause a real nasty fire, one which adding water to will only make more vigorous.

Next best thing would probly be inside the rib cage and hips. Lots of space there for shock absorption, but placing the power supply in the hips may take up too much room to fit any machinery which you'd want for more pleasurable fuckability. Focusing ALL the power supply in the chest might make it top heavy though which makes for more awkward mobility and fucking. If you'd be fine with a robot with thunder thighs, that would be a great place for the battery pack. the weight being focused that low will make it quite stable and very easy to fuck. But then you've got thunder thighs to deal with.

Hips and shoulders will need 2 axes of motion so it will be a bit more difficult. Though you probly can accomplish it just fine with 2 motors each and a gear assembly.

All of these are pretty lightweight so there's really no benefit to having them in the torso.

Another method is something like vid related (skip to about 3:00 if you don't care for the bs). Haven't seen something like this used in any practical application but it's pretty obvious why you might want something like this. The problem, though, is it requires a hydraulic or pneumatic system. So you'll need a air condenser which adds more weight and more power consumption.

Not as big a problem as you might think. DC motors don't get that hot unless you keep them in constant motion for an extended period of time. The only places you'll really need it are the processor, voltage regulators, and a motor placed in the pussy if such a jerking motion is desired (because this is the only motor I'd expect to be having a very long operating time). If the framework is sufficiently thermally conductive you can just attach the hot parts to the chassis and use something like this (great idea btw) to radiate heat from one particular spot.
Another potential place to dump some of the heat is in the vaginal/anal/oral lubricants. You want those to be nice and cozy around your dick.

Actually, /robowaifu/ is about creating real gynoid companions, not just sex dolls user. OTOH, I think the engineering challenge of creating a female robot that could vigorously fuck user and not fall apart would be as challenging in several ways as would be creating a sports robot for instance. Motors aren't generally that heavy. If you wan't a big, beefy 3 phase AC motor capable of ripping your head off that's another issue. But if you want something capable of riding your dick, cleaning the house, and making dinner, a couple DC motors will do you good. You might want to consider a few worm drives as those will allow the limb to lock in place. They won't be able to lift beyond their torque capabilities but they will not move from where they are unless the motor moves or you manage to break the gear assembly.

How to load the lubes, how to clean it's containment and feedlines and other general maintenance and utility choices. a couple guise and me on another board about general-robot stuff have casually talked about the problems of theoretically building sexbots. all three of us know a lot about machining/programming/electronics.

the biggest problem I see with what most guys imagine, is if you have a person-shaped thing that you want to be able to walk around, keeping it warm takes up a pretty big amount of power alone. At least 100 watts continuous, maybe more.

a second problem is building joints that are reasonably powerful and durable. The stuff like string drives and air bladders works, but doesn't last very long before failing. it isn't practical.

a third problem is having smooth skin surfaces that are soft but that can still withstand rough use/damage. those full-silicone dolls get torn up pretty easily, and repairing damage is time-consuming and often leaves scars. having a robot that can heal or fix itself is still a long ways off.

if you leave the idea of "a person-shaped thing that can walk around on its own" then some of these problems get a lot easier.

The sexual lubes are a pretty simple matter:
compartment opens to hold a pouch of sex lube, from there a set of pumps forces the lube into tubes which run to mouth, vag, and ass (maybe nips too if you're into lactation).

the industrial lubricants will probly be a bunch of spaghetti running from the containment vessel to the necessary components. This will occasionally need to be drained and run through a filter (a fairly simple task to automate, maybe make it part of the robot's sleep cycle).

The sex lube will probly need to be changed much more often than the industrial lube and that lube will need to be changed a bit more often than the filter.

A lot of these components will heat themselves up (granted, this is the result of wasted power). this heat will get dumped throughout the chassis if you make it out of thermally conductive material.

Hell, a single switching MOSFET used for PWM will dump so much heat into the heat sink it will be uncomfortable to touch.

If they can do that well enough, fine, but the producers need to realize that people will be very happy with robots that look like robots. As long as it's not uncanny, it's fine, and by making them look unrealistic on purpose, you avoid that pitfall.

If the vagina is the primary one being used, it can be almost like urinating. As a bonus, you can use this water to hold heat and expel that heat with the urine. Not the route I'd personally go down. Every time the tank is used it will lose some pressure, getting gradually weaker until the tank empties (which will be sooner than you might think). Also, if you've ever dealt with pressurized gas tanks of any sort, that shit basically flash freezes the air around it upon release. Going straight from high to low pressure results in a pretty sharp temperature differential. This has the tendency to damage the tubing over time.

With an air compressor, you have as much air as your batteries have the energy to compress. You can store it at a much lower pressure as you're not using that pressure to store all the gas you need. You just need to pressurize it enough to actuate the muscles which will have a much lower temperature gradient and therefore less freezing damage to the tubing. But air compressors are loud and annoying so go figure.
