I've been accused of having "broken wing syndrome" Since I was little, I've always taken in strays and injured animals and tried to nurse them back to health. Animals have always liked and trusted me, particularly cats and dogs. I remember once having a conversation with my brother, upset about some neighbors that were neglecting their dogs, and my brother (who himself is Mexican, loves dogs and at one point actually considered moving to Paraguay on the basis that the culture there loved and respected dogs) asked my point blank "Are your neighbors Mexican?" "Well, yeah." "Well that's your problem man, most Mexicans treat their dogs like shit."

When I moved into my current apartment which is situated in front of a junkyard, I noted they had four dogs, three huskies and a lab. They would cry sometimes, and their care was often… lackluster. The landlords offered to let me feed and walk them so they would be less stir-crazy, because often when they'd get loose they'd turn up on my porch, and I quickly developed a good rapport with them. I jumped at the chance, and I took them on tons of walks and my own health improved quite a bit as a result.

Then about a year ago the lab just went missing. And for two months I communicated this to each of them (the landlord, her son, the husband) and each seemed apathetic to her being missing. So, I let it go. A few months ago they decided it was cruel keeping them on tethers (they used to be kept in a kennel, but they were too smart and dug a ton of holes to get out and tore straight through the door.)

For the last month the male (pictured) has been missing. I just found out yesterday from one of the workers that he's dead. They'd claimed they didn't know where he was, I guess not wanting to upset me since I'd grown pretty attached to him and he'd become very tame with me (they claim he'd killed other dogs in the past, but he was a sweety with mine, and he liked laying next to me and me rubbing his belly.)

So from four the pack is down to two huskies left. Seeing as they aren't feeding them terribly well and don't seem to care if they go missing, I was debating, should I just take them with me when I move out?
