Videos playing as a stream in Linux Mint Firefox

Videos playing as a stream in Linux Mint Firefox.

What is up with this? Pic related, whenever I try to play a video in Holla Forums, and only Holla Forums, the time bar is stuck all the way to the right until the end when it loops back and starts anew.

This doesn't happen on other boards.

Could the mods undo whatever setting change made this happen?

Has anyone else had this problem?

mp4s don't work for me for whatever reason

Same thing happens for me.

have been getting the same thing for a few days
what is going on?

This has been a bug on some boards for quite a while, Holla Forums and Holla Forums specifically are the biggest examples.

i get the same shit on pale moon and on other imageboards

Yes, I see the same thing.

I've been getting that with Icecat. Sometimes viewing webm's will kill my browser's internet connection until I restart it too.

SOMEONE MUST FIX IT

...

Happening on windows too. I thought it was just me.

Bump so mods see this.

yeah I thought it was just my firefox being fucky–same thing here on windows.

I get the same thing. I use firefox (pls no bully).

This happens for me too. I'm on palemoon in windows 7.

This started around a week ago

same thing for me on both manjaro and arch

You should check your codecs because I don't have any issues with .mp4

Using Mint, same thing.

I don't think it's a Mint thing because it firsts started on Holla Forums then transferred to Holla Forums.

Then .mp4 started giving "unsupported format" or whatever all together.

i have the same exact bug.

Bump

FIX YOUR SHIT

Oh yeah, there's no issue however when using jewgle chrome
only happens on firecocks so far

Same thing happening for me. It just started doing it a couple days ago.

Wew.

Another Mintfag here confirming I have the same problem. It's annoying as fug.

I should note that I'm using (((windows 8))) and not linux.

Also lots of mintfags here I see.

Here's a fresh poll on OS, you can add your own answers.

poal.me/74c4ui

Same thing happens on Firefox, Windows 7.

This has been going on for months.

8ch specific issue

So many mint bros in this thread.

Can't tell if this is pro-trump or anti-trump but I love it anyway.

I only noticed it the other night.

Are mods doing it on purpose so we have to use jewgle chrome or IE?

Ubuntu 14.04 I'm seeing it too.

Having this problem on CentOS 7 with firefox ESR as well.

You know they work with microsoft, right? It also sends your data exactly just like w10 does.

Happens to me too, Windows 7 user Firefox.

I've been getting the same problem on Windows + Firefox.

Might want to make this thread on >>>/sudo/

its probably a firefox bug and not the site

it only started happening after upgrading to 48.0 (I THINK)

I'm on Firefox 47 and it happens. It's been going on at least a week, but I never cared.

I'm on 46.

Bump so the mods see it.

Having the same thing. Firefox on Windows.
CODEMONKEY FIX YOUR SHIT

I just tried Chrome on OSX, even that is messed up. You can't seek in videos at all and they don't loop (yes, they are set to loop. I checked).

Pic related, it's a webm not looping.

Also, it just took me 20 minutes to get past the captcha. Waiting for socket bullshit. Is the 8ch server being attacked? Pages load fine, but they're served up by cloudfair or something, right?

I have the same issue, but they work fine for me.
Just save them if you really have issues, its not like 8mb is alot.

\/\/!u|)0z3 7 sp1 64bit using FF or Pale moon.

Test video.

Of course they work if you save them. VLC isn't fucked, Holla Forums is.

same

My point is they work fine for me. Hes just butthurt because his shits crap :D

Same problem here for webms. this only started happening recently, figured it was because i had messed with some about:config stuff in ff,but i guess not.

...

Your first video plays for me to. Your second does not.

I'm testing this with chrome on my work mac. Maybe Mint is wonky, but this setup has no excuses. Something is fucked.

It happens only on Holla Forums and Holla Forums, and coincidentally they are the only two boards that don't link anything to media.8ch.net when you bring them up in a new tab.

Your first webm loops for me. Your second does not.

Somebody explain that.

Odd as hell. Do you have modded host files to block stuff? At one point my ad blocking program went ape shit and did the same thing to me tell I kicked its head in.
I wish you the best man in figuring this out!

No modded hosts file on this computer, only ublock origin. But it still doesn't work when I disable ublock.

I can give the url (8ch.net/pol/src/1470590487500.mp4) directly to VLC without downloading it first and it plays. But if I open the same url in Chrome, it doesn't play.

Nah, just checked Jewgle Chrome, there's video errors there too (not able to jump to a different time in the video, sometimes looping, sometimes not).

There's obviously an error in the site's JS, haven't looked at it though.

Oh these notes, I'll snag Chrome and see if I have same issue.

Nope, its all good on my end even in chrome.

Got the same thing, it is the browser. Has to do with buffering.

.mp4 uses H.264 video codec which isn't open-source so some browsers don't include support for it because they want to use only free elements.

You can test here:
quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

1) Try jumping to a different position in the video. It doesn't work.
2) 8ch used to have a custom video player/skin on chrome, now it's using the native one
3) I get DOMException errors when hitting pause:

UnCaught (in promise) DOMException: The play() request was interrupted by a call to pause().

Yeah I have been wondering about that myself. Probably just my own tinfoil tingling.

Is there a reason for that? Because Holla Forums and Holla Forums - even if some on Holla Forums doesn't want to aknowledge it, are the two right wing boards, and I just worry it's some fishy business. But again, might be my tinfoil too tight around my scalp right now.

Here's the solution, you niggerfagets.

Pic. Related.

On my own PC I have the same issue. Win7 and FF. Also used my dad's pc when I visited. Win10 and FF. Same issue.

...

Nope.

I'm using win7 and firefox and the same is happening to me

Heres what happens. Chrome can not seek at all, firefox can seek, but only what it has loaded.

pale moon is the same as firefox for that. So it's not a bug with the browser. Maybe Jim is trying to limit the bandwidth usage.

I was using regular up to date firefox and chrome for that. I just mangled the look of my firefox ;3. You could be correct, but I also wonder about &

That's just Unity. Something like Xubuntu is fine.

Was saying that I can confirm on Pale Moon that it behaves the same as Firefox.

However, once you play it once fully it's working as normal since it's in the cache.

My guess is they just switched to stream it rather than do a full download to reduce bandwidth usage.

Ah alrighty. Thank you for certification.
Have a merchant :D

same happening to me

dont slide tho

ok one more thing

Holla Forums and Holla Forums have their own separate hardware because they have so much traffic

same thing for me

also I can no longer save files with the original filename, it just uses the actual

anyone else getting that?

On unrelated note:

>cut off 1080p went east but fuck it

Finally a decent wallpaper. Pic related.

Working fine on Pale Moon atm.

I'm using Pale Moon 26.2.2 (x86) and having the problem. What version is yours?

...

I made a tutorial on /poltech/ but it's hard to get the gumption to help people when it takes setup time

Can't hide nor filter posts for some reason.
Also, what the fuck is this?

If

dom.storage.enabled is set to false' in about:config firefox, set it back to true.

WHAT FUCKING CODEC

THE TOP ONE WORKS FINE THE BOTTOM DOESNT AND SHOWS STREAM STYLE

well it's not ublock origin

(witnessed)

underrated post, thanks for the wallpaper user.

I like it. I made this one.

I edited out the EU map and extended the edges a little bit. I'm thinking about darkening it a little bit.

clean the top edge user

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out

very nice user

very nice

you dun goofed bro

Thanks user.

That's a good one, a bit too bright on the edges though. Will try to tinker with it.

it's a furrymoon problem, loonix firefox is basically furrymoon.
tested with both furrymoon on win, mint, and firefox on same systems.
all failed except for win SJWfox, I recommend dealing with it, or using waterfox.
waterfox has a windows and loonix version they just pander to macfags.

It's fucked up on waterfox too though user.

When I play webm's or mp4's on Holla Forums or Holla Forums and it doesn't allow me to seek and I'm using windows 10 and chrome. However, I went to Holla Forums and it works normally, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Same shit is still happening, and .mp4 won't play on my phone when it used to with no problem.

...

I fucking fell for the Linux meme. If I have to use Wine for my proprietary software just to work then screw this. This is the last time I take advice from Holla Forums.

Use palemoon and have the same streaming "issue".

The unsupported video bug is however present in google botnet as well.

chrome users are the worst. other browsers are cucked as well but chrome is the top end super cuck fag browser
