Yes it is, in the higher sense. Let me use an ancient metaphor: the Moon and the Sun.
The moon reflects the light of the sun, and thus is secondary. Lunar consciousness is life filtered through the a priori forms of sensibility, time and space, which individuate, separate, and generate the dual aspects of a singular entity (sin). In the Bibile, the snake is associated with the moon because it sheds its skin just as the Moon waxes and wanes, throwing off the past to be reborn again (think of the Orphic cult of Dionysus).
Solar consciousness is life unrestricted by the vessel of the body. Hence the Sun burns up all imperfection- only a pure soul can become one with it. It is eternal, completely disengaged with the field of time and space, yet at the same time it is the source of all life.
So you are wrong not just by your convictions, but also by scripture.
"And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil." (Genesis 2:9, KJV)
"But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die." (Genesis 3:3, KJV)
Adam and Eve eat from the tree of everlasting life, mistaking it for the tree of duality. It's right there in the book.
If God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, then he intended for Man to taste of the Fruit all along. This is the necessary first step to reaching perfection through the example of Christ: heroic triumph of spirit in life, through life, and by no other means.
