I agree that "ableism" is a weird concept, but it is possible to change minor aspects of a role or job in order to allow someone disabled to do them. Obviously ultimately things should be meritocratic, so if someone can't do a job well enough they shouldn't do it. But, for example, if all it would take for someone dyslexic to operate a system would be to have that system display its information slightly differently (in sound, rather than written, for example) and with that change they could do the job just as well, then that change should be made if its possible to make it (which it usually is).
I realise that "ableism" might seem stupid when you look at the more minor cases like autism or dyslexia, but I look after someone in a wheel chair and I can tell you that life is not designed with that kind of person in mind. This individual is perfectly capable of all kinds of things, but they can't gain access to them. Even going shopping in smaller stores can be a chore, when shop aisles are so narrow you can't get a chair through etc. I'm not about to blame these individual stores, but generally it does point towards a society that does not make allowances to help people that are less able than others to engage in that society. The number of places that don't have ramps, don't have lifts, anything like that. If profit wasn't such an issue (read, if capitalism wasn't our economic system) we would of course be able to afford to install ramps at these places.

When I was attempting some organization a couple of years back, I suggested an action against someone (a national figure) who lived at the top of a very large steep hill. Public transport was infrequent. Other members of the group decided that they wanted to decline the action because people in wheelchairs would be unable to comfortably participate.
This is a large part of why I've turned against feminism/SJWs (and yes, thats what they were); "diversity and inclusion" have become more important than actually getting things done.

The problem is that it's hard to get disability benefits. And when you do qualify, they pay so little. Unless you live in a socdem paradise like Sweden where you get like $2000USD/month if you have Aspergers. So other that employment, we autists don't really have any other way to earn a living. Our parents are going to die before we do usually as well. This is why there is a big ableist thing.
Id be perfectly fine with staying at home collecting a livable basic income or disability benefit if I can't get a job. But right now I ain't collecting shit and have to live in my parents' basement. Sucks.
