First world militaries are designed first and foremost to fuck up other militaries.

When dealing with an insurgency there are a plethora of political considerations mostly coming down to "muh civilians". If you omit these, the US military could easily glass the Middle East.

A treaty was signed that we would leave & the NVA would not invade the South. We left, and the NVA immediately invaded the south, breaking the treaty. The South Vietnamese were FAAAR to pussy to even slow them down, & the population did not care enough to try. We evacuated those that had helped us while we were there, because the NVA were torturing and killing them as soon as they got their hands on them (and a more ungrateful pile of chinks I have never met, they blamed US for their country's fall, even though they wouldn't fight to save it themselves…if I had my way, I'd deport them all).

America wasn't "defeated" in any military sense, we kicked the fucking shit out of them every time we fought them. We just left.

They are outnumbered 3:1 when it comes to battle ships. Most chinese battleships were rolled out in the the last decade, the oldest are from the early 90s. It's the same with the japanese navy. The chinese could starve japan out without any problem after blowing their navy to shreds.
The chinese probably wouldn't be able to take on the US navy because when numbers are that close, yeah, experience and technology is the deciding factor but that's not the case of china vs. japan. The japanese self defense force is not capable of stopping china and it's not designed to. It's designed to slow down until the US comes to the rescue.

I don't think the Chinese are that far behind, or they wouldn't have started to expand. They are using intelligent tactics (Area defense and area denial) that allow them to gradually build up.
