I'm a scientist and I'll tell you this: I've studied some of these "scientific polls". If the standards of science were applied to the pollsters they would be fired on charges of academic misconduct. Nate Silver does not have a background in science and his methods are especially dubious.
These pollsters act like they can read minds and reweight the polls according to a concocted narrative. When they use such a dubious reweighting, their error bars should double or triple, or more if the weighting is really baseless, but they ignore this.
