Most artists will pander to groups, yes, but not to all groups at once like design by committee does. It's easier to produce quality works this way.

Earlier this year I got into a long twitter argument with Erik Larsen. He couldn't wrap his head around the fact that someone could be completely okay with either Sanders or Trump (and NOT Hillary) being president. To him, Trump was the ultimate evil and Sanders was the shining beacon of all good and Hillary was a mild grey area. At the very least, I got to ask him, "every time a new GOP candidate shows up the very first thing your side does is compare him directly to Hitler. Doesn't that ever get old to you?"

Despite that I have a lot of respect for Larsen. He likes to talk shop on Twitter about how the comics industry is run, he has a comic that has run for what, over 150 issues now? From what I understand, Savage Dragon only sees a print run of 5000 per issue but that's better than just about any other indy can claim. Whenever anyone, be it a casual to an SJW starts ignorantly talking about the industry that he knows so well, he tells them off and frequently gets into trouble for it.

My favorite thing about him has to be his apparent hatred for comic book writers, which should be preaching to the choir here. I've seen him contributing to discussions where Alan Moore is derided as an overblown fanfic writer (because he is) and dismissing the likes of Gaiman while elevating the likes of Byrne and Miller because they actually work with the visual medium in its entirety instead of typing out some shit and expecting an artist to shoulder the other 99% of the work.

I remember him commenting in support on the Women in Refrigerators site, which is hilarious because he's fridged more women than any other comic writer.
