Alopex had potential to be awesome, but unfortunately stupid fucking shippers starting writing and drawing the IDW TMNT comics. So now Alopex is simply Raphael's cock holster with no potential. The latest arc was going to be about Angel bringing back Alopex after Kitsune brainwashed her, but out of nowhere Raphel is going to tag along with Angel because god forbid that Angel gets some characterization with her crime fighting partner WITHOUT the most overrated turtle smearing everything with his presence.

I've seriously grown to hate Raphel. That piece of shit ruined Alopex thanks to shipping, and frankly every single motherfucking TMNT Live Action movie is about him. On that note, even the 2007 Animated Theatrical film is about Raphael and his emo bullshit causing trouble in the team. Cancerous character. After Alopex abandoned the foot? That was when the shipping shit started with Raphael. Any excuse to draw pages of them having "awkward romantically suggestive" moments. No opportunity was ever wasted. Oh what's that? A page of Raphel hurt? Let's draw Alopex being the one he uses to lean on to get them "close" and shit like that.

Another thing that further destroyed Alopex besides the stupid pandering to shippers in the staff and the customer base was how Alopex repeatedly got brainwashed by Kitsune being reduced to a blank minded disposable tool/pawn. So if she's not just shipper bait shit, then she's a literal puppet without a thought going through her head acting the will of Kitsune.

Alopex was completely ruined thanks to those things. And here's the killer part of the deal, Raphael will never be disposed of so we know the stupid romance shit will eternally be there (maybe TMNT 2012 will avoid that because Raphael already has a girlfriend in that one, but for all we know that Alopex will suck for other reasons, for one thing that Alopex from the Nick cartoon started as a human chick and not a fox that got mutated). The Raph shit is one thing, the other problem is Kitsune who is an Immortal Godlike Deity (along with her other immoral family of gods). So if she's a goddess who cannot die, the threat of Kitsune always taking control of Alopex will remain for the foreseeable future. After all, as her name implies she's a fox and can control other foxes.

Even the Nickelodeon cartoon was smart to realize "Hmm Rat King can control Splinter, it will get old to see him constantly take control of Splinter so let's allow Splinter to kill him off." After Splinter wrecked Rat King? Never showed up again. But Rat King was a mortal man. Kitsune is a goddess that overlooks the goddamn planet and is on a tier even higher than time travel gods of the TMNT universe. That's how fucked up the situation is for Alopex to ever become a solid character.

As far as the mind control thing went, even the original series knew to keep that shit under wraps.

That's kind of sad to learn that Alopex ended up in the exact situation everyone was afraid she was going to go as Rapheals Dick-meat AND FF 4's Kain Highwind.

Complete waste of a good character.

And what makes it particularly infuriating is I have an absolute loathing for the 'all powerful deity-like' character archtype in general. Especially those with mind-control powers. Let's just take all agency and growth AWAY from our characters!

Back in the day everything absolutely had to have H-scenes or it wouldn't sell, now VNs without any H-scenes are incredibly common. Also for what it's worth Rewrite did incredibly well (key, no H, released pretty recently in 2011) and so did the steam release of Clannad.

I agree that VNs have shifted away from melodrama a bit, but they've been moving into the direction of being more plot-heavy with less H content rather than the other way around.
