A narrative keeps a viewer interested and invested in your work as they will want to see what will happen.

Is there a crazy crecendo in your music?
Match it with equally intense visuals to leave an impact on the viewer.
Does your music have a chorus?
Use that chorus to enforce what you are trying to say while telling your narrative in the verses.
Do you have some meaningful lyrics that correlate to your narrative?
Use that to your advantage, for instance, in Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction, there is a line in the chorus that says-
"Just like the Pied Piper-"

Use that moment to show in your visuals who the Pied Piper is supposed to be and who the rats are.
