But all smartphone producing companies are capitalist anyway. The point isn't about iPhones in particular, but that we engage in capitalist production and exchange despite claiming to want to fight against it. Apple isn't some huge super-evil greater than any other capitalist enterprise. Don't fetishise certain brands for your hate; there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Of course the answer is that if we want any form of quality of life at all, we are forced under capitalist to capitulate and engage as a consumer. It is very difficult and not hugely production to just refuse to engage in capitalism. Those people are called hermits and they haven't been known to instigate revolutionary activity in others.

it depends on who's definition of Capitalism, if capitalism means centralization of the fruits of distributed labor, where the labor class gains very little of their work while supporting an elite class that manages their lives and they have little choice in that arrangement, then yes, capitalism has existed for tens of thousands of years.
