What are Your religious beliefs and stance on religion in general?
Ex-christian, now some kind of quasi-agnostic. I stopped believing because I ceased to find a reason to believe. Specifically, I believe there is the possibility of a godlike entity/entities, that could logically arise from a few circumstances. A) Boltzmann brain with influence over matter and energy, B) created by intelligent beings, or B2) highly evolved intelligent beings advancing beyond the restrictions of their universe
In any case, whether or not such a god exists, is up in the air (And, I think, highly dependent on the existence of a multiverse or numerous cycles of our own universe). Whether it cares for us or other life is even more up in the air, and if it actually has even a tangential link to any of our religions, is so farfetched to me, that it's not worth considering.
My stance on religion in general? Let people do what they want, so long as they don't inhibit others. As living conditions and education get better, reliance on religion will decrease naturally.
remove spooks
Atheism.
I tolerate it, yet I consider it to be an artifact of the past, a challenge that society has to overcome to progress further.
I support state atheism, but only through reforms and education, not coercion.
AAAAAAAAAAH!!!
Every FUCKING day with these STUPID fucking SPOOKS! I've had it up to HERE with stupid fucking spooks! You guys make me want to KILL MY SELF! Is that what you fucking want? For me to fucking KILL MY SELF and write on my suicide note "Cause of suicide: Couldn't handle all of the stupid fucking spooks, killed my self"? Because that's what it might as well fucking say!
You guys are literally, L I T E R A L L Y incapable of having even the SIMPLEST of fucking discussion without "SPOOK THIS, SPOOK THAT, PROBABLY GOD BE JUDGIN', HERE'S A PIC OF "MY" PROPERTY, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA EBIN AMIRITE?" Fucking STOP IT you pathetic fucking FAGGOTS, you are such fucking cancer that I cannot even fathom how you fucking scumbags live your dumb gay lives. Don't you have a job to get to, schoolwork to finish or a union of egoists to attend to? Do you literally do ANYTHING productive with your lives other than publish stupid fucking spooks on the nearest fucking printing press? You fucking people make me sick and you're damn lucky I don't have any of your fucking addresses you fucking pieces of shits. I'd spit in your faces.
whoa, don't be so spooked, fam.
This is a leftist board, not an Egoist one.
Yes, ironically "spooks" have become a Spook in themselves.
That was really mean :(
I'm sorry that I've offend You.
Used to be Dawkins fedora tier, but I have sort of an appreciation for religion in terms of its role as a societal tool. I'm still a staunch atheist and supporter of secularism, but I think people who think religion should be repressed outright are destructive and useless.
none
I cant stop you from believing what you want to, and i don't care as long as it doesn't effect me or anyone else that wants nothing to do with it.
religion is dumb and for dumb people
PWND!
I believe in a not good but not evil god, i don't believe in organized religion
I see religion as a double edged sword, in one side it helps people to be good and help the needy, in the other side is a method of control of the masses (don't complain, work hard and you will go to heaven)
My belief in Christianity lead me to the path towards Socialism
I'm an atheist, personally, but I can see why people would be religious, and I think that Kierkegaard makes a strong argument for Christian existentialism.
Ex-Muslim. Now agnostic.
Believe me, before this, I was a hardcore fundamentalist. I totally believed in Islam letter to letter and even advocated for Sharia law for godsake. As I grew older, interacted more with non-Muslims, and became more educated, I begin to have doubts on the viability of a god from the Abrahamic perspective. However, what prevented me from fully deconverting was my deeply entrenched beliefs and the edgy Dawkin-esque bourgeoise atheists who were apologists for Western imperialism which my family was negatively harmed by.
I eventually became fascinated by politics and history, namely the stories of anti-imperialist struggles. It was hear that I discovered that my anti-imperialist heroes, from Mandela to Malcolm X, were or are sympathetic to leftism and I became formally introduced to communism.
Reading Marx made realize why we have religion, how it helps us cope with our material conditions, and how the bourgeoise uses it against the proletariat. Learning about his dialectical materialism made me realize that the "history of the world is the history of class struggle" and began to drift away from Islam and Islamism to secular leftism.
From my perspective, we should let people believe what they believe, however, we also need to set standards so that their beliefs do not infringe on others nor inhibit revolution. Sometimes, I think we also need to "communistize" religion so that more of them can support us in revolution because right now, a lot of religious people are damn reactionary.
Very similar to me, except I was born into a shia Muslim family instead of sunni. My path of discovery pretty much follows yours. Especially
I still cling to the idea that my very deep held beliefs can be reconciled with my belief that communism is the logical next step in human development.
But, as many revolutionary tendencies as a religion may have, you can only incorporate socialist tendencies to a certain extent without altering the tenants of the religion itself.
But religion only persists because the material conditions for its existence persist, so you can make the argument that "spookiness" will disspear from the beliefs of "religious" revolutionaries.
But I'm a hypocrite anyways, because I still go to the local mosque. I legitimately enjoy shia Muslim religious events, most of which consist of poetry and lectures. Am I a hypocrite for being a godless mosque regular? I don't know
not him, but there's nothing wrong in enjoying poetry, gatherings of (I assume) friendly people, eating good food and even listening to lectures that one may or may not agree with.
I'm in a somewhat similar situation, although I attend church on Sunday to avoid arousing my folks' suspicion that I'm non religious. I moved back in because I'm a poorfag but while I grow weary, and occasionally vehemently oppose what a pastor may preach, I too enjoy various religious traditions simply for their own sake.
I think the majority of people in secular nations see religion as more cultural than political.
A kind of Marxist Gnosticism
Well, I've tried to change the minds of lots of people who come to the mosque, and I've succeeded usually. I got the entire community to vote for Bernie by relating his socdem policies to the govt of Ali the 4th khalifa's
But I do come to a problem when using religious authority to shift people leftward, and that is the fact that the Koran and hadith exist!
Case in point, I was arguing with this guy about economics, I showed him where it says that taking interest is forbidden and he conceded. Then we got into CEO compensation and he made the argument that wealth given is ordained by god. See, then I cannot say anything to deny it because it means by extension I'm denying the words of Mohammed.
I wish there was a way to keep the cultural practices associated with religion, but not regard the source material as sacred, and allowing it to evolve to fit the current time
I find greek mythology far more tolerable than monotheism.
But i'm an atheist.
We have this thread everyday comrade.
I recently became a christian-existentialist and I've decided I want to go from #fullcommunism to #fullcommunion and become a Catholic.
God dammit Rebel when are you going to stop LARPing and go back to being an edgy absurdist normie?
ayy never the only act of rebellion in this age of modernism is to be orthodox (not eastern orthodox though).
Camus' act of rebellion was just another form of the leap of faith :^))) there's no reason why philosophical suicide is bad.
...
...
At this point he's not LARPing as a Christian, he's LARPing as a Leftist.
Lutheran
I don't mind religions that promote forgiveness and enlightenment, like say Buddhism and Zoroastrianism. Those that explicitly advocate for subjugation of other people and repression of critical thought are a cancer however.
2spooky
Not really, you're just culturally Muslim i guess a bit more than normal atheist/agnostic people where you're from.
ebin copypasta
sup dumb person
Esoteric religions are all legit.
Exoteric religions are all for controlling a population.
I'm atheist, but frankly i think the whole theist/atheist debate is stupid. Until the conditions that generate theism are gone, theism will be with us. Until the conditions of religious belief, which extends beyond theism into the secular, are gone, it too shall remain.
They're all legit garbage despite being miles above regular religion. They're fascinating, and fucking great for fictional story, but all of them are anti-political and basically advocate not getting involved and shaking the boat.
Hermiticism tho? Hermeticism is bomb. Divine science and conquering the material world to wake up God. Absolute all day 'ery day.
...
You're thinking of the New Age alterations.
But isn't the whole point of the quran that it is the direct word of god and can never be altered in any way?
I mean the bible is just a collection of stories and testaments that were approved by the Catholics at Nicea. A lot of Christians will tell you that there are a lot of significant books missing from the bible that were not codified or will even tell you that certain books, like John, are complete horse shit.
So Christianity could potentially do what you are describing, and has, but Islam is kind of an all or nothing thing and Mohammad made sure of that when he was formulating the religion.
Luther was also a bigot and didn't believe in heliocentrism. Doesn't mean he couldn't be right about a few things.
Religion will always maintain itself in some form.
In Straw Dogs I think John Gray shows this pretty well.
Peoples' ideology often becomes religion. Humanism takes a lot from christian values. A lot of marxists today are very dogmatic and religious. We often have people who say socialism is their religion.
This is why I stopped using that flag.
Deus sive Natura.
I'm a Theravada-leaning Buddhist and I try to obey the five precepts as well as possible.
I have a positive outlook on most religion, but a lot of religion seems to be making people ignore the problems that face them rather than confront them.
I think suffering goes much deeper than the struggle between the bourgeois and the proletariat, though I do not deny the importance of removing this power relationship. It eases suffering; not totally, but it helps.
For me, the root of suffering is craving. If this were eliminated at the root, all other suffering would cease too. The problem is that the task to eliminate craving is a personal one; nobody can do it for you. Socialism, on the other hand, works via the people as a whole.
I would agree to an extent with this; but I would say that religions such as Mahayana Buddhism involve interaction in the real world with the struggle of everyday people. Religions such as Buddhism can range from being apathetic to supportive of the Socialist cause.
what is your opinion on the eastern orthodox church, if I may ask?
It's all the same bullshit.
It doesn't matter and has nothing to do with communism.
Quit making threads on this idpol crap.
God is a horrible beast and, lacking the ability to destroy it directly, I intend to stay away from it as much as possible.
Atheist here.
Ok if practiced privately but I don't advocate the construction of cult houses (mosques, churches, synagogues…) and special treatment in public spaces (halal/kosher food in public schools).
I was sixteen once too.
I believe that in all likelihood God doesn't exist, mostly because we haven't created him yet.
What does that make me?
A meme loving cunt
I can't deny that
Being extremely religious is borderline mental illness
Or apophenia out of control
The only good religious movements are something akin to liberation theology, but those are few and far between so religion is mostly just shit
HAIL HELIOS
thanks for the mindfuck.
Atheist. I'm glad religion and other forms of thinking exist, though. It's a barrier against the absolute triumph of capitalist-liberaloid ideology.
