So, how many of you have realized that progressive or liberal left is synonym of sold out? Because the modern left of Hollande, Renzi, Obama gives you homosexual marriage while waging war on the working class via trade agreements and migration. The latter in particular is the chief treason of the Left against its core electorate, the working class. All that progressives propose are ethnic of gender quotas, none of which help in any way the class struggle but actually have the opposite effect, they neuter it. Liberals like Clinton and Obama take money and orders from Wall Street and wage war on socialist governments in Venezuela and Brasil with the help of pigs like Soros, another hero of the modern left.
Didn't Marx warn against losing sight of the real goal and risk being corrupted by the very bourgeoise you are supposed to fight against?

Did I say that you clueless mong? No. Gays can do whatever they want. Their agenda however is not related in any way to class struggle and therefore it shouldn't be a priority in elections.
Ryder Robinson
You realise the Judicial branch of government is separate from the Executive?
That's all I have to say. I agree with the rest.
Benjamin Price
This is true. It's exactly what Syriza did. Legalized gay marriage and then they let their country take it up the ass for Porky.

The US case is more a country specific exception. In France Hollande passed gay marriage while literally selling out to neoliberals. Same Tsipras in Greece and Renzi in Italy. In the US it worked differently but the point is the same, the agenda of the liberal left is to sell you social rights in exchange for economic ideals.

Shocking

Hollande and Tsipras operate under the badge of socialists though. Except that they are not.
Lincoln Parker
Gay rights actually are related to class struggle: state marriage is a substantial factor in economic mobility.
However, they are a very small part of it, which is why they are prominent. They give something people to argue about that has some kind of meaning.
Modern politics are a spectacle, and like all other forms of entertainment, it takes discipline to draw in the viewer. People will not argue about things they do not feel matter. The mass media knows this, they know exactly what buttons to push.
Nathan Collins
But if you are exchanging a step forward for a 1% of the working class with 50 steps back for the whole working class, then you either suck at math or you sold out.
Austin Bailey
Pretty much everyone on this board have realized this already with the exception of some occasional redditors that find their way to here somehow.
Dominic Gray
Pretty much. I think of progressivism is being the liberal equivalent of libertarianism. Something liberals adopted when liberalism began to have negative connotations. Just like when Conservatives and Republicans started to describe themselves as libertarians because the Republican party became an embarrassment after the Bush years in the eyes of the American public.
Andrew Miller
Why there's basically no public debate about it though?
It's like liberals have already taken over everything save for the fringe irrelevants.
Connor Evans
Plox kill.
Tyler Anderson
You realize this only makes sense under capitalism right?
Robert Parker
Certainly, but I think it's important for us to make a clear distinction between recognising that issues like gay marriage are simply a lower priority, and claiming that those issues are completely irrelevant or "bourgeois". Any leftist government should ultimately aim to eliminate identity-based inequality just as much as class inequality.

This doesn't contradict what the user said. It's a truism like the following:
In communism there aren't classes.
Hunter Sanders
Discrimination is something to fight, but people make it about identity which then opens up a new can of worms…
Joseph Lopez
Progressivism has more to do with reigning in the excess of big business than idpol.
Lucas Bailey
IMO you can only believe they "sold out" if you start from a complete misunderstanding of what these people represent and what they're trying to accomplish in the first place.
I think many socialists do this, they share the conservative's fantasy that inside liberal politicians there is a leftist reluctantly dancing to the beat of capitalism, but waiting for a moment to come out. But while conservatives fear this, socialists become hopeful.
