THIS
It's actually not that difficult to install these days. The time of stage 1 tarballs is pretty much over, and tuning your CFLAGS is quite simplified (as opposed to say, 2002).
If the idea of compiling everything from source is unappealing, there are many alternatives. Debian based distros seem to be all the rage (Ubuntu is a Debian ripoff). Of these, best to pick by which Window Manager or Desktop Environment you want. Bodhi Linux has a rather nice fork of e17 (called Moksha) which is quite nice.
If you want to get arrested, install Kali Linux and play with the tools in public.
Hello yes where is the anime
linux mint is nice for learning on.
ubuntu is nice when you're educated.
kali gives sweet dubs.
like at my local library?
Or a mall, school, Starbucks, a federal court houseā¦
whats illegal about it
Kali Linux is designed for security experts. It includes tools needed to "hack" into networks. That is illegal unless you have permission from the owner of the network being accessed.

Wow I can tell you're edgy as fuck bro. Plox teach me ur 1337 hax ways xdd
good going making yourself look like a dumbass
What are you talking about? He is just answering a question.
I do not recommend Kali. I thought that was clear.
Mint or 1 of the ubuntu spins(xubuntu, lubuntu, kubuntu) is good for beginners. I prefer Arch with i3.
i liek ubuntu
No it isn't. Learn to Hackintosh.
I prefer Mint because the developer basically told the kikes to not use the distro.
which is the master of them all?

Hey guys it's op I'm currently installing gentoo. I am installing a desktop environment right now
My hardware is not supported
why u act like that bitch?
kali fucking rocks bitch
install windows 10
If you've never used Linux before, then some distro from the Ubuntu family. It's easy to install, has a UI similar to other popular non-Linux OSes, and it's easy to find support on the Internet. If you want to dig deeper then I recommend Arch Linux, but do it only after you know the basics.
then arch seems good.
i use it and it's pretty easy to get it to do what you want if you have a basic understanding.
Xubuntu is what I would recommend, that or mint. Support is same as Ubuntu, and it's pretty much as user friendly. comes with xfce which: looks good; works gud for multi monitors; isn't unity. Not developed by the Ubuntu team so you don't have to worry about amazon spying on you for the most part.
After that go arch like said.
Kali is alright I guess if you just wanna mess around, but it's not really suitable as an everyday distro unless all you do is browse the internet.

Please tell me you haven't actually fallen for the gentoo meme. gentoo is a pain in the ass. If you want to go for a more advanced disto at least go Arch.
how likely are they to actually catch someone for this?
Better question is how old you are.
Kali has several hundred tools and getting caught would depend on whether your screen was visible, and what you were doing. Your question is stupid because it's like asking how likely you are to get caught looking at porn in class: Where are you sitting? Are you holding your phone up in the air? Is your volume turned up?
okay, well the other poster made it seem like there was no way to do it safely.
so i guess if you're careful, it can be okay. thanks for the nfo.
@OP
get linux debian with LXDE desktop
it just werks and it pretty much resembles windows. You could also get cinnamon (which resembles windows even more) but the problem with it is that it uses much more resources.
Don't ask this question here OP. Most people here are tech illiterate and/or stupid. Last two times we had a thread like this I was the only one with actual experience with Linux. Go ask this on linuxquestions or reddit or something.

Linux is so gone
Now we suggest you BSD
distrowatch.com to see it all
Just get one of the top user-friendly distros (Ubuntu, Linux Mint or something), look up the different DEs and decide which one looks appealing and stick with it. Cinnamon is a great desktop/interface, in my opinion. Unity has a huge learning curve and is tough to get used to but it's really not as bad as people make it seem. Mate is alright.
Sabayon is decent distro, btw. It's Gentoo based. Can easily do equo install cinnamon or whatever DE you want. Haven't used Sabayon in forever but it was good last time I used it.
I second this, its perfect for everyday use.
