i want to ask you a question

what is the downsides of living in a true communist country ?

do you think that there is a down sides of communism ?

i want it for my rpg

...

Well it's actually a confederation of star systems but whatever.

my idea of a fantasy communion that live in underground separated from the rest of the world

and i want to know if shit can get wrong in there you know

"and every one lived happily after the end " is not a good story setup you know i need to understand what can go wrong in a communist society

The goal of communism is eliminating the inherent contradictions of capitalism.

That only (severely) reduces the problems people have to deal with. It's not like people will stop dying of cancer (until glorious red cancer vaccines are developed) once communism is in place or they won't have other problems.

if they have achieved communism I couldn't begin to speculate what could feasibly go wrong however if they are still in socialism you can have sectarianism go wild and the society is in constant civil war between space trots, stalinists, anarchists, marxists, leftcoms etc.

Depends on your spooks, really. I guess you could claim that communism is shit because people would have enough time to train and educate themselves and would inevitably figure out that it's better not to procreate.

I don't think you mean theoretical post-socialist future communism.

But in the case of an isolated commune a lot can go wrong. A shortage of resources, authoritarians trying to subvert the communal nature, as a matter of fact if you're really serious about it you should take some time to read Homage to Catalonia.

What about a religio-narco cult that saps people of their free will, forming an evil anti-gommie power structure?

The only major downside I can think of is that you wouldn't be able to live in the same kind of luxury that the bourgeoise currently enjoy, because that would inevitably lead to the many suffering for the indulgences of the few. And communists view that as unjustifiable.

But then again, that's also only when scarcity is still a thing. In a spacefaring communist society, scarcity would end up becoming nonexistent, and terraforming would eliminate any issues with there not being enough space. And I don't see how a capitalist society could continue to exist if post-scarcity became a thing, though I guess Snow Crash is basically post-scarcity and just imposes completely artificial restrictions on peoples' access to goods nevertheless. Such is the logic of capitalism.

Quality contribution right here

interesting point
and that might lead to cultrual shock when they leave the underground world and live elsewhere

i wrote a cult that do the opposite of this
they give others meta-freewill so they form a 4th wall breaking army to destroy the factional universe

what do you think about that ?

thanks for the advice comrade

I'll probably say more come tomorrow, but here's what I could think of off the top of my head:

If we're talking some futuristic-type or space-worthy society:

REMOVE MEATBAGS, ROBOT LIBERATION NOW

I suppose the transhumanist issue could be elaborated a bit more as to how it relates to communism.
Obviously one of the core ideals of a truly communist society would be the abolition of class hierarchy. With modification/improvement of the individual through technological (magical could also work if that's what you're rolling with, all the same), if the distribution/access to such bodily changes is not made to be relatively even across the society, there may be internal concerns/predictions of class society reemerging if a growing power-gap is exploited by opportunistic factions (either of your Stalin-esque variety, or factions "encouraged" by assorted outside forces for personal gains).

Basically the same sort of dilemma you see in the Deux Ex games (specifically HE), just swapping out the ideological baggage of trying to defend such progress within the confines of the capitalist system with the implications of how such change could upset the balance of what some might have considered the "end of history."

I have a feeling that if a communist society had came into existence and was a spacefaring one, the issue of a class conflict between augmented humans and fleshies wouldn't realistically happen. I don't see how this sort of society wouldn't also have achieved post-scarcity.

I mean, a single asteroid is all we'd need to provide us with basically all the precious metals we could ever want

wow, this was fucking civil. I visit /tg/ fairly frequently, and nigh every thread eventually devolves into accusations of degeneracy cultural marxism, and sjws (a fair bit of it is justified tho)… but here we see a fa/tg/uy who doesn't get autistic about Holla Forums's memery.

is there hope?

Requesting a webm with Zizek talking about the problem of envy in communism

the warhammer 40k fanbase
thats why

I imagine most of the conflict in communism would be from outside areas trying to meddle with them. Even if the communists were minding their own business, wouldn't the capitalists, if they knew about them, try to destroy while they were weak, you know, before the communists built up a population?

I imagine that if the underground communist society were so far removed, the capitalists would have an easier time making up lies to motivate their population to go to war.

NOPE

She still won't like me

The eternal chad

100% geographically Isolated communion *

Shut the fuck up negro

what an original maymay friend xDD 10/10 post

i will screencap this post this meme is soooo original xDDDD

now go and kill yourself somewhere else

...

i like this man already

thanks man this makes for a good dramatic story potential

One of the easiest solutions is that it isn't FALC, that there is still resource scarcity and collecting metal from asteroids might be a danger in itself. So everyone is equal, but they also have equal hardships.

As someone who enjoys /tg/ stuff I will sadly admit I feel it has a tendency to attract people who put fantasy before reality, which is the core of Holla Forumss worldview.

Haha! I really, really liked that post! Can I share it with my son?

Shit environment. With no government to regulate anything, the tragedy of the commons will merely play out on a communal scale instead of its previous individualistic scale.

We're leftits.

We're all degenerate Slaneesh worshipers and you know it.

That there are no more capitalists to hang.

A socialist country might be more interesting for your game, since communism is a system so far removed from the current societal circumstances that we neither can tell what it will be like exactly nor what its downsides would be. (communism would also not be a "country")

You could have slower response time to societal issues since it has to be discussed by all of society most of the time. You could have slower and more wave-ish colonisation of planets, but the colonisation would be more organised and less wild-westerny, since all of it would be organised and planned to a certain degree in advance, rather than letting individuals compete in the wastelands for their own profit.

Anyway, you are asking for a high order here, because the material conditions on your planets and moons may accommodate neither capitalism not socialism/communism. Frontier places are generally not governed and the dominant economic systems, looking at places like alaska, are not capitalism, but agriculture and hunt-gather, with occasional trading to get resources you cannot make. While this system exists alongside capitalism in the civilized parts, it is not the same, since the wilderness does not belong to anyone, it is not private property and can be homesteaded if wished by the person coming by it.

The more urbanized or settled an area is, the more capitalist it becomes. From wilderness it becomes small villages with some farms, then eventually all land is owned by someone and theres some small cities, then capitalism sets in.

For me to give you an accurate view of what life would be like, we need to know more about the world you are creating. A common mistake people make when creating worlds is projecting current culture and economics into foreign worlds, such as "badass feminist symbols" in the middle ages. These choices can be fantastic for making good stories, but are seldom realistic. Our pop culture idea of what life was like back in roman times, our idea of what they supposedly thought and what politics they dealt with, is far removed from the reality. It is almost impossible for you and me, to put ourselves into the shoes of a true Roman, in an age where they were the largest empire, slaves were common and normal and entertainment and cultural ideas so alien to us.

Making Fully Automated Luxury Communism is not going to make for a great story or game, it will literally be the most overpowered system in your game, since its scarcity and technology is so different from generic feudal, empirical and capitalist societies. Communism is after socialism. Its, with my guess, at least a hundred years or more away. I cant begin to speculate what the problems will be. It will be like those 18th century people predicting life in 2000.

tl;dr gimme some info.

but thats what i want
communism is so far from our reality right now that it is almost a fantasy just like my game
the tonal synergy is sooo good

Hello, Xexizy!
Not everyone wants to grow 5 dicks and 10 vaginas and murderfuck the world, you know!
Some of us prefer the equality of oportunity, found best in the Skaven society.

Now, for the real part.
The aplication of communism, in a future society has been the epicenter of a variety of sci-fi.

First, you need to define what kind of communism has been achieved.
Is it a hive-mind colective?
Is it full intelectuality?
What's it's conections with the outside world?
Has it fallen into technological stagnation?

Is it perhaps, still socialism and the state doesn't wither away, thus a revolutionary group is starting to oppose the party, while also not falling victim to the threat of Capitalism?

(You can have more "fun" in a State with stagnating socialism, than with a perfect system where people can do whatever).

isolated xenophobic communion with eastern mystic thrown into the mix
everyone have the same level of access to the resources

the city is circular shaped with 5 walls "see pic "

the dao is work philosophy text that require your discipline in your work as long as you are part of that dao

and you follow these dao's as you like

every dao run itself interdependently but every thing that they produce they share

1 sorry for my bad english
2 i don't understand Communism that much

The Dispossessed. God tier sci-fi look it up on a wiki or something.

Gene Rodenberry based the Federation in Star Trek: The Next Generation on communism. I suppose the primary drawback would be tight uniforms. I will point out that the military hierarchy portrayed in the series is inconsistent with a stateless society, which communism is. If you want to show one glaring deficiency in the space-faring future communist system, it would be the inability of the military to present an efficient response to an organized external threat. Big, centralized armies always win and win quickly.

At some point the heat death of the universe will catch up with us.
