You think Sega told Archie to put that in so people will quit asking them why isn't Sally Acorn isn't in the games?

That text has been there for a loooooong ass time.

It's just to establish a different canon.

Thanks for repeating what I said instead of really answering it

Never really read the Sonic comics before. I'm surprised they're this good.

Thanks for sharing, OP.

Has there been more of the Classic Sonic comic?

That meant yes.

You mean Mega Drive? There's another issue coming out some time this fall, I think.

Would anyone mind if I posted the previous parts to this story?

I think they were story timed on here once before, but that thread has since been lost, so go ahead. I'm sure any anons that haven't read them would appreciate the refresher.

You should, the reboot has done an amanzing job finally getting rid of all the bullshit that folded the old comics

Very well then.

Last issue of the main comic I read was when the Freedom Fighters were mounting a last ditch attack on the Gaia Colossus while Eggman confronted Sonic with the Egg Dragoon. Has the comic been continued from there?

Also, is it worth it to subscribe? I know Archie's going through some shit at the moment.

I'd hold off on subscribing if I were you. After Unleashed is over the comic is doing some boring flashback arc that's pretty much Genesis 2.0.

That's in the main Sonic the Hedgehog series, and it hasn't quite updated yet. That one will be out September 14th, and the continuation of the Sonic Universe storyline will be on September 28th.

On the bright side, it looks like the next Sonic Universe storyline is going to involve Team Chaotix going to Blaze's world.

I actually have the next issue of the main comic if anyone's interested in seeing it?

Go right ahead, user.

Right then here's the penultimate chapter to the Unleashed Saga

...

...

...

And there you have it.

Ha.

Kudos OP

Eh, I may as well storytime the preceding issues of the main to get folks up to speed.

Are Eggman's two robot underlings from Sonic X or Boom?

Sonic Boom in this case.

If I remember correctly both of them actually made their first appearances in different games (Orbot being from Unleashed and Cubot from Colors), but were then put into Sonic Boom and various other games made after Colors.

That second page can be edited in many ways…

Did they literally take a look at both characters and decided they would create a good Scratch and Grounder dynamic?

Sorry for the delay. And without further ado, here are parts one and two of Panic in the Sky

What would happen if Archie went under? Would Sega take the license elsewhere and start entirely fresh? Or would there just be no more Sonic comics?

It seems more they decided Eggman needed some consistent comic relief henchmen and decided those two would be them from now on, given they're now a consistent across the comics, Boom universe, and games.

Who knows, Sega can be pretty unpredictable. (but usually does dumb things) Probably would drop it in the 'too hard' basket and cancel it, best case scenario is the crew doing the current comic form their own company and take over pretty much where they left off.

The Sonic comic is the longest-running current licensed comic, iirc, it's a goddamn miracle it's lasted this long through everything. It may not be making millions but it's made money since the 90s.

Who's the black and yellow robot?

Gemerl from Sonic Advance 3.

Originally the robot Emerl from Sonic Battle, which he was destroyed at the end of in a big, heroic sacrifice. He was rebuilt by Eggman for Sonic Advance 3, and at the end of that game, he got a happy ending living with Cream and her mother.

He hasn't shown up since in the games, but I guess in the Archie comics, he's one of the big guns that the Freedom Fighters keep in reserve for when things get really serious.

deepest lore

More of a half-remembered recounting of the events of the games, actually. Looking into it a little more, I got a lot wrong. The part about him living with Cream and her family after Sonic Advance 3 is canon, though.

Ha ha meme

shadow the hedgehog is now cannon
plotholes fucking everywhere
who fucking thought this was a good idea!?

...

It's more a broad strokes approach to the games, which is the best way to do it. Sega wanted the games canon even if they had to tie the setting into knots to do it, it's far less of a mess post-reboot.

They even had an arc that followed up on Shadow the Hedgehog and a Black Arms-derived villain running around somewhere.

The games are a mess. The "world" in the sonic games is an incosistant clusterfuck that makes no sense.

Is it more of a mess than the dozens of alternative continuities?

On a side note, it's still weird seeing everyone say "Eggman" with a straight face, even if Robotnik is just as goofy

Yeah some of the characters should call him Robotnik and others Eggman.

I've been saying that for years. Kind of the problem when Sega basically takes the franchise apart trying to find the problem and it doesn't help.

Ian was doing beautifully, sadly they just had to interfere.

Literally had to, given the legal fuckery from Penders. (If you're not familiar with that? Hoo boy, do I have a story to tell you)

I'm all for creator rights, but Ken Penders should not have won that lawsuit.

All too well. But even with the soft-reboot SEGA didn't have to demand that the game canon be followed so closely, e.g. Orbot and Cubot.

why do these all look so uninteresting to read? I become physically drained just looking at it.

By all means, go back to reading capeshit.

It was literally just because Archie was ludicrously incompetent. (and apparently lost their paperwork in a fire)

Sega's demands for the comic have from all accounts been weird and arbitrary, which shouldn't be surprising. For some reason, they really don't want to acknowledge Eggman Nega. I think they hate alternate universes in general too after Penders managed to claim 'mirror universe Sonic' somehow.

...

Dark Gaia voiced by Danny Devito

It's no different to calling supervillains by their goofy names like Penguin, Riddler, Brainiac or Egghead seriously.

That's a perfect Fuck You to Penders.

I thought it was mocking Shadow and OCs in general, but that actually makes a lot of sense.

Though I still say that an evil Sonic being an insufferable edgelord makes perfect sense, given Sonic being generally nice is the only thing stopping him from being the biggest dick on the planet.

Sega seems to acknowledge that the comic is a pretty big milestone in and of itself–they could have very easily pulled the plug when the old writer went sue happy over enchaladas.

Reading between the lines in Ian Flynn's podcasts, the only difficulties in working with sega seems to be character restrictions, and after what the comic was like for 12 years that is a little understandable.

Thank you for sparring us the details on your Holla Forumsco/ fanfiction.

Now get out.

Probably why every writer ends up introducing more OCs; you can actually do stuff with those.

What interests me is the post-reboot changes from SatAM; Dulcy in particular is completely different, with dragons no longer being a special thing. (another fuck you to Penders/Bollers) And Antoine is more 'voice of reason' than 'useless coward'.

I think that has more to do with Sega trying to bury the lamest bits of the dark age. I know that everything from Shadow is off-limits for one thing, so hoping people forget about a dull villain who never went anywhere isn't a stretch. Some restrictions are for the better though, like making Metal an actual threat/character instead of a disposable mass-produced bot.

Evil sonic is what we'd have gotten as the main character if penders read too many Jack comics and convinced Archie that late 90's edge is due for a comeback.

I like how she actually looks normal compared to the rest of the cast, and not like the dragon from shaun and boston.

Also, any confirmation that Ian and Evan "that isn't a girl's name" Stanley are writing for Boom's season 2?

They had a whole Universe arc about the remnants of the Black Arms, though?

Apparently Sega is weird about Metal/Mecha Sonics, though Flynn seems to be able to write around that with Silver Sonic.

Weirdly enough, the comics seem bent on making Shadow and Silver less insufferable; Shadow's chilled out a lot and is almost a straight man as a GUN agent and more pragmatic hero (who just can't not butt heads with Knuckles), while Silver is still a well-meaning dork in way over his head.

They were all OCs, including Shadow's super secret alien brother who comes complete with his own evil wisps.
I do like how black doom was so generic, no body noticed when flynn pointed out the bad guy in Shadow's universe arc was a separate character.

Sega probably thinks Archie is a bunch of fuck-ups who can't really be trusted. Given Archie's history with Sonic, they wouldn't be wrong in this assumption.

Yup, you're right about that user. Thank god for Flynn being a workaholic robot dedicated to cleaning the comic of penders' taint.

Speaking of, did you know all the bullshit forced on to Knuckles was originally meant for Sonic? Penders' writing was so flimsy and out of context he dumped everything he planned on to the next biggest character when he was told No by Sega.

What's the name of that site where you can read all of these?

This one?
en.sonicscanf.org/comics/archie/

Yes
Nice digits btw

That explains a lot. Knuckles basically had very little to do with his own supposed story.

Fair nuff. They recognised the Black Arms, used the same alien types and mentioned the events of the invasion, though.

Do like the implications in the reboot that GUN is still recovering from all the dubious shit they did in the past that Shadow's backstory was involved in, recent enough that King Acorn has trouble trusting them.

...

Basically they are about to fight Dark Gaia now

...

neither. They're from the games.

SEGA won't allow that

The hell are you doing on Holla Forums?

thought that was Penders in the thumbnail, until I saw the medallion

I'm glad he was remembered!
Seriously, Sega forgot about him, even in Chronicles where there is an entire race of Emerls.

I read all 7 parts that are out and am only a few chapters behind in the newest part, don't take me for some /cow/

There honestly isn't a difference. Don't forget penders wrote in his family drama into Knuckles backstory, which is why his dad is a douche.

Penders run on Knuckles was fascinating because he managed to write a protag so dull, so void, so utterly uninteresting it was like a distraction designed to numb your mind as he shat out more plagiarist enchaladas than an MS paint happy deviantard and hoped people would think it was "deep".

...

I haven't played a Sonic game since the first one, but even though I don't know the lore I guess none of this shit happens in any of the games. Am I right?
It's just the characters from the games in a made-up setting losely based in the world of the games?

Are the Sonic comics worth reading through? I just read all of the Megaman comics, and got to the crossover tie in, and was wondering if it was worth getting into.

Also Megaman comics are so fucking good, holy shit.

The beginning of the first Sonic-Megaman crossover is basically 'Doctors Eggman and Wily alter reality so that Sonic is like in the games and Megaman is like in the latest games, rather than his current point on the timeline'. You don't need to know anything about the Sonic comics to get into it.

Also, they rebooted the Sonic comics after this crossover, so just starting to read the Sonic titles from this crossover onwards is an option. They're pretty good.

It's a long story, but the gist is that this is basically a broad strokes mash-up of the games and the cartoons from the 90s. (not counting Sonic Underground)

Knuckles' dad wears a Darth Vader outfit minus helmet, oddly enough.

And Knuckles is written like a typical canon character in a fanfic; an afterthought and excuse for all his original characters to look cool in comparison to.

Wot, no Lara-Su?

You'd think having been a high-profile comics writer for so long he could have found a better artist. What is that, MsPaint and Photoshop?
And the 3D render… brr, I haven't seen an uncanny valley like that since Fetischpro.
DESCENDING ENCHILADA! SHAME CUBE!

Pretty sure Penders burnt every bridge he ever had. Even most of his echidna autist fans have fled by this point.

Jesus Christ
Is this thing still being made?

Can we get adobe to revoke his copy of photoshop or something? Jesus fucking Christ.

How? Has he never picked up a book or watched a free tutorial on Youtube in his life? Is Penders autistic?

I mean, just having some form of reference open on the side should help avoid making a model like that.

I only played sonic games and I can say for sure that 99.99% of the faggotry from the fandom is solely due to these shitty comics

And that's the problem

How is that a problem?

The guy probably has problems dealing with Gimp

...

Nigger most furry fucks didnt even play the games, just like they fap to FNAF porn but never played the fucking thing either

Having seen a picture of him, yes.

The comics only account for like, 30% of the Sonic fanbase's degeneracy at best. It's not the comics that introduced Tits the Bat.

B-but Rouge gives be someone to post humorously when people misspell Rogue's name!

Besides, bat tits. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

So archie is being sued by another former, work-for-hire anuslicker trying to get by on furry fan characters he wrote two decades ago.

Thoughts?

You are fucking retarded.

It's like you're bragging about being the purest fan or something.

Thanks for the laugh.

Which one?

No he doesn't you silly.

Are you referring to Scott Fullop's impending lawsuit? The one where he's suing Sega, in addition to Archie Comics? And where there was an attempt at a settlement that fell through?

That certainly sucks for them. On the bright side, at least they haven't recently been using any of the characters or concepts that they're being sued over:

The Sword of Light was kinda used recently.

But yeah, all that stuff is basically shelved.

Supposedly the suit is based on digital collections and reprints of older stories.

Didn't know the attempted settlement fell through though–and legalese anons want to postulate what will come of this?

Those demands are, if you ask me, quite asphyxiating. Seriously, no conflict!

According to Tv Tropes, the rules are:
Which is ok, Flynn is making expies out of them, better designed if you ask me.
Gemerl couldn't also be used for years! Seriously, why not Nega? I mean, Archie could fix the whole fiasco with the Blaze plot hole from 2006.
Which is a bit boring, but the comics had a terrible deal with the relationships in the past, so I can forgive this one.
What? That's boring! is boring to read about people who doesn't change even a little!
I get this, but it makes Sonic Universe the more interesting of the two series. I'm more interested in how Silver develops than Sonic being the same Sonic.
Bo-ring!

A story without character development. That's quite difficult. I don't want to know how Ian felt when he got the news.

I might be thinking of his stepfather.

I think this is partly a result of Sega marketing really wanting the comics to remain representative of the games at all times, partly the result of previous writers fucking the dog. I think under Bollers/Penders the comic literally turned into a high school soap opera for a while.

Meh, it's Sonic. He comes, does cool shit and then goes for the next adventure and that's enough for me, you don't need a super deep character.
I'm pretty sure he feel a little sad but in the same way he give two shits. I forgot where I get this but the reboot was bound to happen lawsuit or not, the only difference was that all those Pender's stories would have a proper conclusion.
Still it would have been interesting to see how the old universe was suppose to end, specially with how things were getting darker. There is the lost hedgehog tales, Ian's original plans for the comic before the reboot if you are interested to know what would have happened if Penders was fucking retarded, it's only one chapter tho, because it got shitcanned thanks to some lawsuit problems from guess who

This actually annoys me because before the reboot, it seemed like Amy was getting over her crush on Sonic because she realized he just wasn't into her and that she'd rather see him happy with someone else. Plus, she's more interesting when she's not just 'crazed Sonic fangirl'.

How the hell do you threaten someone over that when they flat out can't profit from posting that information in any capacity? It doesn't even fall under an NDA because those plot lines died a painful death.

I think that's more part of the 'game characters cannot have steady relationships' thing combined with needing to enforce the status quo.

I think it was Bollers who basically turned the damn into a damn harem of Sonic with nearly every girl in the main cast plus some OCs. (Mina Mongoose and Fiona Fox for one), and the infamous Sonic curled up crying cover was because Sally was being married off.

sounds boring

And now without further delay. I present to you the exciting climax to Shattered.

...

...

...

...

Lewd.

I'm sensing a distinct shipping vibe.

I think Ian is doing it to piss off SEGA.

I hope so, considering their guidelines are pretty unreasonable.

I don't mind the rule on SEGA characters having no development. Flat characters aren't inherently bad, especially in semi-serious kid-oriented media like this. Plus if the characters were to develop and go through character arcs, then the results would probably end up being reset or forgotten anyway, like in the games themselves. Tails has gone through the "I'm confident and capable without Sonic!" arc at least twice to no effect.

These rules are just mad gay though. It's fine to want the protagonist to always come out on top, but at least let the tension build for a few issues before letting him win. Also, I don't care if it's just fanart bait, I want alternate costumes.

How come Uncle Chuck is still around, then?

He's not actually related to Sonic anymore, they just call him Uncle Chuck because he's older than them.

Why is knuckles so bi?

especially going around conventions and signing peoples' sonic merchandise.

Kinda sad

I think that's partly brand protection, partly insurance against Sonic being given the Worf treatment only for the next special snowflake OC to come in and save the day.

The outfit thing is weird but definitely brand protection.

The thing is, I think those rules only apply to currently used games characters. And Tails did wear a bow tie for a bit, so either there's loopholes or they're not THAT strict, they just don't want outfits to change beyond the game status quo.

Nearly everything on that list seems to be 'Previous writers fucked the dog on these accounts so no one can do them ever again'.

Does "SEGA Characters" refer to the video game characters?

I think so. I'm not sure if the ones dredged up from ancient games no one cares about anymore (And Honey was technically never in a released game) count for anything; Battle Kukkoo XIV has a son and all.

It does make me wonder what exactly is the legal status of characters like the SatAM guys. Sega and Archie probably don't even know.

So when's the next issue of the main comic coming out?

Next Wednesday

Sega of burgerland owns them.

So all ow Nagus' planning paid off, technically speaking, even though he's in jail now. Will it take another two years for him to do something, or will another wishing troll bust him out?

Half of Sega's weird copyright issues, and problems in general for that matter, are that Sega of Japan and America hate each other.

Prior to the neutering of SoA in early '15 anyway.

Probably an improvement in that at least one part of the company is calling all the shots instead of two butting heads all the time.

I think I remember that Ian Flynn had to fight tooth and nail to use the SatAM characters regardless. Like Sega of Japan was adamant that it should refocus to mainly the video game world.

It's finally time for the long awaited conclusion of the Unleashed Saga.

...

...

...

Well that's the end of that drawn out story arc. Any thoughts?

chip looks like he just came inside the planet

Ok finish to a promising arc

Was that before they were re-designed to look like the modern Japanese video game characters?

Possibly. I think the re-designs were more to make them fit the style and be on the same level as the video game cast; Antoine and Sally start to look like jokes when everyone else is a low-grade superhero at least.

Man, whenever I see Gemerl, I just remember Shard and get sad.

That these boring ass game adaptations are worse than anything. Plus Chip is a lame character.

If something kills the comics for Sonic? It's these unwanted game adaptations because it's not like the games have good stories to begin with.

Are these of years old games?

I wish they made gemerl silent, like in the games. Would have made him not a copy of shard, too

Sonic Unleashed was the first main series game after 06, so almost a decade. It's not like they don't have plenty of time to catch up, though, especially since Boom is a seperate continuity. (that had its own comics, oddly enough)

Gemerl is pretty obviously being used as a substitute for Shard, much like how Breezie is for Mammoth Mogul.

Nothing can ever replace Shard. RIP in pieces you glorious robot faggot.

Can I go to the alternate timeline where he lost. Fuck's sake Flynn, I know you can write well but the only reason you want those characters is because you can use them however you want, and considering Flynn is kind of a liberal pussy, he doesn't use them that well.

Don't tell me this "liberal pussy" is using the characters to spread his leftist/liberal propaganda trash. You know like how Zootopia did? Pfft competent female cops, what a joke.

He is a pussy as are almost all comic book writers. I mean if they weren't why would they be in the comic book industry eh? But no,

Flynn hasn't done anything worrying nor can he because Sega would hang him by the balls if he ever tries to go the Penders route. He won't be turning any of the official female game characters into some sort of *strong independant female characters* anytime soon.

But the things he does with characters like Sally and Nicole sometimes worries me. It's obvious he wants to go full Bryke and make Sally/Nicole a thing just to get the fame of making a LGBT pairing canon or whatever. But what really bothers me is characterization of Sally. He kind of uses her like Penders used Knuckles, but due to the new rules he doesn't go overboard.

...

he said it in a podcast or twitter i think. but yeah he said something like "you could read Sally and Nicole's relationship as if it was something more that friendship" or whatever. Lemme get back to you in three days with a source.

Now that I think about it…

Huh oh.

Knuckles is a nigger and Amy is a pure hwhite maiden (or a jap i guess)

Can we not?

can you fuck off back to tumblr you fuckng whore.

Well Sally is literally the leader of the Freedom Fighters and kind of always has been the deutoragonist of the story. The focus on her isn't new, and she's the one who's allowed to have actual character development.

She's always been the same to me. And I dislike her for the same reason I dislike Boom!Amy (Well at least she's still got other things to her character) which is her role as Bossy Team Leader Mom. Is such an American concept that I can't stand in any of your media dude.

You're not alone. The Bossy Team Leader Mom cliche you mentioned is honestly and rightfully getting despised by fresher generations of men. Oh sure there's still plenty of manginas who worship this shit, but some of this unrealistic Gynocentric propaganda is being acknowledged more and more in fanbases.

Female Leaders are a joke because by primitive instinct men do not follow female leaders. Without men? Women are nothing. Also Sally herself is a Mary Sue since she bosses Sonic around to act on her behalf when you get down to it.

You know what's funny? Sega refused to give Sonic a girlfriend to go steady with in the games because they thought that a hero who has to constantly worry about keeping his bitch happy in a relationship was lame. It wouldn't appeal to boys.

They were right. Ironically Sonic Archie (well SaTAM at first) did the opposite of Segas idea for Sonic and he was a pussy whipped servant to a twat in the name of the Girl Power wave of the 90s in which characters like Sally were created for pre-existent properties. Other examples include Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes) or Jessie (Johny Quest).

When will this Pussy on Pedestal theme and approach to Western Media die?

And Flynn seems to have to urges to give Sally any flaws whatsoever. Her "flaws" as he describers them is that she is *too* kind, too caring of others, she worries too much oh boy. It's such a shitshow, her flaws are that she is too good of a person? What the shit? This is why I wanted Sega to have more control and for Sally to get scrapped already.

Americans fucking screwed up Amy too, by turning her into Sally Lite, but at least there she has real flaws, such as being control freak, and at least she can be funny. Sally is neither funny nor does she have any real flaws.

She kind of reminds me of Asami Sato from Korra. A boring character with no real flaws and a basic personality that doesn't get expanded very much.

sally usually is shit at fights

well that wasn't on her lists of flaws and her bio says she's a capable fighter and a great tactician or some shit like that.

Even post-reboot Sally is a mary sue. What kind of name is Sally anyway? Jeez, i'm glad the Japs won over SoA and we don't have to dealt with all the amerikike shit no longer.

Where's that source, you nigger?

What would you rather have for the comics? These boring as fuck adaptations of games that came out years ago?

Adaptations like Sonic X comics and games were shit. But aren't they just adapting the videogames right now anyway? I would have that but with less pozz. And I want us to focus more on the game characters. Not the shitty ones like Chip though. God I swear Flynn was just fucking with us at that point. No one even likes Chip. And it's not as if the comic made him any better.

Ian has said on his forum that he has no plans to introduce LGBT elements into the comic book. His reasons involved not feeling Sonic was a good place to address the issues, it being Sega's property, and he is absolutely sick of the shit that comes with shipping and that would only add to it.

Sally/Nicole has little chance of happening any time soon under him.

Now, Evan Stanley has said she sees Gold as being bi/gay. So, that could be a thing at some point.

Where are my Lara-Su Chronicles?

Soon nigga.
We gonna get Echidna on your ass.

Forgot my picture.

Good, let the pozzing commence. Archie already pozzed the fuck out off Archie. So my friend, do you see why I don't trust Archie at all? I know Americans, if those japs don't keep them in check they'll do it, especially since it's current year, and next year is gonna be even more of a shitshow of comicbook pozzing.

To further prove my point here's something more recent. American comics, they always deliver on the pozzin'
vulture.com/2016/02/archie-jughead-asexual.html

Now, Evan Stanley has said she sees Gold as being bi/gay.

Why.

Do you have to ask?

That's what I'm saying- doing game adaptations is boring as fuck unless they mix things up a bit. I'm not asking for the Penders era of dumb OCs and retarded melodrama to return and I'm not asking for dumb social commentary either- I just want fun stories with the Sanic universe.

I am almost shocked they have been able to contain themselves for so long. Maybe it's SoJ, maybe it's something else. But just know, I don't have high hopes for 2017.

Wow, look at that amazing dialog!

Was this written by an actual highscool student? It just flows so naturally!

No, it won't. She herself has said that this will never be adressed in the comic but she likes to believe that is like that making the whole thing pointless and just a prove that she was fishing for the social justice points
Still, that doesn't means that all the comic has been compromised. I have to see yet the day that they decide to go full retarded and add those things to the comic, I thinks you fags are being paranoid as fuck

Mind giving a link?

I've seen the post where it says "not yet canonized," but if she said more, I missed it.
