How will we design a postcapitalist stellaris mod?
How would production for use be modeled in a 4x/grand strat game? Is the revolution complete if the workers state still exists in opposition to the various despotic empires in space?
Basically, you distribute resources based on need without using the medium of exchange.
I don't know what that would look like in Stellaris.
Jace Morales
I guess just flavor text.
Noah Gray
Well, of course it would have to leave a lot to the imagination. One player manually controlling the distribution of all goods would be impossible. What you see in Victoria II and HOI where you make broad orders on what kind of factories or units are produced is about the best that can be done. Basically just substitute the party for the player and leave gosplan to the AI.
Julian Long
Paradox has been normalfagging their games for the last few years, but this one actually gives me a massive space hardon, they better not fuck up
Gabriel Phillips
Someone on /r/socialism was making a mod for Stellaris:
Society has long since evolved past the insignificant rivalries and concerns of the individuals. We are numerous but one, and the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. We stand truly equal.
Effects :
+50% Slavery tolerance -5% Food requirement
Fanatic Collectivist Collectivist - Individualist
The purpose of the individual is simple: strengthen the collective. To enter the blackness of space we move as one, and we shall not be weakened by wanton separatism.
Effects :
+100% Slavery tolerance -10% Food requirement
I know it's made by liberal hipsters so I shouldn't be surprised but fuck
Blake Taylor
What makes you think it'll actually be decent?
Nicholas Reed
I've been watching the playthroughs, there's hundreds of hours worth of videos, it looks awesome, and like I said, their past games have had issues but I still had fun. I suggest this, stop listening to chanfags about their opinions and just play things for yourself, every board has their opinions but they're worth shit compared to your own. Also, don't buy shit unless you're pirated it first, that way if something really sucks you haven't invested anything but time.
Robert Wright
I really don't think a mod would take much, just some new traits and changing the old ones.
I had to make my space foxes race Pacifist, Xenophile, and Materialist, because the communalist trait is so shitty, and my natural allies in the game are democratic neoconservative (ie. 'liberate the filthy authoritarians by force') capitalists.
Liam Lee
>The Socialist Republic is a republic with democratically elected representatives, commited to building socialism. All means of production are operated in a state capitalist fashion and there are elections and a ruling socialist party. The Party may actually lose elections,in which case, the Socialist Republic turns into a capitalist democracy. kek >The Socialist Commonwealth is a highly decentralized minarchist democratic state in which the control of the means of production is exercised by the workers directly through economic democracy. This guy really has no clue.
I was actually interested in this game until I tried out the race generator and saw that pure ideology.
Charles Ward
fucking reddiors. How much cognitive dissonance does it take to call oneself a socialist and have no idea what the concept of "worker owned industry" is?
Jackson Moore
I'm playing as a fanatic individualist materialist direct democracy. Besides for the leader bullshit, it's pretty decent at simulating an anarchist society. My main bone to pick is that the makers of this game fell for the retarded collectivist-indivualist dichotomy meme.
DAILY REMINDER THAT RATIONAL SELF INTEREST COMBINES INDIVIDUALISM AND COLLECTIVISM
Kevin King
This could actually be Leftypol's first chance to make a leftymod for a game!
Adam Wilson
Not giving these fucks any money or attention.
Thomas Powell
hmmmmmmm
Carter Nguyen
Individualism and collectivism go hand-in-hand
Gabriel Thompson
Not Victoria 2, aside from fascist dictatorships being bizarrely strong.
Colton Lewis
It doesn't simulate socialist or communistic economies well at all in Victoria 2, it's overly simplistic which Id like to think is down to hardware limitations, but if you have a communist economy in V2, it just means that you have no capitalist investors to give you "free money " ie no factories will start up on their own or no capitalists will be able to fund your existing ones, it's the most major difference I think from playing any of the other types.
I'm hoping that they start to model economics better as hardware improves instead of higher res models and random events.
Ryan Ross
Whatever is made, I hope none of you buy it on steam.
Paradox is a fucking greedy dev, look at all the DLC for EU IV.
Carson Perez
Hoes it feel knowing there is the literal symbol for fascism as one of the flags in the game but nothing close to a hammer and sickle? Commies are so passe, fashy is in :^)
Anthony Sullivan
STFU and stand still you fuckin' amateur

I don't really care about this game very much, but if Paradox are including fascist iconography and are greedy shits who release tons of DLC, this makes me worried about the future of Vampire: The Masquerade since they've acquired the IP.
Although a Posadism mod would be incredibly dank.
David Murphy
lol
Angel Rogers
Well, this is pretty realistic.
You need capitalism so that there are factories and then you procede to socialism and communism.
Otherwise you have to be litteraly Stalin.
I will. When it's on sale with most DLCs. Next year. Paradox is not more or less greedy than any other company, in current year.
Implying it will ever be good. Implying any capitalist has the balls to actually do a post WW2 simulation and see neoliberalism defiled.
Would you prefer for Ubisoft to get Vampire?
All ya people thinking there is such a thing as a corporation that will not do anything for profit…
Also, all that needs to be done, is new, change of text and balanced bonuses, that are more realistic.

I'm aware of that fam, which is why Holla Forums taking video games so seriously and completely missing the reason why every publisher and developer keeps screwing over their customers is just laughably pathetic first-world problems bullshit.
All I want is for Paradox to make a good Vampire game. It's not like I'm going to pay for it anyways. But I would be very annoyed if there was fascist/lolbertarian bullshit in it - especially considering that Vampire has always been on the left to some degree, even if superficially.
Grayson Scott
So? Such business practices are still shit and you should pirate it anyways
Slavery is the most individualistic shit in existance.
David Sanchez
the fucking traits in this game mang
Jacob Morris
They'll make a fine Vampire game (unless they fuck up, like Sword of the Stars or Impire, because shit managment and inexperince), for the basic reason Vicky and HoI are so much pro fascism, is they are actually Imperialism Simulations.
Whenever they make non political games, they're mostly … apolitical…
How you choose to live, within capitalism is a personal choise.
You could mod it, you know!
Asher Harris
Paradox games aint fucking bethesda

Anyway, if i pirate this game, i can fullfill my dream of being spacestalin
Ryan Cook
SURE AS HELL THEY ARE NOT! Paradox games actually work!!!
(I don't think it's that hard to change text and bonuses. If you want it enough, you can learn how to make it happen. We are on the interwebs you know).
Now, don't get me wrong! Am not saying, "go buy an AK and start shouting at random"! (unless you shoot bourgies). But withing the terms and limits of capitalism, not buying a game, if and when you have the consumer power to do it, has no actuall effect on capitalism. Neither does buying said game.
Is it any different, buying Stellaris at 10€ and buying a book that you like? Or going to a cinema? What actual difference does it make?
PIRATE IT AND POST THE STORYLIKE, FAGGOT!
Mason Barnes
Okay, moaning old poorfag back again:
1) Face it, you're all just going to end up playing as the Culture (anyone think Holla Forums would go for Affronters or Iridians?).
2) This is going to cost a fortune in both cash and time. If you're serious about trying to change society wouldn't that time and money be better spent on getting fit or learning new skills? Inb4 REEEEEE Normies get out.
Jace Martinez
Making a few mods is going to cost money?
Also
Fine, i will have a look into it. I have 2 days off starting tomorrow anyway.
Christopher Nguyen
For now, that time of mine, for one, is spent being exploited by capitalists. Also "No fun allowed". Also, implying managing a galactic emprire isn't skillz.
I'll never have day off again until october.. . I WANT MY (no)LIFE BACK .. DAMN YOU CAPITALISM!
Lucas Rivera
Pls buy
Ryan Phillips
No, I don't think so. Also, see steam reviews of EU4 and it's gamebreaking DLC. You're going to have to pay at some point.
Plz. If you want to procrastinate and muck about in resource management sims, fair enough. You're having a giraffe if you're telling me it is in any way revolutionary. Even if you want to use it as a method to build affinity with comrades the high cost of the product limits who can join in.
Camden Williams
hardly, mods with no graphical or advanced content (primarily script based) really aren't that hard to make
I made a mod 15,000 people downloaded using microsoft excel
Well this part is admittedly true so far. Federations are shit though. Wish I would have just stayed as an alliance.
Chase Jones
Ay yo take your shitty memes back to /gsg/
God I hate how far /gsg/ has fallen. They were actually complaining about how "the left is stealing anarchism" a while back.
Cameron Taylor
I am a faggot, that since I have money, I buy when on sale. I have friends that play EU4, and never bought anything. Your "inaccesibility because price" argument is invalid. Also, the DLCs are fine and if you want you can backtrack.
So, now, all you need, is constructed theory on what each trait does and how it is described, and for user to mod it into the game.
IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
"the left is stealing anarchism" I hate the west. Why don't we nuke it all and get on with it?
Jack Butler
It's not just the mod though, is it? There's the base package and the reams of DLC plus the large amount of time invested learning to play. I've got the Wargame series on my steam account (because USSR and Best Korea military sim) and I just don't have the time to invest in learning to play it well because I want to exersize, learn new things and communicate with people.
I see lots of steam reviews saying otherwise about EU4.
Charles Wright
You only need to pay for Paradox games if you want to play on the official multiplayer server. MP in gsgs is pretty shitty imo. I prefer to autistically map paint alone.
Cameron Sullivan
>They were actually complaining about how "the left is stealing anarchism" a while back. I'm pretty sure I was there for that Fucking painful I've basically stopped browsing there now
Hudson Kelly
And I've seen a lot of people saying "socialism doesn't work" and so on. Have you played it and seen it's shit? If not, then do it and come back to tell us why.
Truth is, I haven't played EU in a long time, but CK2 was mostly fine last time I checked. Even without the latest DLCs installed. Are DLCs overpriced now? SURE! Do you have to buy them at launch? Why buy anything at launch?
Camden Richardson
>Why buy anything when you have torrents? FTFY
Julian Wilson
I'm enjoying the game but I'm seeing it's limitations and issues, for one, locking government types behind race ethics, it's as annoying as other PDX games, they always do this.
I also hate how they limit your ability to expand by punishing you with various negative stats, just like in other paradox games, god I hate this shit, I just want to build a shitload of colonies without having revolts and shit every 5 minutes just because pops don't like having my capital far away, I don't give a fuck that D.C. is a thousand miles away, so why should people on another planet as long as their needs are met, stop trying to wall off that ability.
also the portraits are annoyingly limited as well(hair styles, skin colors, beards, there aren't even hats or anything), and all the women have permanent bitch face for some reason, hope that changes
Ryder Morris
kek
The huge alien variety is something really cool about it.
The real issue of the game is there's fucking nothing to do if you play as a peaceful expansionist, nobody attacks you and you can take up a third of the board without anyone standing in your way. And by that time if you did want to start a war it would be just be a boring as shit exercise in sending your zerg fleets. Also, there's seemingly no option to order fleets, even when you have to use provinces so only a couple of your planets show up on the sidebar.
I thought I was having fun while playing it but, I'm pretty sure I actually wasn't.
I agree that Paradox are obvious fash sympathisers, which, it's nice to have the option, but playing as liberal democracy there's borderline nothing to do.
And let's not even get into the non-existent politics/governance, elections don't have parties or anything, only individuals who do nothing but give you 10% bonuses in certain things
Caleb Hughes
As I answer my anarchist friend that accuses me of the same thing, (all ya anarkids and your accusations), since I have a job, and get enough money, and don't spend them anywhere else, what is wrong with buying games and having them on my steam library?
Would having them doing nothing in the bank be any different?
A) Don't you want it to be REALISTIC??? (Mod it). B) Do you smell the cosmetic DLC in the air? Sold for 2€ per pack? THAT HOW CAPITALISM WORKS!
You mean it's JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PARADOX GSG????
Isaac James
well, sure. i'm not saying I bought it or really expected it to be that good.
But now that my empire is the biggest on the map there's absolutely nothing to do
Could they at least have let you automate science and construction ships? I mean god damn
Wow, its like its not easy to build empires and you have to strategies.
Noah Lopez
So what do you guys think?
Landon Walker
I played EU4 when it first came out and hated it, but twenty expansion packs approximately 200 DLCs later it is actually better in some ways than EU3.

This. 200 DLCs later, modern paradox games are good.
3 DLCs later, Fallout 4 will still not be RPG.

I've been playing it since release, I'm having fun, it has a lot of problems and needs a shitload more content than supplied, and patches, but it's still engaging. I'll wait a couple years after they shit out all their DLCs and patches before buying it, like I've always done with PDX games
Dominic Ward
The biggest problem I have is the engine cant seem to handle more than 500 ships on screen at once without completely failing to function. Later in game even the galaxy map is unusable. Same problem the Supreme Ruler series had that made it unplayable to this day.
Christopher Gonzalez
i actually went for xenophile materialist foxs aswell
Ethan Rogers
let us yiff in communism together my brother
I pirated the game, and I enjoy it, but it seems like there are long stretches of the game where there is simply nothing to do. I'm hemmed in by allies and enemies on all sides, but because I'm not president of the federation I made (it rotates between the members of the federation) I can't declare war without leaving it. So I'm kind of just enjoying this classic paradox gameplay of watching buckets fill up on my technology screen.
When you're first starting off it's pretty enjoyable. You explore, find anomalies, and random events happen. For one of my playthroughs part of my fleet split off into Neoreligious separatists and I had to hunt them down. There are minor races too that are behind in technology that you can study like in Star Trek. You can even abduct and dissect them, "Active Study," which eventually the subject race reacts to. Stuff like that is neat.
This times one million. It's neat, but empty. Diplomacy is really limited. Racial options are really limited. The interface seems really limited, too.
Download, but don't buy.

I think he's talking about bourgeois individualism.
I.E. - rights for property owners and the freedom to consume.
Well if bourgie individualism allows for slavery then it is not an ethos of individualism and therefore irrelevant to the discussion about the different ethos found in the game.

i guess jewish brainfarts like communism could work in a sci-fi world which doesn't follow any rules of physics or common sense; just like communist idiots believe their retarded ideology could work if only real humans and laws of nature didn't exist in the real world

god damn, yes. my stupid allies/subjects just send all their fleets to one of mine and it kills my computer trying to handle fleets with literally five thousand ships in them.

What do you think this is? 2005???

Anthony Peterson
You should really stop being so entitled
Luke Morris
Not just bourgeois. Every defense of slavery (from modern Ayn-craps wanting to start a market in babies and bring back literal debt slavery) to the old arguments in the US Civil War to the disagreement between Socrates' ideal city state (complete collectivism, no slaves) and Aristotle's ideal city state (a system of nested absolute dictatorships) is founded upon individualism. The government is interfering in my right to own people.
Or just spend more than five minutes thinking about it (something that is anathema to Paradox: Just Release a Beta and Patch it Later). Could any one Borg have been permitted to intercede itself between another Borg and the the Borg as a whole? They don't even get names, let alone ownership of each other.

Sounds like Nobunaga's Ambition.
In fact, the diplomatic aspect of Nobunaga's Ambition is tons better than anything I've seen in a Western strategy game.
