Religiouse Leftists

I have a vew questions for the religiouse leftists here or general religiouse lurkers.

Why do you choose to follow a religion?
Does your upbringing have any effect on your decision to follow your religion?
How do you define god? Do you see God as a person or as the sacred idea of man?
Do you tolerate anyone who humor's or parody's your religion or god?
Have you read any pro-religiouse socialist literature like The Kingdom of God is inside of you by Tolstoy?

*The Kingdom of God Is Within You

I just want to believe there's more to the universe than its mere existence.

I prefer the unpleasant truth

Why not create your own meaning instead of submitting to the higher ideal of God. Is it the community or the message that God Presents?
Do you submit to interpretation or create your own interpretation of the source material? (Koran or Bible or whatever)

Why? There is more enough stuff in the universe and just on this planet to keep you interested for a life time? No need to spook your self with some mystical otherness that exist "somewhere"/

*Is it the community or the message that God Presents that appeals to you?

Theres no problem with having personal beliefs, or being for communism out of moral reasons, so long as practical action can be backed up by "common" reasoning as well.

Because I hate everyone and I need an outlet for it
My parents beat me till I was 19. You decide
I am god.
I really don't care
wew spooky :^]

...

Whoa!

As an Anarchist I'm not AGAINST religion but rather i'm against organized religion. It's too hierarchical and allows for the masses to become brainwashed by the corrupt elite within the Church hierarchy. (i.e The Dark Ages) So I would probably join up with my comrades and pull a CNT against the major churches supporting the enemy. Personally though I believe in God, and Jesus is a pretty good role model for Anarchists (Granted be it more Anarcho-Pacifists). And also Mother Earth and all that.

Because it's 2016

On a serious note it's because I've had prayers answered and Christianity is the religion that makes the most sense to me considering the current state of the world.

Maybe.

The Holy Trinity.

Yes.

Not yet; I'll get to it eventually.

Religious leftists are just dumb tbh.

Weren't the Anarkiddies burning churches even before the civil war started? That might have been the reason the church was so against them tbh.

The existence of one or more gods wouldn't add any meaning to the universe because there would still be the question of how those gods came to be. Does a bacterium's existence have more meaning just because it's growing in a petri dish rather than in the wild?

The republicans were the first to start the anti-church campaign; and while the whole killing nuns shit was completely unjustified, the church paid the state to assassinate anarchist figures and other revolutionaries

...

they're were plenty of religious people fighting against Franco. If you want to blame anyone for the churches getting destroyed, blame the Pope for endorsing Fascism and the catholic spies for trying to sabotage the revolution.

Mudslime here

A good portion of Leftist ideas that I hold were born in the Mosque and in discussions with religious scholars, Imams, and my father.

Infinite Omnipotent and Omniscience being that exists outside of Time and Matter.

Yeah.

The Islamic literature that I read growing up probably wont be considered ideologically Socialist but it did shift me to the left.

Ibn Taymiyyah and Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhab are not my comrades.

Rather Ali, Hassan, and Hussein :^)

To overcome the despair of finitude

Probably, both my parents were atheists so I had no way to channel my existential angst.

God of the bible, evaluated by a personal postmodern theology (like most christians today do, though I'm closest to catholicism)

I see God as the un-graspable infinite

Yes, but I think they should read Kierkegaard and Stirner.
I mean seriously, judging lifestyles in 2016? It's the current year.

No, but I like to think that if he weren't contemporary to socialism and knew of it more, Kierkegaard would be either a communist or some sort of anarchist.
I think most ways to overcome despair have been founded on faith, anyway so as I see it most if not all communists are religious in some way.

So most of your motivation for it comes from you looking for a savior of your dispair? What cha dispairing about? No controle over the future?

Read Kierkegaard, I'm really too lazy to explain it. But yeah, simplified it's that.

Christianity for me is a cure to: anxiety, despair, angst, anguish etc etc.

It's a "truth which is true for me".
People say it's not a truth, but they don't understand that the individual is higher than the universal, and hence anything I deem truthful is truthful.

Despair is a necessary part of having lost one's self, it's occurring when our finite and infinite aspects are imbalanced. A dialectical approach to christianity rebalances them, brings up back into communion to our faith.

Can you just quickly demonstrate your powers by declaring that the moon will be bright green tomorrow?

why would I do that? Does that alleviate my despair?

If your choice of what to deem truthful can alter reality, then you really have no reason to feel despair. Why not just wish your despair away?

See

Yeah, you're right. I'm not sure why I'm bothering to argue with someone who talks like a stereotypical snake-oil salesman. I suppose someone has to be buying all those quantum spirit healing crystals.

That didn't answer his question.

Go back to bed Richard Dawkins.

Why do you assume I care whether you join me or not?

I also find it pretty ironic you're talking to a Physics student about pseudo-science.

Why not? Also my GF I'd so there's that
No I was raised a different religion and have flirted with others
God is God, a unique being.
Sure
I'll get around to it

All ya niggaz need Greek-Orthodoxy. It is what you want it to be. Left, right, whatever.

Seriously now,

For social reasons. I actually don't any more. On papers I am christian and am not a faggot enough to start fagging about atheism. Church is a social event anyway.
I used to go to church till I was 14. Then the village's priest changed and I saw organized relegion is a corrupt pile of shit. And then I stoped.
There is no god, and even if there is, it doesn't matter for us.
I believe that the universe is a simulation, running along other simulations (paralel universes), those who made it have no control over it and in the end all information will be stored in black holes.
I do it myself. Especialy the priesthood, being as shit as the priesthood Jesus was against.
Socialism and relegion go fine together, as long as the priesthood is not corrupt as fuck.

Here. Have a PC cartoon, with partial commentary on it.

You know what? No. I'm fucking done with seeing this bullshit on this board. I'm serious. Since when is everyone just okay with this aspie christian anime avatar using faggot and his possie of christian niggers? I'm fucking done with this. Bakunin refuted it, Kropotkin refuted it, MARX FUCKING REFUTED IT, Lenin refuted it. makhno, Malatesta, Engels, Trotsky, and every other fucking leftist except for fucking Tolstoy. I'm sick of this bullshit, I wouldn't be so fucking salty if I knew half of you weren't fucking fat weeb aspies. Pull your head out of your shell and quit being a fucking pussy. Come on.

Are you that guy who makes the monthly anti christianity thread? Calm down. Rebel is postmodern and I'm only one person. That's hardly a mob.

Also:

Have a drink and calm the fuck down. I'm pretty sure most of the posters on this board reject religion, we just don't think it's worth alienating/can't be bothered arguing with every jesus junky that comes along. As long as it's not causing them to support reactionary politics who really cares?

Let them have their opium.

He was also a liberal at that point in time. What's your point?

(sage for double post)

...

His hatred for God never died though.

As a concept perhaps, older marx was definitely an atheist.
