Oldfags?

Can any oldfags tell me what Holla Forums was like in it's olden days back on HalfChan?

I've heard that it's barely even a shell today of what it used to be after reading some ED articles

Nigger I have been lurking more. I found about Holla Forumsday, SA, ED, and insurgency. The habbo raids, hackers on steriods, chanalogy, etc. I just wanted to hear your guys perspective on it because most of you guys were halfchan oldfags. And I wanted know things like if Holla Forums was ever good.

why would i bother to reply to this thread?

I would guess you did so you could make him feel bad in the hopes that he works harder for the things he wants.

The memes we all loved back then are the reddit cancer of today. I still remember when rage comics were made and posted on Holla Forums unironically.

I'm fairly certain most people here are newfags that started lurking no earlier than 2011-ish, myself included.
I'd try more obscure imageboards rather than here, OP.

There are at least some of us here you newfag trash. I've been browsing imageboards since 2007.

Do you want a prize?

Holla Forums was always atrocious, but it wasn't as awful as it is today.

Holla Forums was absolutely never good, but it used to be a nice escape from even less good real life. The memes were better because they weren't forced down your throat and we kept posting them because they were genuinely humorous or relatable. I'm probably going to get hella shit for saying this one, but even the YLYL threads were better. They weren't full of cancerous normie pics, some of the now stale pics were actually funny the first couple of times, and of course we didn't have that goddamn banana. There was just more original content and it was produced at a far faster rate. If there was a shitposter, he would at least put effort into it so it was kind of funny and not just a complete waste of space. If there was some thread somebody didn't like, they knew how to hide it instead of making a new thread bitching about it. We were less political and, by extention, less politically divided. We didn't go troll to make a statement or difference, and we didn't turn people down just because "muh personal army"; we did horrible things to fucking anyone because it was funny. Fuck, I need a drink.

Holla Forums on cuckchan was complete shit after like 2011

it stopped being interesting and having hourly happenings after around 2009.

I have been here since I'm 17, is that long enough for you?

This.

It was always "bad", but it was a much different kind of bad than you think of now. It was a bad that you could only stand for an hour or so, but could only stand to be away from for an hour or so. Not like now where both 4 and 8's Holla Forums threads don't inspire anyone to care if they even exist.

Anarchy vs. Autism

Holla Forums was never good.

It began in the gutter and then went downhill.

Holla Forums was good in 2002

Like Holla Forums in 2014.
God I miss it.

i recall there being a lot of boatlights spam

gotta miss that simple homepage

this is much better.

how new are you?

2005 here

i miss it, things were very simple

you'd see cp sometimes but who cares, 4chan had this reputation as this genuinely scary underground website. didn't live up to it much it was mostly weirdos making jokes

If that prize is you killing yourself, I'll take it.

Trips!

fuck

user…

it was basically like this web.archive.org/web/20051130032445/http://www.orlyowls.com/

You won't find any oldfags. Oldfags arent going to give you a serious reply. Everyone else will claim to be oldfags because its an edgy title to hold on muh secret internet club, but they're lying, and even if they aren't, its better to assume they are they probably are

I arrived to 4chan in 2010, by then, the board was already beginning its decline. Iirc, it was the fappening when i noticed things started to go downhill really quickly. Of course by then it was already something that was somewhat known by normies but not entirely understood or cared about. Think of the deepweb stories of today. People know about it, but they stay away either because they dont know how it works, because of its infamy or the like. You'd at least hear about some asshole in highschool who got kicked off the computers for using le edgy 4chan site, but that's about it. Now, 4chan is pretty much mainstream and is the PR sacrificial goat that all the other chans indirectly use to shift the blame on when a controversy is traced back to some chan. Whether the responsible was 4chan or some other chan, normies blame 4chan.

I got there in 2004 after 5chan died. I used to tell people when 4chan started becoming a household word that I was there back then and about how it used to be, but I just gave up after a while. It's just too difficult to explain compared against what it is now. It's like trying to explain what it was like in the 1960s or during WW2, you basically just had to be there.

I saw my first ever cp porn on Holla Forums

in the really old days it was mostly just anime pictures

then came the CP and other weird shit

If you don't know the answer to this you haven't lurked enough

Hello

...

It was basically the wild west. CP was freaking everywhere. You could not avoid it. However, these kids are right Holla Forums was never "good". They used to to say it was like "Pissing in an ocean of piss". Not really sure why, but I am happy the Game is gone.

So, if you are a pedo it was great, but otherwise, it was pretty much the same, just less inhibited. A LOT of people went to jail, which stopped the inhibitions.

Also, a lot of us grew up and have families now and just check in on the next generation from time to time.

Pic Related: Me being interested in the next generation.

go do your homework

Holla Forums was hit or miss, and it was usually miss, and as time went on, there were fewer and fewer good threads.

i miss pre-sjw moot, insurgency, raids and the patriotic nigras.

people always look to the past with rose-tinted glasses, and imageboards are no exception

old 4chan Holla Forums sucked even more than it does now

take a look at some ancient screenshots, they were all namefags

holy shit wasn't there a janitor named snacks around here a while ago? it's a small world

...

How do you know people went to jail?

Now repeat this post for an entire thread and you're getting close to the original experience. The thing is, there was nothing like shitposting on image boards back in the day. It was like BBS and forums but on meth, mixed with some Fark and Something Awful. Both relevant and irrelevent at the same time, random but somehow showing common themes and trends, old Holla Forums was truly random in an organic and non-ironic way. That specific situation can never happen again, just as any of us can never step into the same river twice.

You fucking loser.

This is my experience. I started lurking in 08. I was too autistic then to really understand memes at that time. With Internet available for the first time, and being a fan of anime I was excited at all the new knowledge I had access to. The trolling and raids were fun like the Jessie slaughter train wreck. But over time the cancer grew and the fags response was to try to make half Chan as toxic as possible to anyone new, and now /b is a more edgy take on R9k.
I hung out with captain cornflake a few times last year and he reminded me how fun it used to be. Which is why I got on this image board.
But really old fags and new fags are the equivalent of the beer belly burn out. Stained Metallica shirt, drinking some shit white and blue beer, with a broken down fire bird in the driveway that will run one day. Talking about how great the past used to be. Talking about 2004 as if it were the 70's.
Anime image boards have always had a good amount oh shit, the biggest shift in tone after 2011, was that before hand it wasn't a bunch of mildly depressed faggots wallowing in their failures. It wasn't optimistic by any stretch, but there wasn't all this pepe woe is my life bullshit.

As a friendly reminder, /r9k/ was moot's attempt at making Holla Forums2.0. He wanted a tamer meme factory to pull in new kids for a PR stunt, except it went horribly wrong. That's why axed /r9k/ when he axed /new/, because it triggered his feefees for not being the love child he wanted.

The only people who say X board was good in the olden days, are all newfags. Holla Forums back in 2005-2007 was fun, yes, but that was it. You still had your cancer, you still had shitty mods, you still had Moot being a faggot.

At least you guys had moot though

moot betrayed and murdered our boards

have some rimming

thats funny in 2007 it seemed like that was every thread

It was never good, but when captcha and Alice/MLP spam happened, that's when it died for me.

Maybe it just didn't bother me at the time. Or maybe nostalgia blinders are on. But now I would describe /b as a sad circle jere of green frogs using their tears as lube.
