His name is John Campbell and this is webcomic, his claim to fame is going nuclear after an unsuccessful kickstarter of his book, which led him to delete all of his online content.

I'm trying to look at this like a metaphor, or apply the experience to my own life, but I'm not getting anything.
It's depressing, but more in a physical way than an emotional way.
I'm tired after reading it, but not sad.
It seems like it's just a formula being followed, with no real emotion behind it.
It's just (outlandish premise + outlandish desire) - outlandish setting.
(Ninja Hero + Defeat Supervillain) - World with Supervillains
You could put anything in there, draw it in black and white with monotone dialogue, and call it a sad comic.
(Talking Fish + Desire to be with humans) - Ability to Breathe out of water
