The time isn't exactly favorable for cartoons of any sort, barring a revolution in the industry. It's still polluted by incompetent libshits and meme humor. Bad art, bad writing all around with zero fucks to give about the medium.

I feel that a Harvey remake should intentionally be retro - have Wendy as what she is, a little rural witch; have Audrey as a li'l firecracker and so on. With a bit of skill and nuance these characters and settings could be pure gold. Remember the PPG? It's timeless, while nuPPG is "modern" in all the wrong ways. There's no explicit need for cartoons to be realistic or within our time. I'd enjoy the fuck out of a 1950s America style cartoon that isn't some sort of shitty statement or deconstruction. They see cartoons as vessels for a "message" instead of a story, and they see their poorly drawn shit as expressions of their "originality."
