i was a lad when they aired voyager originally. that series was always on life support. it was syndicated on the UPN -a shitty network where they stuck all the meh sci fi shows back then. It only got popular as part of the weekend sci fi block supported by hercules xena and the like(1995 and 96 was a great year for sci fi series) I was in the crowd that discussed nerdy shit and saved our lunch money for the arcade. Literally no one discussed this show. i even hated it when it first aired. No one took a female lead of a sci fi show seriously, and it didnt help she was short and old with that big irish head and terrible first season hairstyle. they squandered what little milf potential she had. Hell, if I was making a TV show I'd make it about space Nazis, genetically modified ubermensch, and then use them as a vehicle to explore how alien races and different human societies react to them, and test the limits of their ideological framework.

What I'm saying, basically, is that you don't need "human" characters, the very perfection of a given society can be a fault all its own.

Sci-fi is about predicting the future, and if your prediction of the future is that everything will/should stay exactly the same (as conservative ideology preaches, if not full reactionary going back to middle ages) but with robots, its not very interesting to begin with.

Futurism needs to be realistic, and its realistic to expect societal changes due to the impact of technological progress.
