As far as reverse image searches go, Google is easily rivaled by Yandex now. Google remains number one for general web searches though which is more important.

eh, in the end it's just someone trying to convince you of something over the internet -- you can justify your trust in startpage's statement by economic arguments but at the end of the day it requires faith. That's why you take other steps, if necessary, to prevent tracking. You don't want to put 100% of your trust in any one system, no matter how reliable it seems, right?

I actually find ddg best for convenience, purely because the !bang system allows you to skip the results page when you already know which resource you're going to want. But searx gives lots of results from everywhere, which is nice. I'm no fanboy for any of them. No product's perfect, that's why these threads keep getting made and keep getting comments.

That's an excellent point. I'm not sure, but I think you're able to run your own instance of Searx, while I think you can't with Startpage. This is a major benefit.

Not really trying to shill here because I still find Google to be more useful than Qwant. I use Qwant by default but if I can't find something on the first search I just open up Jewgle and it usually works. Fortunately this doesn't happen often enough for me to really mind so it's worth using Qwant with the knowledge that I'm not being tracked and datamined.

I always install Qwant as a backup search engine. I'm still using Startpage as my main though because I like the site layout better and because ixquick.eu won't work with palememe. Does Qwant normally have better results?
