Prove me wrong
Firebenders were the superior race
They were basically beat by one child and a handful of allies.
They were beaten by the Avatar, not no mere child.
Aang would've gotten killed if he hadn't managed to use the avatar state
But they killed all those pacifist Air Nomads, that was really cool, right?
They had 100 fucking years to seal the deal, and they couldn't do it. They had to wait for the god comet to come again. Hell, it's questionable how much real progress they made in the war while Aang was asleep, they gained most of their victories early on with the first comet.
Well yeah, they're Imperial Japanlite with some China thrown in. And the Japanese are the Whites of East Asian.
Killing all the air nomads was kind of a dick move tho, they weren't a threat to them.
The firelord at the time just went crazy over the fact a new avatar was born into that nation so he figured he'd wipe out the whole race to be safe.
ya, but the less other races the closer the avatar is to being of the fire nation again
I think the idea is that if he killed all the airbenders including the Avatar, the cycle would be broken because no airbenders would mean no airbending Avatar so the Avatar would cease to exist
Surprised no one mentioned that the Fire Benders are the only ones who create their element (fire) without using the environment around them (like water or earth).
While Airbenders would be the next biggest threat to due having air everywhere (above water). (We saw how Earth and Water benders were imprisoned, how would you imprison a air bender with tech at the time so they can't fight back?)
good point on the fire benders. I always liked that about them and how they generate it from inside. made them unique.
Their real world counterpart were way superior
Get out Ozai.
I mean the Earth Kingdom is a large swath of land so it'd be difficult to conquer. It's like trying to conquer Russia.
It's literally like trying to conquer China, just ask Imperial Japanese Army.
Most of them are dead, that and they failed to conquer China.
build an airtight room and pump in just enough air at a time to keep the person alive while simultaneously pumping out CO2.
The reason they had trouble taking the Earth Kingdom is that the EK was able to just throw wave after wave of conscripted soldiers against the better-trained, yet less numerous Fire Nation soldiers (think Operation Barbarossa). Also, their smaller numbers made it difficult to hold the territory they captured. They were only able to take the EK using infiltration and subterfuge, not open warfare.
Something else I was wondering though is why the FN didn't just go west and attack Ba Sing Se from the east. Unless the world of Avatar is flat, which would be fucking retarded.
They got their collective ass handed to them by a 12 year old pacifist.
earth kingdom was more powerful tbh, just had shit leaders. imagine if the dai li actually fought instead of gestapoing and suiciding people for the earth queen.
besides, the earth avatar made an island and a lady warrior cult with white faces, bouncy tits and round asses. and, of course was pretty *tuff*.
i don't think the writers thought this through fam.
Exactly
Monkey feathers! Look at this anti-Firetism! It's like another eclipse!
They've thought about there being more to the world than just the Fire islands, the Earth continent and the Northern/Southern Water Tribe but dropped it.
Plus in Korra, we see that the world is round during Harmonic Convergence.
Though I like to pretend Korra doesn't exist so.
Daily reminder that the Air nation are brutal savages.
AIR NOMADS ARE ANTI FAMILY
AANG WAS RAISED BY A QUEER MONK
...
I thought the air nomads were based off of tibetan monks not muslims.
...
why did they go west to east? why didn't they go west and take the easy way into the earth kingdom?
maybe it would take too long?
even though airbenders have a huge abundance of their element, they've got basically no real destructive capabilities with it in small scales
look at the episode where Zhao captures Aang. he had him and it took Zuko freeing him to get out
hell, all you really need is to bind them with some rope to keep them from bending at you and bind their mouth with something so they can't blow at you. their only source of breath becomes their nose, so if they airbend out of that it's nearly impossible to aim for anything decent and they risk disrupting their airflow
you're assuming that this is the entire world. there could be much more than just what's on the map
but assuming that they already mapped out the entire world, they'd have to use a gigantic military force just to get through the walls and have enough to conquer it and maintain it. even though it was the earth capital, it wasn't the only city. there were dozens of cities within the earth kingdom that could send more benders there at any time
overall, it's smarter to conquer all of the surrounding cities because you can destroy the resisting forces before they become a problem
what inspired this comic?
adding onto the conquering ba sing se plan
from the look of the map, it's a longer way going west than east to get to the earth kingdom, and lighter-than-air travel had only been invented and militarized by the fire nation after they'd conquered the earth kingdom
so you might run into various things from
and i'm sure various other things that i'm just unable to think of at the moment
It's a fan fic comic by some horribly disturbed teenage girl who really supported Zutara and Aang/Toph and so wrote a story where she makes her dreams come true and even includes a scene which involves Katara getting poisoned by Mai and miscarriages, Mai being jealous she stole Zuko from her, when Katara finds out, she blood bends the arteries in her skull to pop.
And the artist drew Katara's and Toph's tits the size of milk cartons.
jeez thats messed up.
Yeah, this. They took out the Air Nomads with a surprise attack and hundred-year buff, and spent the next century consolidating their gains and wearing down the Southern Water Tribe. They only made headway into the Earth Kingdom before then by treachery and exploiting Ba Sing Se's corrupt government, after twice failing with direct invasion even with overwhelming force.
Reminder that if bending were real, Earthbenders would be running shit.
>military camps can raise instant fortifications and obstacles, wherever they are
Probably be a lot more devastating conflicts. We'd need like a super nuke as a deterrent to keep people from constantly fighting with bending.
except that as soon as Azula and the Dai-lee took over the capital, the Earth Kingdom fell. There was no attempt to remove the Fire Nation from control, at least none by the Earth Kingdom military.
I think it's been discussed before, but I think it was implied that benders were never a large portion of the population, with the exception of the Air Nomads. We never see large armies of benders, only smaller groups. They were most likely used for the most important military operations, not just as rank-and-file soldiers.
At the end the series is about moderation or balance.
This, airbenders=master race.
I took a surprise attack, Sozin's comet and 8 firesoldiers per airbender to kill them.
that's a nice headcanon ya got there
They should be called fire creators
Why does this sound like it would make an awesome set of abilities for an RTS game?
Literally "For the Evuls" the Nation.
Nothing superior about them, they got their asses kicked by literal children, managed to murder a bunch of peaceful air nomads the equivalent to taking a machinegun into a hippy convent and killing everyone, then proclaming you're a super awesome badass
hey, you'd get my praises.
...
More like "disturbed and ridiculously horny".
So basically Game of Thrones, Avatar-style?
You mean like Korra?
:^)
Seriously though, no, Azula and Mai are the only ones who died iirc, Azula dying in Sokka's arms after she had lost her memory since the beginning of the comic and dated him.

I FINALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO POST THIS AGAIN
>yfw all the shitposting and keks that were shared over this atrocity of a comic shitting on the franchise became macabre when Korra actually used some of the same retarded concepts, the most infamous being day time bloodbending
I'm sure Bryke and Co. prowled around the internet for stuff to do in Korra. Hence, not only the failed attempt to pander to shippers, but fanficlike characters and events such as the Red Lotus.
I doubt it, even fanfic isn't this cancerous.
user.
Only one.
Like, I know the comic is shit and I shouldn't question it, but…
This kid was like 10 when he disappeared and his entire race was murdered. Like even ignoring the whole crap about brides wouldn't even happen considering it seemed like a very gender-segregated community, how would this kid know how the fuck to circumcise a woman?
Toph better get ready for no longer having a vagina.
What do you call Unalaq with Vaatu?
Autism
Unalaq like the rest of LOK was a disappoiting character. They initially seemed to have some spirituality vs modern times thing with him going on but they never took full advantage of it.. This combined with that shitty romance and the retconning going on in the Avatar Wan flashbacks and Korra losing her memory is why I think season 2 was the worst of LOK. I also remember during the season 2 finale reading the comments section of Doug Walkers reaction videos and how his fans were praising it comparing it to Pacific Rim. Seriously? Have they never seen any kaiju or tokusatsu film before? have they not seen Godzilla? Gamera? Daimajin? Kikaida or Ultraman? God fuck those plebs and fuck Doug Walker for attracting them to him.
Wait fucking what?
What the fuck did they retcon?
the avatar being bonded with rama and it being a good vs evil thing instead of a force for balance and the previous lives of avatars compounded upon itself. Though the only clever thing I liked was the Dragon teaching Wan firebending.
Also they had the humans living in cities before learning bending. I didn't like that and they contradicted the origin of the firebenders where they learned fire bending from the sun people rather than live in lion turtle cities and chuck fireballs at people.
also it contradicts what the lion turtle said about humans originally being energy benders before becoming regular benders. In LOK humans never bended energy to begin with.
that's why they conquered everything else first, there was NO military to stand against them (from the earth nation)
Best girl coming through.
Unalaq is a sloppy mess of a character. He's a failed attempt to throw what's really three premises for a major antagonist (an Ozai wannabe Northern Water Tribe Supremacist, a reactionary speaking out against the creeping social disruption enabled by recent technology as represented by Varrick, and a cultist for Avatar Satan) into one.
The flashback for Avatar Wan didn't just clash with what was established about Bending orgins and how the Avatar State works. It transformed the Avatar itself from a force of balance (as befitting an Oriental setting) to a force for "good" who bonded with the First Avatar during a Manichean battle with a Devil analogue.
This is also an example of how Avatar became too Western.
yeah that whole good vs evil thing bugged me about the flashback.
anyways, i found this yesterday, so i wanted to shill it

Wow! You managed to deduce that Avatar, the show based around a literal walking talking spirit of balance, is about balance. Golly gee, mister!
DAILY REMINDER THAT RAAVA IS THE SPIRIT OF BALANCE
They had a whole militarized nation state and advanced army, navy, and even a fucking air-force.
Implying they had to settle it in a straight up fight.
They have powered ships and 100 years to make the trip. It would not have taken to long.
no she's not. Rava is the good spirit while Vatu is bad. I hate how they put that whole good vs evil thing in avatar instead of it being about balance.
No, they're both the representation of balance and chaos, faggot.
And people said that the story of Wang was the best part of season 2 of LoK.
The problem is that they show 'balance' like Yin/Yang, but it makes the Avatar only one side. The Avatar fights for the "good" side.
That fucks shit up.
Well what the fuck is balance but yin and yang? And so? the Dark Avatar is the yin to the Avatar's yang.
Kill yourself faggot.
No, faggot. They are balance and chaos. They keep referring to them as balance and chaos. Just because it isn't subtle change.
No, cunt, you should kill yourself.
Vaatu is literally a shitty-fantasy-tier Dark Lord who wants to destroy everything, and Raava is a shitty-fantasy-tier benevolent goddess who wants to stop him. They have about as much to do with muh balance and chaos as my buttcrack has to do with aloe vera scents.
Saying something is supposed to be A, and then showing it in such a manner that it clearly shows B is the mark of shitty writing.
No faggot, you need to disembowel yourself with a rusty shovel so we'd have less retards around.
No, it's clear what they are, just because they're written like shit doesn't negate the meaning of the character and what they're represent.
Just leave kid. You're not welcome here.
Kek. Just admit it, no mater what the writers say, they are in no way close to being anything other than a bastardization of the yin/yang concept that have roughly fuck-all to do with the concepts they're supposed to represent.
It doesn't matter what I want something to be, if I've written it in such a way that it appears to be something else, then I have utterly fucking failed.
Ok now you're just pulling shit out of your ass. How in fuck's name is it a bastardization of Yin and Yang? It portrays balance and chaos as two sides of the same coin, isn't that what Yin and Yang actually is?
The Fire Nation's loss brought us Republic City. It brought us the Legend of Korra.
Truly the Fire Nation was the last hope of Benderia.
1. No, Yin-Yang isn't "Balance VS Chaos." It's balance. TLA already tackled this (in a better way) with the Divine Fishies anyway.
2. Raava was portrayed as a lighty light force for niceness. Vaatu as a darky dark force for meanness (see how he transforms spirits into man hunting monsters). Vaatu was never presented as serving a needed role for the world like Raava does, or otherwise have anything going for him to warrant anybody who's not a cartoon villain worshipping him.
They're a fucking idiot who doesn't understand the concept, I don't think they'll ever understand.
The Avatar is a force for balance, not to just be good. Also the yin/yang are all about balance, but there is no good and evil between them. They're complementary forces, not opposing. This is a bastardized and westernized version of yin/yang that isn't even needed, because we already had yin/yang with the fish in ATLA.
The 'Dark Avatar' and Vaatu are decidedly dastardly and evil, and it's shit. And unnecessary in the first place, because Avatar is not meant to be a yin to a yang or a yang to a yin. It itself is balance. That's why it cycles between men and women and each element.
Also Yin is supposed to be a dark, enveloping, feminine force while Yang is a light, projecting, masculine force. But Bryke can't have feminine villain dieties when they had a chance to make an incarnation of Toxic Masculinity the villain.
This show is celebrated as putting of people of color on display in media when it's actually one of the worst examples of cultural appropriation and using cultural motifs as costumes. Good job Bryke.
Uhhh Kuvira?
She's a woman but not traditionally feminine. She doesn't do traditional female things like make up or fashion. she's a dictator who had potential as a character but they fucked it up. They tried to do this anakin skywalker/ obi wan relationship with Suyin, the problem is Kuvira was a background character through season 3. If they wanted to have an impact with her becoming evil they should have given her more screentime in season 3 so the audience could connect with her.
I could say that Unalaq would look silly with a chick spirit merged with him, but Book Two had a giant blue Korra firing lazors from her chest so meh.
You’re talking about a bunch who shill Medieval POC and Anita Sarkcheese.
Kuvira was supposed to be a "dark mirror" of Korra (uniter, called brash, has a vagina). She, like Korra, isn't what you'd call feminine. Just look at her build.
Also, I'll point out the only example of a lead antagonist in both TLA and LOK who's both female AND feminine is Azula. And she was pitched as a boy anyway.
Kuvira lacked screentime in Book Four even though they tried to do what they did with Azula in that they showed what she was doing both on duty and off of it. This might have to do with dumping so much screentime on the Beifong's family drama and Varrick with Zhu Li's antics.
How was she brash? She acted on instinct, sure, but she wasn't brash.
She publicly challenged Korra like how Korra publicly challenged Amon. Seeing how the show had Kuvira's "honk honk dark Korra" act I reckon it's on purpose.
Kuvira challenged her as bait
he's right, nothing brash about that user
honestly I would've bought the whole dark mirror to Korra if she was a fan of Korra or had a similar personality. Korra started off as an arrogant cunt but had to learn humility. (At least in intention of the story) So you could have Kuvira start off that way but take it too far. The problem is Kuvira's personality is the opposite of Korra. She's stern and calculated while Korra more or less relied on raw power in fights rather than technique.
Honestly I kind of liked that fight. It showed that Kuvira relied on precision and technique compared to most Avatar villains who rely on raw power.
Well, she did elope and go off to conquer and unite the Earth Kingdom just because Suyin was kinda mean to her.
Korra told Kuvira right before their fight that she was healed now. As far as she knew, she was about to face the full-power Avatar. It's not like she about the Dark Avatar's antics.
Even during the fight itself, Kuvira didn't get a shot at victory until Korra DA'd out. She was damn close to getting a boulder chucked on her.
I do see the shades of Korra in Kuvira (like the already mentioned challenge). I say the issue here is that Kuvira didn't have the needed screentime to round out her character.
I do dig how Kuvira is the only lead antagonist in LOK who defined herself in battle as what a higher end Earthbender can do. Amon had his Bloodbending with no moon and bending taking, Unalaq had his dark god backing him, and Zaheer got airbending thanks to Korra's antics but still took hostages and pulled out poison.
I meant this post instead of .
Weirdly enough it seems bending is inversely proportional with population; Airbenders had a low population and most were benders, while the Earth Kingdom has the biggest population and relatively few. Fire Nation is somewhere in between, Water Tribes seem to contrast. (though the fire nation spend ages wiping out their waterbenders one by one)
From I remember hearing from the lore it's spirituality, not population. Becuase the Air Nomads were the most spiritual of them all, they end up being the only people where EVERY one of them is a bender. There is no non-bending Air Nomad.
Still brings up the question of what happens of an Air Nomad has a baby with someone who isn't one. (or maybe that's why the Air Nomads have their kids raised by monks so they never know their origin?)
Technically that was because Suyin refused to help oversee the stabilization and restoration of order in an entire fucking nation purged in anarchy.
She took the opportunity to unite the Earth Kingdom again, her marrying her son, sure. That was kind of brash but i dont recall if that happened immediately in those 3 years of being together.
According to Korra and I think the creators, mixed-race kids are a total roll of the dice. Hence why Aang's kids turned out an airbender, waterbender (I think) and nonbender.
Even regular Benders may not necessarily breed true, though the Fire Lord line managed.

It sucks how they didn't go deeper into fire nation technology or how they became so industrialised. They were capable of some truly amazing things even modern civilisation in our world with its superior technology could not accomplish but I wanted more explanation on what made it so or what or who led to it. Thanks for ruining the thread by responding to low effort b8 assholes.
They never explained this either. Like how come the Firelord's line creates such crazy powerful benders? They don't seem that spiritual outside of Iroh.
This board was fine at first too. I don't know what has change lately but mods need to step up and kick them out.

They probably could explain some shit if LOK didn't happen or if they had the same writer for it of course. Now there is no hope because franchise is ruined and dead.
there's a difference between balance and order, the opposite of chaos
I'd argue that the Earth queen was fairly feminine
waterbenders had a very low population as compared to FN & Earth Kingdom, but they still only had a minority as benders (the southern raiders probably didn't help at all with this statistic)
Avatar more or less explained that much of their technological weapons (war balloons, tanks, & the drill) come from that inventor guy, but there was much they could, and should have explored
they're clearly the first to work with metals because of their firebending. they can weld, smith, and even make steam-power whenever they wanted
unlike the airbenders, they're not so bound to religion that they abandon progress. unlike the earthbenders, they've the innovation through technology rather than bending. and unlike the waterbenders, they've the environment with which they can actually advance their technology
well technically the current firelord in LOK is a nonbender.
That's weird as fuck because they're crazy spiritual. In fact a lot of people we saw in the Northern Water Tribe made no sense like how so many of the most spiritual characters there had no bending whatsoever. Now looking at it the first series itself was somewhat poorly written even if we loved it. Korra doesn't exist.
Well Korra doesn't exist, but if it did her son Iroh is great. Even if it skips a generation or two it doesn't change the fact that somehow that bloodline produces the most powerful fire benders. It would have been nice if they explored how their ancestors even became and established their dynasty.
Please leave.
I assume it's like how a water bender is more powerful in a full moon. The fire benders harvest the heat of the comet coming into orbit to maximize their bending ability.
There's nothing British about the FN besides them having an apparent Industrial Revolution. And that also goes for the Meiji Japanese.
The Earth Queen wasn't Book 3's lead antagonist.
I think he's referring to the Fire Nation colonies, like how the Brits established colonies all over the world,
That also goes for the Japanese. As I'm sure the Koreans and Chinese would say.
I don't think that's the case. In the S1 finale you see plenty of waterbenders, they probably have as many benders as the much larger FN force. The Southern Tribe has so few because they all got killed captured.
It's funny they don't have some type advantage for balance. Like Water > Fire > Air > Earth
Actually
Fire Nation: Redguard niggers
Earth Kingdom: Sandniggers
Water Tribe: Swamp niggers
Air Nomads: Air sucking niggers
Yeah but the Japs based their own colonialism heavily on the European and specifically British models.
Even so, it doesn't make the FN's antics modeled from Britain's in particular. The FN has elements pulled from empires, conquerors, and despots across the eras that they're really more of a representation of recurring human societal vices.
Anyone remember when Bryke tried to bring a parallel between Zuko and Korra by calling an episode of Book 4 "Korra Alone"?
I don't even want to think about it. Even after all this time, I still don't understand what the hell they were thinking with Korra.
I remember a talk where Bryke brought up how Aang shot off like a rocket after Appa was kidnapped to defend Korra for her antics in Book Two.
Firebending may have lent itself to industrial development, and they lived in a very volcanic area, might have had lots of mineral resources to start them off. Their motivation was simple enough on the surface; they industrialised and need resources.
The Water Tribes were probably relatively small; only so many people you can feed in polar regions.
i know, but the argument was that smaller populations = more benders per capita
...
When was that?

Let him keep going, he keeps the thread alive with rage.
It was in an interview a couple years ago. They were on the backlash Korra got for her antics from Book One to Book Two and Bryan asked that if Aang being a "brat" over Appa getting was okay.
Why didn't they invent a fucking sniper rifle and take Aang out from a mile away? How fucking hard would it have been? They had stuff way beyond regular guns.
Why didn't they hire an Earth Bender to bend a pebble as fast as fucking possible from a mile away and take him down?
It all boils down to the war rules or whatever they had. If they didn't have to play nice they probably could have done it.
I still want it explained why non-benders weren't all packing heat.
Aang was rightfully pissed that the only thing he has left of his culture and his only companion from back then was fucking taken from him isn't the same from Korra being an entitled bitch because "Muh Southern Water Tribe!"
Despite she never grew up with other people in the water tribe and was sheltered so why and how she gained a sense of nationalism for the South, I have no idea.
I'm a Air Force brat, but I was born in Maine. I've spent a grand total of 5 years of my life there (4-ish as a kid and the rest from various visits throughout the years) but still have a strong sense of pride about it, even though I know nothing of it. Bet you anything Korra is the same way (ignorant of actual S. Water Tribe shit but still loves it to death). It's a thing. Another friend of mine is like that with Texas, but she visits a lot more often.
Yes but Korra's self-centered and sheltered since she was a toddler. You at least got to live in Maine for a while and have fondness to it, Korra never did that.
I lived in Maine from 0 to 4, which is even smaller than the time-frame that Korra lived there. When she presented her prowess she was probably 5 or 6. There's got to be a canonical age somewhere. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier.
She was young enough to not remember being kidnapped by terrorists.
Just looked it up. She was 4, which basically puts her smack-dab where I was. Plus being secreted away and sheltered would give her a strong longing for home.
Yeah that's some bullshit. My two oldest memories from when I was in Maine are both traumatic (a vivid nightmare and the room I woke up in from said nightmare), so there's where it kinda falls apart. Though I doubt she was withheld information about her childhood home while she was being trained.
...
If Bryke weren't such inept writers, this would have been an awesome plot point. Her straight-up not giving a shit about the Southern Water Tribe, and when she tries to interfere, being told that she's got no business and that she's not REALLY from there and that she doesn't REALLY understand.
There could have been a subplot about her attempting to get back in touch with her culture. But no, no way.
who is doing that Bryke?
...
It's one idiot shitposting and one even bigger retard who keeps responding to him, faggot.
