Weaver's work is cute, it's charming, there's just something appealing about his shitty style. As for his writing ability, it's probably on par with a really decent newspaper comic, simple yet entertaining. I wouldn't say his work is impressive, just likeable, which is what makes it more impressive than a lot of garbage on the internet.
It's not outrageous to say Weaver took the easy route as an artist, he piggy backs on fad fandoms with his simple art, but he does produce a lot, which is more impressive than producing nothing, which is what most anons are capable or willing to produce.

As I've said in other threads, it doesn't matter if you could produce better work, if you're not willing to do so you're just as worthless as anyone incapable of doing so. And in this case you'd have to be willing to cater to the fandom autists he's catering to by creating fad fandom porn parody shipping trash. There's a demand for that sort of work and weaver is one of the artists willing to meet that demand, and where that demand exists there's also a willingness to pay; however from what I know of weaver's case, which isn't a lot at all, I think it's less cynical and more just anons wanting to financially support a person they like.

The comics you've posted are at bit petty and condescending. I prefer the second one; though I don't really browse any of those communities, at least not anymore, so I don't really know how baseless and exaggerated it is.

I think it's fun to watch, really cute movie with a well executed but child friendly buddy cop thing going on. Also, visually amazing. The parts about tolerance are okay, but yeah, it can't be too complicated for kids.

I think my favorite or items part of the film was that the simple prejudice lesson for kids… was possibly the most grown up and nuanced presentations we've had in years.

I get that more often in video games when rare genera come out. With solid execution and ok setting I often find myself thinking 'this should be mediocre and forgettable but I haven't had a side scrolling beat em up in a decade'
