It’s apparent that the US is an empire and by extension Europe without the traditional benefits of an empire such as tax revenue from imperial territory. It’s an unsustainable imperial model for the US to be paying for the maintenance of its empire at a net loss. The telltale sign of an empire is the mass importations of goods and materials. Very few goods are made domestically. If you were to compare the modern US empire to the ancient Roman Empire; D.C. would be Rome, continental US Italy and Europe would be Greece as the Eastern half of the Roman Empire.
One thing is true of empires — the chickens come home to roost. It’s gradual process that takes centuries and the racial blood of the interior empire is slowly diluted generation by generation. Racial dilution trickles in by soldiers taking foreign wives, interbreeding with slaves and rich foreign merchants that buy or bribe citizenship settling within the interior. No one will see the racial dilution as it happens. It’s far too gradual of a process. Racial dilution is the kiss of death for an empire. Even nobility isn’t immune from dilution the racial stock of the empire certainly won’t be.
Because the racial dilution process is so gradual it won’t become an apparent problem until it’s too late. Now, imagine if mass immigration never happened in the US and Europe but because we’re an empire racial dilution would find ways to creep in. There is simply far too many personal connections within an empire to block it completely.
Here’s how mass immigration could be a good thing. It could provoke a reaction that leads to a will to maintain racial purity. An empire leads to certain death of the racial stock of the empire. But unsolicited mass immigration greatly accelerates this process so much so that it happens before your eyes and the eyes of others. This sudden influx of mass immigration could be the event that saves us from an otherwise certain death.
I’ve been thinking about this so don’t take my conclusion as true. It could be, though and it’s something to think about.

I think you're wrong about the Empire thing though. The US is somewhat transitioning for sure, but Empires are typically Dictatorships, not Republics. Remember, even Rome expanded quite far and wide before it technically became an Empire.
Second, the US does "produce" things – financial services. It's becoming a proto-typical merchant empire like the Dutch or Athens.
