Young Deathstroke

Been reading some current Deathstroke and I'm not sure how to feel about Slade being young.

I always thought him being a jaded old man was part of what made him cool.

What do you guys think?

Btw, I'm not criticizing the run itself.
It's pretty good and I'm having fun reading it.

I just don't know if changing the character was a smart move.

He's got DAT YOUNG DICK!

No more viagra for him

Also, checked

NICE

Now the next time he fucks a teenager it'll be only kinda fucked up.

I'm kind of disappointed that DC didn't make a nu52 version of the Judas Contract.
The original was a mess, but had some pretty good ideas.

What's Terra doing now anyways?

And you'd expect it to be better under DC's current writers and editors?

Marv Wolfman has more talent in the tip of his little finger than anyone who would rewrite it has in their entire bodies.

oh come on, guy.
it's not all bad

Wait, hold up.

Slade was a Blonde. This Nigga is a Brunette.

It's not like it's their job or anything…

What, you expect anyone these days to do RESEARCH?
Writers have far too much cocaine to do to bother with things like Google.

You gotta be kidding me. I mean, Holy Hannah I enjoy researching shit Hell, I even buy those little source books from the DC RPG games from the 90's just to make sure my info is correct.

For Fanfic Purposes. Also Magic in DC source book was literally Vertigo shit. The JSA Sourcebook was pretty fucking awesome though.

You telling me these little cocksuckers can't even research basic information or hell, get a free book from their company for a character their writing?

This has been done before, I didn't care for it then either.

They're trying to make him look like the Arrow version.

haven't watched that show.
he cool in it?

I don't watch it either. Supposedly he's really good but that's coming from other people that actually like the low budget crappy CW shows. So take it with a grain of salt.

Apparently this is him (without an eye patch) from the show, so yeah, probably meant to look like him somewhat. Which, despite being against this it makes sense. Ever since original Alfred was changed to look more like Alfred in the serials, DC has made sweeping changes to bring things in line with the shows and movies. They can even handwave it as some change due to the last dozen reboots, or go full Kojima and say his hair was bleached by the African sun… anything's possible.

When did they do it last? Now I'm curious how long it lasted.

...

Big two are just a mess of continuity fuck ups that refuses to do anything new for too long before it becomes the norm.

I stopped reading for quite a while but are we still talking about New52 Deathstroke?
The one who is the father of Grant Wilson (Blonde) and Jericho(Also Blonde)?

Regardless I hate the idea of him being young.
For what purpose should Deathstroke be young?
It detracts from his unique characteristics.
He even has his eye back.
Looking at the first image I was wondering if that was Batman or Superman.
I can only see it as a ploy to write the character doing young people things to try and better appeal to young people.
Do feel like checking it out though and finding out if it is validated in any way.

...

It was right after Deathstroke: The Hunted in the original Marv Wolfman run.

Okay, it's not right after.

But to elaborate he went from Big Boss to Solid Snake.

He was checking his balls.

One thing you will notice when you get a lot older is that your balls hang way lower than they did when you were a kid. You don't really notice the change as it's happening, but one morning you will wake up to take a piss and while you are sitting there shaking your shit it will dawn on you.

Apparently.

Yes. This is the same guy. The one with Rose Wilson who is now the daughter of Adaline.

I do wonder what the motivation to make him young is. It's not he will just die if they don't de-age him from time to time. I always thought part of the appeal was that he was an old guy.

Well, shit. I'm not looking forward to that.

Yeah have fun going to take a crap in the middle of winter half asleep and ending up dunking them in the water because you pulled your underwear down too far and they fell in.

Surprisingly that comic even predates MGS.

Just so you guys know Deathstroke was reboot several times since The New 52, because every new writer wanted to their own take on the character.

So in the first series for the first 8 issues you had Kyle Higgins writing Deathstroke as this old Ronin-like assassin who placed all his worth and honor on his abilities as an assassin. So when he started to be payed less and only score "low" jobs he felt that people were starting to disrespect him and that he might be losing his edge. Because of this he started to take the most crazy, dangerous and high-profile works he could. One of the plot elements is that his son, Grant Wilson (Ravager), came back from dead to take revenge on him.

Then from issues 10-14 Rob Liefeld came in and just said fuuuck that. Deathstroke was a guy who felt sorrow for his wife death and was suicidal because his love was taken from him. One of the plot elements this time was that his other son, Joseph Wilson (Jericho), showed up along with his dead mom to take revenge on him. No signs of Ravager, despite that being exactly the same plot of the first 8 issues. It was essentially a quasi-reboot.

Then from issues 15-19 writer Justin Jordan assumed the title. Since Jordan was also writing Team 7, a comic that deal with a counter-terrorist/anti-meta team comprised of Deathstroke, Black Canary (and her husband Drake Lance), Amanda Waller and several Wildstorm characters before they became who they currently were, he tried to align both comics together while trying to correct and merged both Higgins and Liefeld runs, reintroducing Higgins' Ravager, Liefeld's Jericho & Adeline and Scot Lobdell's Rose Wilson (Ravager II) from the Superboy, Teen Titans and The Ravagers clusterfuck. Whole thing was a shitshow, specially because the comic in the final issues literally cross-over between Team 7 and The Ravagers comics, with Team 7 being mediocre as fuck and The Ravagers being downright awful.

Man, do you remember when a writer's run on a book would last for several years? Does anyone stay on a book very long these days?

Just read 5 issues.
Issue 1 ends with him being turned young.
The further changes to Jericho piss me off more where he is now a sanctimonious asshole despite being a villain in the last volume.
The brain reading signal thing is dumb.
Starts great and just sort of devolves into crap comic territory for me.
Slade is written with bad dialog that is supposed to be justified by him being young.
It is explained that he can walk around with his face and nobody will know it is him and then immediately is in his fucking suit talking to Quinn and regaling me with information from when he was in Suicide Squad which was further than what I read of Suicide Squad.
One retarded thing is that he is off his game because he has two eyes now and multiple times complains about it while fighting and has the same basic lines complaining about how easier it would be if only he had one eye.
There are a few annoying grammatical mistakes.
Turning Slades dead dad who sold him to a mobster into a dumb comicbook looking villain and main antagonist is fucking stupid.
The plot just starts eating its own ass and after Harley tricks Batman and Slade into fighting she ends said fight via several nicely wrapped explosive presents.
Then both of them get away from Batman on a pink moped.
This kind of shit is why I stopped reading them.

Calling it now, he's going to blind the same eye.

Then the comic was cancelled and a new one was launched with Tony Daniel as writer and artist, although he eventually left Kirkman to draw.

This run is the run in OP's pic and Daniel in it ignores the entire clusterfuck that happened before. For example he revamped completely Deathstroke's father, that appeared in Higgins' run, and Joseph (Jericho) and Rose (Ravager II), basically making the comic a full-on reboot this time. He also made Deathstroke younger and set the character up with an organization of immortal spies or some shit. Daniel stayed in the book for the first 14 issues pitting Deathstroke against all kinds of DC related characters, then the writer James Bonny assumed the book keeping in tradition while delivering a somewhat better writing. Bonny had helped the book as a co-writer before it because Daniel's more of an artist than a writer.

That because the first series is being out right ignored and mostly retconned by the new addtions. Pretty much how Liefeld ignored and changed everything from Higgins run, but in a more extreme way. Liefeld mostly changed Deathstroke behavior and view of things, Daniel (and Bonny) completely rewrote the characters that appeared in former series.

And guess what, my friend? The book, with Rebirth, has been cancelled in a few weeks will be relaunched under MOTHERFUCKING CHRISTOPHER PRIEST, WHO AGAIN WILL REBOOT THE BOOK COMPLETELY REWRITING DEATHSTROKE AS AN OLD MAN AND CHANGING COMPLETELY ROSE WILSON. Christopher Priest promised a take much more closer to Marv Wolfman.

Thankfully, DC's sucking Priest's black cock and Priest said that he'll write the book for ages.

as someone who watches arrow he's the best villain in the entire show so far.

Why are American toilets filled practically to the brim? Things like swirlies are alien concepts down under.

Also, I wonder how long til a version of Slade is basically Big Boss.

would that mean nightwing would become solid snake? and maybe have grant wilson become liquid snake?

Here's Christopher Priest promises on his future on the new Deathstroke comic:

- Priest is writing Deathstroke as a villain, not as an anti-hero. So think Golgo 13, not Wolverine.
- Priest is giving Deathstroke a supporting cast again. Wintergreen returns in Deathstroke #1 after the Rebirth issue with others cast members to follow.
- Priest looks to bring Deathstroke's character more in line with the "evil version of Batman" approach used in the Marv Wolfman and George Perez days. Less mysticism and more real world action and intrigue.
- Priest is embracing Slade's sociopathic nature and the difficulty it brings to his personal relationships with his children. As the series progresses both Rose (issue #3) and Joseph (later in the series) are mentioned specifically as appearing. Even Slade's long-time right-hand-man, Wintergreen, starts to question Slade's actions at some point.
- Priest will explore the ideas of heroism vs. villainy as well as super-heroism vs. vigilante justice. He promises fights with Batman (issue #5) and Superman (issue 8).
- Priest also looks at Slade's relationship with all of the blood-money he has earned over the years as the world's greatest assassin and how he uses them to star out of hidden and out of jail.
- Priest asked DC's editors to not use Deathstroke in other books for mere fights, if he has to appear in some other story the person he's contracted to take out has to die. This is so Deathstroke doesn't dilute as a character.

Seems like a solid plan. I mean, damn, how often these days does a writer's long term plans for a character get so openly known? Is Priest a pretty good writer, if I've read his stuff I probably didn't pay attention to his name? If so, I might actually check the book out when it launches (slowly starting to go back to the comic shop from time to time).

that sounds really great user. I think I'll check this out when it's released.

i only know he did a black panther run that is highly recommended.

(You)
PRIEST about the comic structure and his plans.

PRIEST on Deathstroke new streamlined continuity:

PRIEST on the first arc where both Rose Wilson and the Batman & Bat-Clan will appear.

In the first arc someone will put a hit on Rose and without alternatives Deathstroke will place Rose on Nightwing and Batman's protection, kidnapping Damian as a guarantee that they will look out for his daughter while he himself hunt the people that placed the hit on her. This is PRIEST attemtp to bring back Deathstroke connection with Robin/Nighrwing, something that DC did away with The New 52.

I CAN FEEL MAH DICK!

I hope this book lives up to that promise, I hate the way most modern books are written for trades and have almost nothing happen issue to issue (Civil War II for example is a whole lot of NOTHING that could have probably been better done in a non-event).

Priest fucking hates Damian Wayne. It's kinda funny.

The new costume just isn't doing it for me.

He needs the buccaneer boots and everything.

How many people get to keep their pirate boots these days? I loved those things as a kid, but everyone got redesigned without them.

Chrstopher Priest is so hyped about the book he did whole fucking manifesto about the new in his site:

lamerciepark.com/comics/deathstroke/intro/

I was thinking the same but the way it's drawn on the cover here makes it look good.

Preview of the book.

I personally like it when gun-toting mercenary characters have outfits that support it. Like armor in certain areas, pouches, etc. Deathstroke's previous design with the ballistic mask, armored shoulder and chest was good enough for me. This new one just feels so typical.

Postin best Deathstroke design

Ah, family outings.

it's funny the costume in that picture looks great but in the game it always felt a bit bulky. Like there was too much stuff on Deathstroke.

I always felt Deathstroke would be the type that changes his outfit's gear depending on the mission he's heading into. Like one against a meta-human may require him to wear a bit more armor (depending who it is).

That's all I want. I want a /k/-tier comic for either of them.

that sounds awesome. I personally want to find a comic dealing with a team of special forces types fighting kaiju or something.

The new uniform is growing on me.

Also, Deathstroke with the sombrero/scarf combo is just pure fucking badassery. How can something so gay, like a scarf, look so badass on such a character?

You know what I wanted to see of Red Hood? I wanted to see him hold up to how he viewed crime in 'Under the Red Hood'

'You can't stop crime. I'm controlling it'

Seriously I would want to read a comic about him rising up in the criminal underworld. Not just in gotham but going deep into the black market of it all and setting himself up as this drug/weapons kingpin who knew how to get shit done. How would he control crime? By getting rid of all the competition.

Going from country to country, getting involved in their criminal trade then bringing them down from the inside. Hijacking drug shipments, turning gangs against eachother, kidnappings. He's really doing all the stuff Batman WON'T do but actually means it.

Sure we're kind of getting that in the new Rebirth Red Hood but I wish Jason was a little more loose.

I'm surprised they haven't done this before in the comics. He does look good with the scarf.

that sounds like Red Hood's version of batmen of all nations. maybe i'm reading too much into it but that sounds cool still

Priest agree with you guys.

also I didn't know they were doing this with Rebirth Red Hood. I might check this out.

that sounds beautiful user.

It's not entirely what they're doing but I'll admit this. I enjoy Red Hood or Deathstroke stories when they DON'T get mystical or scifi shit involved. That crap was what ruined Red Hood and the Outlaws for me (along with a list of other things)

I feel like Jason as a character should have a few solo issues to himself. None of this team shit. They've yet to find a writer who can do this because alot of Jason's issues or standalone shit fell apart.

The only semi-good one I read recently was the Arkham Genesis comic and that was for the damn game universe.

Priest says that he has complete control of the book. That initially DC tried to stop from certain things, but then he'd throw his weight around and get his way.

This is good. No editor will fuck his shit up.

He'd look better with a robot arm and a piece of metal sticking out of his head too.

Judd Winick was the best writer Red Hood had. He knew that the best place to take the character was as a infiltrator.

Will Batman be fucking Rose Wilson?

Gaze into the face of Diddy-O and you will know true despair. This man is in charge, and he will remind you of that fact at every opportunity.

What did he write? Maybe I'll pick his run up since I recently enjoyed his Catwoman.

Geoff Johns is rulling now, though. And i feel that DC is trying to bring the "GREATS" back by any means necessary.

Take for example them bowing down for Greg Rucka in Wonder Woman and having John Ostrander back for whatever he wants, now Christopher Priest on Deathstroke and i heard they've been begging Garth Ennis to do more than just Section 8 minis.

Pretty much all the good comics starring Red Hood were writen by Winick.

Johns has always been Didio's second in command.

Well of course. They know as well as anyone that the talent pool is drying up.

I'm looking forward to the PLEASE COME BACK age of comic books.

...

...

...

You can always count on the edge when the comes to DC.

who doesn't?

If it means we fucking finally get some good comics, I welcome it.

If Rebirth is any indication, that is what it means.

Hypercrisis has revealed it to me. Notice the blue/white color scheme on everything, and then take a look at this image.

Heroes are coming back, user.

So which names has DC amassed in this glorious PLEASE COME BACK age?

Frank Miller
Garth Ennis
Christopher Priest
Greg Rucka
John Ostrander

Does Dan Jurgens count as good? DC also has Neal Adams back to drawing (and writing) for them.

It's good to see that some people still genuinely like working on comics.

They have Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner working together on putting lightning in a bottle again

Jim Lee is doing the art for Suicide Squad

Keith Giffen is writing Blue Beetle

Yeah, but Alfred had been around for maybe a couple of months when the serials came out and they decided to change his appearance.

Deathstroke has looked the way he has for decades. And they're changing it why? Because of the shit show? Which nobody's going to even remember once it's over.

Nigger of course they do.

People can talk shit as much as they want, but at the end of the day, these are still fucking COMIC BOOKS.

Comics are fucking incredible.

Those guys, like Dan Jurgens, never left DC, though.

Speaking of Palmiotti and Conner, I wish Paul Dini would come back. That would be neat.

I think Marv Wolfman might actually be doing stuff for them. He's certainly writing the Suicide Squad novelisation

Honestly, i just think that was Daniel being retarded, He was the one that gave the idea of Joker removing his face at the start of the Nu52.

Not to mention his definitive run was written in the 80s/90s by his actual creator, who's still alive.

It's not like Batman or Superman where they're 75+ year old characters.

I wish they'd let Bruce Timm out of his cage. I can picture Didio keeping him somewhere miles underground in pitch darkness in some kind of holding cell, barely feeding him. Didio would occasionally torment him by giving him issues of nu52 comics and telling him how much power Geoff Johns is trusted with.

I'll bet they tried that with Alan Moore too, but were unable to hold him.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- you're right.

Marv Wolfman's writing a mini series about Raven where he'll pretty much reboot the character for the new Teen Titans book.

Problem with Timm is that he's often very busy and has little time to actually draw books. Harley and Ivy, for example, took him absolutely years to finish because he was busy working on TNBA, Batman Beyond, Justice League, etc.

I'm really not sure what to call this considering Raven was rebooted HARD by the Teen Titans cartoon since it was so ludicrously popular.

We'll see which version of her they end up going with: classic raven or waifu raven.

Either one would be leagues better than nu52 raven.

I meant for the animated stuff. He did Gods and Monsters recently but nothing else that was too major.

He stepped down from running the DTVs. He only does the ones he really wants to do.

As for him doing series, blame intercompany politics. Fucking Cartoon Network sabotaged JLU, Green Lantern and pretty much any DC action cartoon. Which is why we've got 11 minute TTGO and now JLGO

They've already shown us. They mixed it up and did something terrible… they gave us animu Raven.

nah.
she looks okay.

That looks much better, especially compared to nu52 Raven.

It's not perfect but it's better than what they were giving us.

If you guys start waifuing Wolfman Raven 2.0 i'll get fucking mad.

hold on.
drawing lewds right now.

Godspeed user.

You forgot

This Brazilian artist ALISSON BORGES is pretty good.

at least it's not Injustice Raven

Issue 2 cover.

This is less than ideal.

Is done by some other artist and i think is a variant.

I just hope that's not the official costume design.

it's not

It's not.

It's not

I'm starting to think that might not be the official design.

DC went full anime. I don't like it.

Oh man, no way.

personally i'm okay with the anime look however i can't stand damien wayne being in the teen titans.

Damn it, Beast Boy… don't give me that look unless you want to be bent over.

They totally shopped those clothes on him too.

It's in his design.

Yeah, I still 100% think it was shopped.

Does anyone know when Deathstroke Rebirth is going to be released?

August 10th
His actual run then starts August 24th

thanks user I'll be looking forward to it.

why is he dressed like that for his off time? seems like he's rich or something?

he's a show-off. always has been.

… I just wanted to read a thread, and then I saw that fucking image and it BLEW MY FUCKING MIND. I mean, all this stuff was created bit by bit by tons of people, so logically, none of these connections are "intentional". But they work so well, you have to wonder how these specific ideas all ended up being chosen to stay after decades of unintended creative selection.

VAST IMPROVEMENT. And animu Raven is hot as fuck almost as hot as animu Beast Boy
