And all the kids' TV shows had decided that just having every ethnicity they could think of shoved into the cast STILL wasn't diverse enough, and were trying to shoehorn a wheelchair character into every show, no matter how implausible. It was the exact same kind of insanity we're seeing today, just more… 90's flavoured.

Apparently, there were "Educational Consultants" and child psychologists who outranked the writers and insisted that they follow certain rules when telling stories: one of which was, "the complainer is always wrong". They were literally forced to encourage groupthink, having one character act out and disagree with the group, and be mocked and labelled "stupid" for it.

The writers didn't agree with this, and as such rebelled by making it so that anyone who was paying attention would notice that the complainers, while mocked, ignored and derided by the group, were ALWAYS RIGHT and if these stupid kids had just listened to them, they would have avoided the episode's central problem entirely.

Blackanon here, I've taken time to study mindfulness meditation more seriously and I've only just recently noticed that when I listen to piano music, I genuinely struggle taking in the texture and the melody at the same time. I have to push myself to be able to take it all in and even then, my mind usually reacts and puts all of the attention on the most poignant note (typically the highest, most recent note in the melody). So all the time I've spent listening to classical music has almost been a waste.

Since we're on the topic of Chopin, I've only recently begun to notice the low notes in the C sharp minor waltz. Embed related, I've listened to this particular performance for about four years now but now I'm hearing new details I never knew existed. Being conscious of the low notes whilst the melody plays is challenging for me. I did listen to Bach's fugues but I had no idea that it was possible for a human being to actually take in all of those melodic lines simultaneously. I could only focus on one line and allow the others to become background noise.

It's not just music here. Whenever I try to watch a TV show, I can't take in all of the details at once. The dialogue, the plot's direction, the backgrounds and visual cues, etc. I typically have to rewatch an episode to extract everything. Anime is horrible for me because I have to read the subtitles and be conscious of the fact that a particular character is saying it, that it's expressive of that character as opposed to a factual report from a textbook that can just be absorbed as it is so I have to be conscious of character motivations too, I have to be conscious of the voice of the characters as they speak and all the other visual cues that may be ongoing with regards to body language, facial expression, etc.

Actively trying to expand my consciousness has illuminated to me just how small it really is. It's amazing to me that there are some people who literally just listen to music or watch anime and effortlessly absorb everything whilst I must continuously push myself to overcome whatever internal blocks I'm facing and "let go". Are there people who can type, think about what they're typing and be aware of their music at the same time as well? I'm trying this.

I think the core of my issue is definitely a kind of blind consumerism. I find myself repeatedly looking towards my own internal feelings for some kind of guidance or support. I look to my feelings to "give" me instruction. I place myself in a position of powerless with respect to them to the point where I lose all consciousness of self and I am just blindly obeying my impulses akin to an automata. I typically try to focus on something only for my attention to be hijacked by how I feel about it. In some cases, it might even be how I feel about the mental strain induced by focusing on it. I remember in the documentary on the Chinese men that were doing work in Africa, people commented on how the Blacks seemed like automata or machines. They seemed directionless and dead. Perhaps that's all it is, they were awaiting instruction either from an external (e.g. people) or internal (e.g. hunger, lust) source. I think this may be what Gurdjieff was talking about when he said that some people aren't really human at all. How attentive are you to where you put your attention?

The question on my mind these days is: If I work hard on expanding my consciousness further, could this lead to literally becoming more intelligent? Or is there some kind of limit to this work?
